if you'll give up buying coffee from Starbucks each day?
if you'll give up eating out every single day?
if you start bringing lunch to school?
if you start unplugging you appliances at home?
Just some things to think about.

I'm homeschooled, we don't have money for expensive habits like coffee..or luxuries like restauraunts...and we don't have alot of gadgets and appliances in the first place 'cause we're somewhat old fashioned (it's cheaper that way)...
So, there's not much lifestyle we can really modify...which is rather frustrating, considering the times, heh. Not that I'm gonna complain...

Not having a high opinion of the mainstream (media) and not really paying much attention to them, helps alot.

That's a good point. We really have to recognize what we really need and what the media tells us we need. There is a BIG difference between the two.

I admire those who are sticking to the lifestyle they know and not being changed by what they see other people are doing. So I admire you for staying on the bit "old-fashion" side. It's hard to resist the temptation of having all that media dictates we should have.

I don't buy coffee from Starbucks. I do however occasionally buy coffee drinks from Sheetz but it's not that often. However, one of the biggest things that I really need to work on to cut down on my spending is eating out or ordering in. I think ordering food while we're in our apartment is a hard habit to break. I really want to change how often I spend money on certain things and obviously the first task that I want to work on is how often we order in or buy food out.
Before, ordering food in wasn't something that we did often. However, this year it seems we're relying on that more and I know the food we can order is sometimes so much better than what we can get here in the apartment or what we can eat while at the school cafe, sometimes it's better to save money than to worry about eating out and eating this food that we really do not need to have.

Sometimes, if we get comfortable about something, it becomes a habit. Then it is hard to kick off your system. But then, I know that we would be able to triumph over these things! LOL

modestly, i will still be able to save this year. it will be coming from cutting expenses on entertainment and recreational activities. one movie in a month will save me $10. walking from house to the nearest terminal will save me $12. i think i will start unplugging the appliances so that my power bill will be reduced. now i am more conscious on what and where i spend my money. i think this is a good sign that i will be able to save modest amount this year.

I guess because of the recession, most of us are now more concious of where our money goes. We try to save more and spend less.

I don't buy coffee from starbucks, shoot I don't really even like coffee.
I don't ear out daily, maybe1-2x a month if that. I usually bring lunch to work if I work a long enough shift.
I do unplug things at home especially hubby's coffee pot, drives me nuts that he leaves it plugged in & there's no need for it.

Great job. Seems like you have it all covered. Let's continue being thrifty. It would payoff in the end. :)

Don't forget you can save money if you quit smoking. Not just the price of the smokes, but a lot of companies are starting to offer discounts on health insurance if you aren't a smoker. Another thing to cut that adds up are the snacks and sodas at work, or when you fill up the car.

Very informative. I didn't know that insurance companies offer you discounts if you're not a smoker. I'm going to ask my insurance agent about this. Thanks.

I do, i went onto the moneysavingforum and theres a section there that will calculate for you how much you will save in a year by giving up a certain thing, I could have saved over £200 on milkshakes, so I stopped gettin 'em.

That's a big amount of money to save. Well, congratulations on stopping to buy commercially made milkshakes. Maybe you could make it on your own or just buy once in a while to satisfy your craving.

I never buy coffee from Starbucks and I don't eat out daily. I always take leftovers to work for lunch and I do unplug things at home so I guess that I would not save much more than I do now. However, I have to figure out a way to cut some of the utility expense as our electric bill is over $400 this month and there is no way that I can afford that. It is insane that it costs that much!

That's too much to pay for electric bills. You really have to look for ways to trim it down. Have you ask the company if there is something wrong with the meter reading your electric consumption?
