As some of you know, I lost my job in September. I haven't worked since. I filed for unemployment and in the first time since I have worked and all, I was denied my benefits. I put in a appeal to see if I could appeal the decision, I put in my appeal, with supporting evidence, and again they said I wasn't eligible to get it. I was soo hurt and upset about it. Here I served my country, worked two jobs for the majority of 2008, and cannot get nothing from these people. This is sad. I am about as low in spirit as can be.

I'm so so sorry to hear this and I know this is going to sound trite but it really is darkest before the dawn and this really is the time to push forward.
I never tell this story much but it really is true. Ten years ago when I was just starting my own book business, I was in the worst possible financial situation. I I had $250 in the bank and about $400 in checks written against that money. I also did not have the money to repair my car.
In the middle of all this mess I got a phone call ( on a phone that was only going to stay on a few more days) There was a very nice estate library here on the Main Line that I had asked about and they were ready to sell the books. I found my self making an appointment on the phone to meet with them.
When I put that phone down, I thought I should probably pick it up again and cancel but I didn't. I decided to take the money out of the bank if need be and let the checks all bounce since banks have a way of bouncing the whole lot of them anyway. I also figured I wouldn't get far becasue every book seller with deep pockets in the area would be there but at least, I could have one day with my mind occupied by something beyond my troubles.
When I went to the house, there were no other booksellers and one of the heirs told me to look around and come talk to them in the kitchen over coffee when I was done. I almost fainted when I saw what was in that library. It was the best haul I've ever seen even to this day and I decided that I would go into that kitchen and try for some sort of consignment.
When I went in to talk to the people, I told them that the books were valuable enough to consider a consignment. They told me that they had not considered selling. They just wanted to clean out the library as quickly as possible as they had a private sale on the estate and the new buyer wanted to move in their own books and made it a condition of the sale to clear away all the books.
Next, I had to face the problem of not having a car. I told them my car was in for inspection (not true. I couldn't afford to even run it much less inspect it) and I would have to get a friend to come over and help me.(No idea who that might have been since I already owed money to everybody I knew) They actually lent me the estate caretaker's truck to load up and take the books.
I'm still afraid to tell anybody, how much I made on the sale of those books but I took two of them to an auction house in Philly the very next day and used the money to clear every bill I had.
I don't know if I would have the moxey to do today what I did then but I really believe that the outcome was determined by the fact that I pressed on when every realistic hope was gone. SO DON"T GIVE UP!

Sounds like you are going through a very painful ordeal. I know how you feel as I am suffering now too. That is why I can tell you that this is the time when we need to lean on the Lord and trust him to bring us through. He knows what we need, even before we ask him. He will strengthen you to go through this. All you need to do is have faith. God bless you and keep you.

I'm sorry they told you that you can't apply again. There has to be some private local agencies to help you.Thease are hard times and it seem like they would extend your benefits. My dad girlfriend went through a program and they paid her rent up to six months until she got on her feet.It was called the planning council.I dont know if you have one where you live. They also can refer you to different agencies that might can assist with fundings for bills etc.

Other than the fact that I'm still on the planet, not much else has happened for me. There are times, and today is one of them and I feel real low. I put in for TANF and the lady told me to put in for unemployment again. When I did, they said they couldn't allow me to put it in again and it discouraged me. I am like, forget this. I cannot say how it is. Right now, stuff is still the same, but I pray it gets better soon. I apologize but this is one of my down days.

I know how you feel. I spent five years fighting both my company's insurance company AND the government for disability. The government turned me down; I appealed and they turned me down again. Then my dad gave me the name of someone he knew and told me to use her. I got a letter saying my case was closed and don't bother them again. You pay money into insurance and pension (and income tax) and then when you need it they won't give it to you. It is so mean. We are just numbers and the people in charge don't give a darn about people.
Cheer up. When one door closes, another opens. Keep aware and good luck!

I am not American. I am in Canada and we have no new government. In fact it's a mess right now. But perhaps the new American government will have a great effect on the Canadian one.
Those five years of struggling happened 12-5 years ago. I received a lump sum settlement from the insurance company in 2001 but it wasn't much, didn't last very long and probably didn't even cover my legal expenses if I worked it out.

I didn't know that was going on with you for so long. Now that makes me think on that saying on how you thought you had it bad, then you saw someone else and they had it worse. That is very mean, and it lets me know that something is seriously wrong with a country that would shortchange it's own workers. That bother's me a great deal.

Excuse me again Pat, Keep your head up too. Perhaps this new government can turn things around. I am not expecting no overnight things here, but with time. Nothing but the best.

Been there before and know where you're coming from. From my understanding they side with the employer 99% of the time. The employee is considered to be a liar. It's not right, unfair and prejudiced against the employee. You might try the labor board if you think it fits their criteria. Certainly doesn't hurt to ask.

I learned never to depend on the system but to be self-reliant. I am not even counting on keeping my job in this economy. My daughter lost her job when the business she worked for went under just before Thanksgiving. Chin up and be strong! You will make it through, remember you are not alone.

We do not have unemployment benefits in our country. The government do not want it to be abused. It encourages everyone to be actively employed to help the economy. As such, the citizens try very best to make ends meet, even when there are those without a job. But there are other funds these people can tap on if they try to claim for other types of relief such as household items and school children, medical etc. I hope that you will find another job soon. I guess it's different. We can't expect our government to help is we're unemployed. We need to solve the problem on our own.

I'm so sorry. This must be a very difficult time for you. I lost my job last August and have not worked since either. It is very hard! I don't understand our government at all. Hopefully, our new president will make a difference. Well, at least myLot won't deny your pennies. Hang in there. Things can only get better.

I am sorry to hear of your ordeal. Are you planning on filing another appeal? I am glad that you have a place like MYLot to make some cash. I know it is not much but every cent helps. I know of a few forums where you could find jobs online in the USA if you are interested. All of these jobs are posted daily by companies and such. Just send me a message and I will give you the addy.

I am so sorry to here this... it is disappointing to have this happen to you, but dont let it get to you... here in Michigan they announced that our unemployment is up over 10% for the first time in over 20 years and alot of people that are on unemployement are not getting there money as well right now and they are having problems with getting answers from the offices that are still open.
It is tough all over, but you have to stay positive...something will come along!! you have to remember that!! good luck!!

I know the feeling, I'm in similar shoes minus benefits from my last job. Sounds like these particular people aren't going to do anything no matter what action you take. Is there a way to find work that will further your skills in your field and make you a must-have find for any employer? I'm sure there's a way make a success story, but I agree these are some crazy lemons to make lemonade from right now.

I'm so sorry to hear you lost the money, and appeal. I do know how it is and that's what really upsets me so much about our states and country. People that have never worked and won't work get things above what those of us that have worked and will work can get.
They know how to work the system I was told by someone. Well, I for one don't I filed for disability 7 times and been denied each time. They know I can't work. It is so hard for me to even be here but I love my friend shere at the lot and love being here as much as my back and other problems will let me.

I am very sorry to hear this. The company you worked for must be denying it. I don't think companies should be able to let people go without paying part of the un-employment claim for them unless they are fired due to theft or extreme misconduct. I know times are very hard, and people who work hard should get benefits. Try to remain positive, you will need to be positive to get out there and interview. I know times are really, really hard, I wish you all the best and hope you find new employment soon.

Were you given a reason why you were denied? Usually if you are fired, you have to wait awhile, until they find out the reason you were fired. I was laid off in May, but unemployment had to verify with my company why I was no longer working for them. It took about a month, after having a phone interview, and also my company had to have a phone conference before I was granted the benefits.
I can understand your distress. It is really ashame that you have to fight for your money. You mentioned that you had two jobs in 2008, I know in my state, they do a base pay review, and if you have not earned a certain amount of money, you will not be eligible.
I think the way things are now, everyone who applies for benefits should receive them. What really do they think you are going to live on until you find another job.
