As a parent of six kids, I encourage my kids to learn how to swim. It is a very important skill that I want my children to learn. Aside from the fact that when your kids are into sports, parents are assured that their kids are not gonna be involved in any vices. They will take good care of themselves.

I was very sheltered as a child and didnt get to do things normal children got to do including swimming. With that being said today im still scared of the water and drowning. Anytime im in a pool I have to stay on the edge and hold on or stay in the shallow end. Swimming is a skill that everyone should have in case of an emergency. Sadly this is a skill im not lucky enough to have at this point in my life. Children learn these skills quicker so I think its a great idea to have them learn while they are young.

Swimming is a skill that EVERYONE should learn. You never know when you may find yourself in the water. I learned to swim as a young child. I learned the old-fashioned way if you know what I mean. In other words, I was thrown in...LOL My parents later paid for me to take proper swimming lessons so that I could learn more. When I got a little older, I became a Boy Scout, and was taught a lot of boating, swimming, and water rescue/survival techniques. We practiced these things regularly. I became very comfortable in the water, and I am still comfortable in the water today even though I don't swim much any more. The skills I learned are still with me today if I need them. I definitely recommend you put your kids in swimming lessons...

I agree with you too. I regret that I haven't learn how to swim since I was a little kid. This is a kind of life-saving skill. And it will be late to learn after he grows up.

It is very much neccesary for a child to learn swimming. The first advantage is that he can save some life and next he can participate in some competition and win awards. Now i regret that i could have learned swimming in my childhood.

i agree with you 100%. i would want my kid to learn how to swim because 1) its good for her health; 2) the advanced lessons can help her ace her PE class 3)it fosters confidence and social skills especially when kids learn with other kids 4) she'll know how to save herself and others when circumstances call for a water rescue

I agree with you 100%. We put our girls' in swimming class when they were 2 and half, but the sad part was, they got ear infection so many times and their pediatrician wanted us to wait till they turn 5 years old. Now they are 4 and I can't wait to enroll them again next year.

Everyone needs to learn how to swim, and it's best to start at an early age. Look at me. I didn't learn how to swim as a child; as an adult, I am now very much afraid of deep seawater (I have "mild" hydrophobia) and will probably never learn how to swim.

I tried to get my kids used to the water from a very young age and this past summer they both learned a lot about swimming and did very well with it. It just makes me feel safer knowing that they are safer around the water now and even though I still worry it still helps me out a little more. They both have a great love of the water and like to spend every minute of the summer that they can in the pool or at the lake camping.
