What is the best way to make your teenager open up more?

parenting - Mother and child picture is a very heart warming scenario.

I have a 16 year old boy. I noticed that he seldom talks about what's happening in the campus, his latest crush and personal things about him. He is the timid type. It's hard to relate with him now unlike when he was young. He shops by himself and is making a world of his own now. I miss my son. I wish he could open up some more and make me his friend.

My advice is - try to be a friend and only then a mum. Teenagers get mixed up, they have many questions, they start to get adult and sometimes they are afraid from it. Try to feel a distance with his privacy but be smart enough to let him understand that you won't blame them after they have done something wrong, be patient and everything will be fine. I remember myself as a teenager, it was tough for me too, my head was full of all the new stuff I was getting in to.
