Recycling

Do you make an effort to recycle your waste? There is so much emphasis these days on recycling packaging, paperwork etc - do you pay attention and recycle? Personally I do try and recycle what I can - I feel guilty if I just throw things into the regular waste bin. How about you?

I do what I can. I don't use many cans but those I do I donate to the fire department to help the Shriners--they treat children for free. I recycle my newspapers and phone books, too.

Thanks for the response. Recycling certain things is often convenient and easy to do. It's nice that you are able to donate old cans which then is able to go towards feeding kids - really nice

I do recycle paper and plastic bags. I recycle paper by turning it into paper charcoal. I could use them in cooking food. I clean and fold plastic bags properly for future uses. Plastic bottles can also be recycled. I have learned this stuff in a science fair where plastic bottles are turned into decorative materials. They can be made into colorful decorative fishes. Let's stop burning and let's recycle to help save our earth.

They do inspect, but leave the responsibility to each household to help in recycling. They give fines for those households that won't cooperate.

Yes this sounds quite similar to the way they do things where I live

I try to recycle but I use the regular excuse of "I'm too busy" and to be honest I am not entirely sure what can be recycled and what can't! I reuse plastic bags and we recycle paper and plastic at work and I think that is about it. I think councils have taken on too much and not explained it enough to users!

Thanks for the response. Yes I do agree - it can be confusing at times trying to figure out what can be recycled and what has to be disposed of normally.

We have curb-side recycling in our town. We have two containers that we use and pick up is twice a month. We could probably use about 2 more containers! We recycle a lot! Paper, plastics, aluminum, and glass. I wash things in the sink, dry them and put them in plastic grocery bags and hang them on my kitchen door knob. When I go out to the car, I take any bags from the door with me and put it in the recycling container in our detached garage. It keeps it out of the way as recycling could take over your house.

I keep all plastic bottles that I buy and give it to our helper so she can sell them - and whoever buys them will recycle it :D I also have a home-made piggy bank made from one of those plastic bottles. However I find it difficult to segregate because it's useless in my community - what's the point of segregating when you look at the common trash bin and see that no one else did? Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Hi thanks for your response. It's nice that you make an effort to save your plastic bottles. I know how you must feel about everyone else not bothering with recycling, but you shouldn't let that put you off - it's always good to be different, and even better if you are different in a good way!

I recycle everything that I can. Paper in to the paper bin, cans intothe cans bin, containers into the containers bin. I even have in the back of my car, a recycled bag for grocery shoppings. And some plastic bags that I use and reuse as many times I can.Almost till they got ripped and can not carry in them anymore. I also take perodically some plastic bags to the library. You know, how people take books out of the library and have nothing to carry them in?At my library they have a small bin with bags and everyone can take one when needed.I paid attention that the bin is quite fast empying, so I fill it back, every time I go to the library. Keep your recycling ways and we're on the right track to save the environment!

Hello! I recycle as much as often as possible. There are so many things we waste or simply toss out without a second thought. Household items like empty plastic milk jugs, empty 2 liter plastic bottles, aluminum foil, egg cartons and many more can be used in many useful ways. Add a cardboard box to this list and you have a mini greenhouse! It's nice to see other conscientious people out there in the world! Green matters! meow & ciao! !^..^!

Hello and thanks for the response! Yes I agree. Things can often be disposed of because people may not feel the concept of recycling/reusing matters. I think having an understanding of why it is essential to recycle is the only way to encourage people to do it.
