I have often wondered why and how does prejudice can still exist in our world where it seems as though we have come so far, but yet have so very far to go in human relations. Does hate and prejudice exist because of the way a person is raised, or is it something more profound and deeper that exist in the human spirit?

I truly believe that it still exist because of the way people raise thier kids. If anyone sits back and think about it, when a child is born they don't have a clue about color or race. We as parents teach it to them and we also teach them how to hate because kids play with kids no matter the color. I know that for a fact because I caught myself doing it woth my 6 yr old son. He has a friend at school and he was telling my and my husband about him and the first thing I said was "What is he?" meaning color. My son responded green. Now we all know that there is not a grrn race but he is a kid and does not know anything about being black, white, mexican, etc. Our actions and adults are taught to us a kids and I truly believe you can blame the parents for it.

Thank you for leaving this comment, indeed, many of these prejudices do stem from families teaching and provoking hate.

I think that prejudice is something that is taught - it is not inherent. While I was raised in a predominately white neighborhood, I was never taught that being something other than white was a bad thing. My parents never made a big deal over the color of someone's skin - they just treated all people the same. I think that if they were to call more attention to color then I would have turned out differently in my attitudes toward other races.
If we followed what the Bible says, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," then there would be little room for prejudice. Nobody wants to be hated, treated as less than human, pushed aside, or made to feel unwanted. Why, then, do people do that to others?
I think that if we all thought, "How would I feel if someone else did this to me?" before we acted in a negative or derogatory manner toward another person, then a lot of the problems we have would disappear.

I must say that if some of the Republican Congress men and women would remove their blinders then we could move on to make this a great and profitable country for all people. I agree with you on how you were raised, in my neighborhood I had white friends that were great people of character and dignity. It truly is about the spirit of God and Jesus moving in between our lives to make us the best we can be. Thanks once again for the great and positive comment.

Because some people's so-called "religion" tells them to kill innocent people to enforce their beliefs on others.

I believe that we are all equal at the moment of birth.
But society is so full of evil, more than good. And instead of rising above the evil, do only good, and do what matters even if you know you'll be criticized, it's much easier to go down to others' level.Always easier to go down than to keep up and be a leader for good.
As long as material things will matter, evil will exist and try to force us to go down to their level.
If you don't, they will opress and supress you as much as they can.
You have to be a very strong and determined person , to know what you want and not "kill" someone else on your way up.
