Can someone please explain to me how to get screen captures from my computer screen? Usually you see this with tutorials and articles that describe how to use software programs, etc. I would like to do single image captures and also video captures (like where you see the mouse pointer move around and click on a tab in the how to demos.) thank you.

I know there is a way to do this with just your keyboard. Something like hitting the printscreen button and then saving the picture in your paint program. I don't use that though.
I use Faststone Screen Capture. It is terrific. Lots of features that I don't use, but it is simple to capture the screen I want. You can find a free download by typing faststone 5.3 in your search bar.
The newer versions cost but the version I have you can still get for free. Check it out. I am sure you will love it. Once you capture the screen it takes you to an editing section so you can add watermarks, text, borders, and captions, or resize it. All in all I love this little program.

Sorry, faststone only does images. For videos I downloaded camstudio. It is free for all uses, but I have yet to actually try it out. You can find out more at www.camstudio.org (not a referral link, just a straight link to the website.)

For screen captures, you can press ctrl+print screen on your keyboard. Go to Paint in Start Menu-Programs-Accessories-Paint and put your picture in that software.

All you have to do is press the print screen button then the screen will be placed on your clipbboard. Go to MS Paint then paste the picture there. You can then edit the item from there. This wont work with video as from what i know the data played is directly sent to the video card. I dont know how to remedy this though

There' s a key on your keyboard that says print screen it's right next to F12, press that key then open paint and ctrl+v and there you go just save it.
