Starting this coming school year, Nursing and Education courses will become a 5 year course according to the new CHED Curriculum. By 2010 school year all non-board exam and with board exam courses will also become a 5 year course. What do you think are the effects of this 5 year curriculum on our education??

Hello cathya! I am pretty sure that the board of education has it's purposes and it's for a good reason. If I am still studying, I would probably not agree with this. We all know that this is for our benefits but just thinking that it would take me to long to graduate made me sad. Maybe they are just adding some very helpful subjects too. But why don't they remove those useless subjects?

I agree with you! Instead of increasing the years of studying why don't they remove irrelevant subjects like PE?? I guess it is not anymore relevant to take in college since we have PE from Elementary to High School.

..well, for me, I don't see the real purpose of lengthening the number of years in college education.. When we recall our past, our parents did not study for a very long years however, they acquire great knowledge even if they didn't finish college.. It should have been better if the government would focus their attention on how teachers could deliver adequate knowledge and quality education to students.. In my own opinion, it will just be an added burden for parents who are supporting their children in school because their expenses would increase.. The longer the time, I believe the students will be bored and they will already get exhausted.. as of today, there are those who prefer to study vocational courses than the degree courses.. Our government officials doesn't realize that what we are more of is skills.. They should look for other ways on how we could develop our skills and at the same time, widen our knowledge without much expenditures.. However, we can't do something about that because I guess, that's already final.. how i wish our government would then offer more scholarship programs..

Precisely! CHED should focus on the strict implementation of the curriculum to attain quality education. The decision for this 5 year course is not yet final, CHED together with all the deans of colleges and universities particularly the board of Nurses will still have series of deliberation before the implementation of this 5 year courses.

One of my thoughts on this, cathya, is that if it was British Columbia, we would be in dire trouble! We now have an extreme shortage of Nurses, Doctors, and medical personnel...this would triple our shortage, waiting for the grads! what is the reason for extending the cirriculum? Cheers!

Good idea but not for those who are less fortunate to avail to study in college, and Imagine Nursing course is not a joke. And If all of the courses will be 5 years, well what will those students think, they will live studying forever. I think If they were into college they should think many times what course are they going to take, so there's no wasting money and time. If CHED already approved this, I think our government should also do something about this. Free college education on those needy and scholarship for those who deserve it. Well, I hope after the President election our country will change for good.

i this there is no advantage of staying long studying a certain courses in a college or universities. the performance depends on how the school run to their respective students. many schools are not concern to the learnings of their students. They only concern on the tuition fees paid by their students. I think this plan is not favorable to the parents and students. More years in college more expenses they will pay.

Well, I think 5 years course isn't the right decision for them to make.. We all know that our economy right now is in very bad condition so it would be hard for the parents who were not rich to let their children finished their studies in college since another year of expenses will be added to them.. I hope the Ched had able to think about it before they decide this kind of things.. Many young people at this very present moment need to stop going to school because of financial crisis.. And some who were studying in college have a difficulty financially except those who were rich families.. Increasing another year in college isn't that good decision because no matter how many years a student will study in college if the facility and the teaching strategy of a teacher isn't that great then it would be useless.. We all know that for now diploma and transcript of record is the most important thing in all company.. So whether you learned something in college or not for as long as you have the skill they needed you are qualified for the job.. So, 5 years in college isn't really best thing to do for the Ched as what I've been noticing right now..
