I really want to learn photography to I think taking pictures is so much fun. There are some websites you can go to and submit your pictures to win things. You could try doing that its fun. I entered a picture I took of a mountain one time on picture.com and get a letter saying I had a chance to win something. The only problem was to see if i won I would have had to go on a trip and didnt have the money to go at the time.

Hi, nayanimuralidhar, welcome to the world of photography!!
Before you can take good photos, you have to manage some basic techniques,
then take more photos, discuss with friends or other photographers, you may post photo here and ask fellow mylotter to discuss it and give you comment.
The first book you have to read is the user manual of your camera, it tells you everything you have to know about your camera.
Happy myLotting !! and Happy Photo-ing !!

i think to learn photography, just do it. it is all about ur style and what u see as a photographer. u dont need education in art fields. it is all based on ur individual skills and style.
but if u want to improve on ur own basic skills, maybe take a couple of classes at ur local community college for fun and feedback from others. it will help you to grow and learn from different styles.
or put "photography" in search and check out other work to see what others are doing. it is interesting to see other people's styles.
or go to a local art gallery and check out other people artworks.
museums, college art galleries, lots of art galleries on the internet.
i have met many artists on the internet promoting their work.
just internet surf and learn on ur own, then go out and practice on ur own.

Picture.com is a scam site: avoid it! Betterphoto.com is an excellent site; they have free competitions with real prizes, they have a really active forum with thousands of very good photographers ready and happy to answer questions and give advice and critique you photos.
They also offer courses in all aspects of photography at quite reasonable prices, and you can get a free website or, for a small fee, a more complex one with fewer limitations on the number of pictures you post (from memory, the free gallery is limited to 100 images).
What books should you read? There is a listing here: http://www.rupizcompare.co.uk/books-and-magazines/book-category.aspx?bookCategory=art
but I think you would be better off buying some magazines, or taking out a subscription to one. You could also get lots of free advice from my series of lessons on photography at davidarich.qassia.com and then, as you get a better idea of the kinds of photography that are available to you, you could choose the best courses to do.
