Glamour Shots is not what is used to be

There used to be a time when Glamour Shots was actually glamourous. They used to transform you to look like a movie star and used to dress you up in sequined and rhinestone jackets and gowns, feathers around the shoulders, and elaborate jewelry. And they had some pretty backgrounds. Now, I was just looking at the glamour shots website and I see how it has drastically changed. First of all, they tell you to bring your own outfits. The pictures look so plain, it look like snapshots and from the pictures I've seen, mostly everybody is dressed casual. And they just throw a sheet behind you for the background. If you want to take casual pictures, you can just go to the photograph studio at Walmart or Kmart.

I just checked out the Glamour Shots website. I was looking at the photo gallery, and I think they are, for the most part, beautifully taken professional photos. I am no model, but I am a photographer. I think that the Glamour Shots of the past, with the feather boas, huge jewelry, and sequins, are rather rediculous and look like someone trying to play dress-up.

I concur, it brings back memories of the 80s... And Napoleon Dynamite. :) I've been thinking about trying to set up my own "Glamour Shots" kind of deal in my area.

Thanks for sharing.....I have thought about getting glamour shots for my websites etc. My friend had them done several years ago and they look wonderful! I wouldn't waste my money on them now.

I mean, their pictures look so rediculous. They might as well call it Casual Shots because there is nothing glamourous about it anymore. They used to have a glamour shots in my home town but it went out of business because of the way it has changed and people just got fed up with them and stopped going. I took some glamour shots when I was 13 years old and they came out so beautiful. I dont think I would want to take any now. I hope their not charging high prices for the way those pictures look now. Thanks for your responses and Happy MyLotting!

Are you serious?? My niece had pics done with them yrs ago and she looked so cute the way they did her up...I wonder why the drastic change in how they do it? Unless of course they just werent getting the biz they use to and it made no sense for them to have a higher overhead or whatever..

I guess the whole "Glamour Shots" fad isn't popular anymore. My guess is that people started thinking it was cheesey and lame and stopped going. Glamour Shots probably started losing money and decided to revamp their whole studio. Being a regular portrait studio is probably more profitable nowadays than a portrait studio that dresses you up in rhinestones and sequins! I guess people don't want photographs of themsevles looking glamorous... they just want professional portraits done of them looking like their everyday selves.

There are a couple of companies in Sydney operating in most larger shopping malls: Starshots is the one that comes to mind: they do the kind of hair/makeup/dress-up and shoot you are talking about, and they make it a special treat. But they are like a lot of other firms, with "free" or discounted sittings that turn out to be very expensive if you want anything more than the single picture offered as the special. On the other hand, there are plenty of photographers offering a range of services in the glamour area, but you really need to shop around...the Internet makes it a lot easier, and easier to weed out the shonks, too!

I remember doing that years ago with my sisters. They had makeup artists, really neat clothes and they took great pictures. It was fun. It's too bad they're not living up to their name anymore.
