Hi bamakelly,
I eat pasta salads quite frequently and I have done this many times, its a quick and easy side dish to prepare and have along with your meal. It also makes a delicious snack. YUMMY! Sometimes for a change I will use manderine orange salad dressing, it gives the pasta salad an entirely new flavor.

As a kid, my mother used to use Italian Salad dressing to make pasta salad. So basically, what she would do was cook the pasta and add the dressing while the pasta was still warm. After it cooled, she then added veggies, cheese, olives or whatever and then maybe add more dressing to taste. I liked it a lot better than other pasta salads that have mayo in it. This way just always seemed a lot lighter to me.
I must admit that I have never tried this on hot pasta. It certainly is an interesting idea. I think that the next time I make my mother's pasta salad, I will have to taste some of the hot pasta with the dressing on it.

Ooohhhh...I've got one better than that! You take the corkscrew veggie flavoured dry pasta and prepare that. While that's cooking, you can dice up some fresh tomatoes, halve black olives, chop some onions (I like red for this), any coloured bell peppers and dice some cheese into small chunks. Throw that all together in a bowl and chill it for a few hours. Yummy! Oh, and salt and pepper.
