Yes, but I think they should be allowed if they know the responsibilities that they should carry when they have a mobile phone with them...

Do mobile phone really raise children's risk of brain cancer? Does it affect the adults in the same way? I never heard of that and have not read any studies regarding it.
I think that it's appropriate for a 12 year old to receive his/her first mobile phone. It would actually be essential to keep in touch with the kid especially if he/she is engage in many activities outside school - organizations, projects, etc. Also, it would help her feel comfortable with her friends because they would most likely have one also :) It doesn't have to be the best model, but it should be decent.
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

We all know that there are pros and cons in using mobile phones not only in children but also in adults. But particularly in children,I don't feel comfortable at all of letting them have their own mobile phones, if not only they're studying quite far from our residence, I would not really give them the privilege.

I don't believe kids under the age of 16 in general should have a cell phone... When my kid starts to drive, then I'll get a cell phone... My thought is, if she's not old enough to drive then she's not old enough to have a cell phone... My daughter has no business being alone without an adult's supervision... As far as health related issues, I'm not too worried about it because I've been using a cell phone for 20 years & I have ran into any cell phone related health issues yet...

I think children should have a mobile phone just in case of emergencies. As far as the age I think when they are about 12-13 maybe 10ish it is probably time to get them a real phone but before that they have several options for children's phones. Such as the firefly, it was a popular 3 button children's phone for a while. so there are options out there for younger children. And as far as the risk of brain cancer, science has really approved in just the last 5 years in that area. There is no longer a substantial risk in brain cancer from cell phones. If you visit cnet.com I know you can get a chart that will show you the radiation given off by cell phones, and you can see that it is even less than most microwave ovens.
