Do you follow the 10 commandants? Or do you find that you need to amend them as you go about your daily lives?

Hello :) I do try to follow the ten commandments in my life, but as many people will know, it isn't always easy. I do try my best though, and I guess that's all any of us can do. Try our best. God will know that we've tried.

I follow the one commandment of the new testament given by Jesus. The ten original commandments given to the old jews are of the old covenant.

Does that mean they aren't any good anymore? And which commandment of Jesus do you follow? I can think of three right now.

One. Love. As long as you follow that commandment you are following all the commandments, because you will not harm or disrespect your fellow man, as long as you love.

Before that Jewish man that you call a god was born, a Jewish sage named, Hillel, stated: "All of the Torah (Old Testament) can be put into one sentence: Don't do unto others what you wouldn't want to have done to yourself. All the rest is commentary." If you follow the 10 Commandments, you will follow the rules of love and "doing unto others" or rather Not doing unto others.

The only "rules" I follow are ones that actually serve a purpose in my life...and they all basically boil down to being kind and compassionate and living mindfully on all levels possible..

As a catholic I try to follow the 10 commandments as close as possible. But as humans we never fail to commit sin. When I break any one of the commandments I will have to go for confession to be pardoned.

The 10 Commandments were given to the Jews (and are included in the total 613) and we don't believe that non-Jews are responsible for following these laws. We hope & pray they will follow the 7 laws that were given to Noah. By doing so we consider them "Righteous Gentiles" and they are afforded a place in "Olam HaBa" or the World to Come (Heaven). For more info on the Noahide Laws, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Laws_of_Noah

They are almost completely different laws - the 7 Noahide laws and the 10 commandments. Check it out more thoroughly on the link I copied above. There are some groups who call themselves B'Nai Noach (Sons of Noah) who follow these laws. Here's a yahoo group for B'Nai Noach: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Noachide/ Here's a website that gives a list of books on the subject: http://www.noach.com/emmanuel/catalog/books.htm

I rather like the idea of Mrs Do-as-you-would-be-done-by from Charles Kingsley's book, The Water Babies. I think that, as a philosophy, probably encapsulates the 10 Commandments anyway.

Since I am not a Christian and am not Jewish the Ten Commandments are not very relevant to me. I find that if I live a life in which I try to be compassionate towards all living things and observe the one rule of, "Do no harm" things seem to work out well.

Do no harm seem like an all inclusive rule to me, but could get complicated when one has to choose between two wrongs?

I try and follow God's Commandments. I am a Christian and love the Lord and want to obey and follow Him. How rewarding it is when I do that!! He is good ALL the time! Read the Bible, God's Holy Word, and you will learn all about God and how you should live your life to glorify and praise Him! There is no life like it! God bless!

I don't believe you can change or corrupt what the mosaic laws say. If it was to kill someone of course I am going to feel guilty, and probably be found out and arrested, and hopefully an eye for an eye would happen.
