Hello friends, can you jog your memory a bit and tell me if you can remember which is the very first song that you heard ,which stuck in your memory and created a lasting impression? I will tell you mine. I was very small, perhaps six or seven years old. I had gone to a country fair with my parents in a city in India where i live. As we wandered about my parents met some friends and stood talking to them. I very vividly remember the scene. Left to myself i stood looking around and watched people scurrying around, a clown standing on a platform shouting to the crowd to attract their attention. I also remember the single light bulbs illuminating the ground, there were no fluorescent light bulbs in those days. Suddenly i heard the sound of a female singer on the loudspeakers which were put up on wooden poles around the ground. She started singing and i was completely mesmerised by her voice and also by the song which was a haunting melody. I stood transfixed and everything around me was a blur.As the song ended i came back to my normal conciousness. I asked my mother who the singer was and about the song too. She said it was the now world famous Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar and the song was " Yeh zindagi Kisiki hai " a song from the film " Anarkali ".As i was listening to the song i had goosepimples and still get them whenever i listen to this same song. Can you give me your experiences about the first song you heard? Please share it with me and other mylotters.

Music has been a strong part of my entire life. We enjoy all types of music, except we don't seem to care too much for country. This could be from listening to it as a child. My first song that I can remember singing was the gambler by Kenny Rogers. I was a preschooler and my mother would be on the bus with me and I would sing it on the top of my lungs as the other passengers smiled and laughed. Now you would never get me to do something so bold. LOL My children remember many of the first songs I would sing to them as babies.

I remember the first Beatles songs being played on the radio when I was little but the one that really sticks in my mind is "Twist and Shout". A friend who lived in my neighborhood had the single 45 rpm record and she had a little record player. We listened to that song out in her garage and danced hour after hour. We played that record so much over several months that we literally wore the record out. Her mother had to go out and buy another one. It was different from most of the songs that we heard on the radio, it was so fun and emotional and it just makes you want to get up and dance. I loved it then and still do. I never got tired of hearing it.

This is a late answer but the first song I can recall hearing is Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix. I was a little kid but I can still hear it. I wondered why was he "gonna kiss this guy"? before I was older and heard the real words and got the meaning of the song.I still love listening to Jimi Hendrix, I took a picture of a statue of him in Capital Hill in Seattle close to where my b/f goes to his chiropractor.

I would say She Drives me Crazey by fine young cannibals. I love that song even to this day. It brings back so many good memories for me. I first heard it when I was 4 years old on the radio, I was at home. It is one of my favorite songs even now. Nice discussion and thanks for sharing your as well.

That's a terrific memory, so she's famous now? I assume you may have bought all her records. lol...the song "Danny Boy" stuck with me through out all the years. I first heard it sang by my mother, (she sings very well)and it stayed with me till now. Whenever I heard it sang, I always sing with it. It is a beautiful song with wonderful lyrics. Do you know that song? lol...Together with it is another Irish song "I'll take you home again Kathleen" These are very beautiful Irish songs. (I'm not from Ireland though). Cheers and happy mylotting.
