I really like candles. Especially the ones that have strong scents. I am especially fond of rose scented candles. I have one lit somewhere most all the time. They are also very nice for decorating purposes too. Some people like to put them on their dinner tables. Do you like burning candles? Are you partial to a certain scent?

I have a friend that's from New Hampshire and when she goes home to visit, she takes a list of those at work that want a Yankee candle. I haven't got her to get one for me yet because it seems she's always going when I don't have the extra money.lol I think she gets a good deal on them there.

Yankee candles are the best I've had so far! They are expensive though. That's nice your friend gives you some. Those things smell good even when they're not burning. I'll have to check out the sage and citrus scent when I go to the mall this weekend. Thanks for responding jo.

I too like candles, like you. Scented candles look all the more good and you are very right, they can used as show pieces. When candle burn, it gives us light but in the process, finishes itself. The meaning of my name is - 'earthern lamp, which is lit with the help of cotton tube and some oil'. Deepak also burn like candle and give light to others.............LOL!

I like candles too but I don't have any for a collection. I am fascinated by some candle designs. They look so pretty. What I usually buy are those for use. Especially when I am going to visit my best friend's tomb. One day I will buy one for our house as a decor. I like the scented candles to add some flavor in our house.

I love burning candles. I used to love the scented ones, especially lilac and vanilla. But now, I'm allergic to most scents. I still burn the regular kind. I think it's very soothing, watching the flame while doing dishes or some other task that takes time but not a lot of concentration. It's almost zen-like. I wish I could do it more, but too many tasks require moving around. I don't want to forget I've got one lit!! Burning the house down isn't on my agenda!!

From time to time my partner will use candles but not very often. That is mainly because my ex-wife liked candles so I would often buy them for her and we used them on special occassions. However, as my first marriage fell apart my now ex-wife started using candles on a regular basis. I actually thought that she had lit them for me when I came home after a week truck driving.
However, my daughters said a few things after we separated and it all fell into place for me. Just too late as it happened. My ex was using the candles I used to buy for her to cover up the smell of the aftershave of her boyfriend.
So as my partner is aware of my feelings about candles, we seldom use them at all and in fact most of the time it would be if we had a power outage. Sometimes she will have them alight but they will be on the side board and not the table. Also they will have a very subtle scent about them which is the opposite of what my ex-wife used to like.

Wow..you make them yourself. That would be great for me to learn as much as I like to burn them. I like a strong scented candle and I guess you can make them as strong as you want. My favorite brand is Yankee but they are expensive. I get them anyway sometimes because they are so good though.lol. Thanks for responding.

I'll have to try that. I like for my house to smell really good. I have a candle lit somewhere all the time too. I like the scented oils but I use a plugin thing for those. Never tried the ones heated by candles. Ocean Breeze is a great scent. I had a huge candle once that burned for about 4 months with that scent. I enjoyed it.

I love to burn candles and I also love to make them. That way you can make them as strong/weak as you like the scent to be. They have hundreds of scents to choose from. Probably my favorite in the winter is cinnamon. I like lighter scents in the Spring and Summer though. The last ones I made were dreamsickle. MMMM They smelled good enough to eat! LOL

Ohhh..I bet dreamsickle was nice. I would love to learn how to make them. How did you learn? A class or a book? How much time does it take you to make one? I know a couple of people that have taken up this hobby but not well enough to give them the twenty questions about it like you...LOL...Thanks for responding.

A friend of mine showed me how to make them. Here goes: LOL
Use a fry daddy (or some similar deep fryer) and set your temperature to 200 degrees.
Add your wax ( available at any candle supply store)
When your wax melts add small piece of color block (also available at candle supply store) then add your fragrance (usually about 1 ounce per pound of wax)
Pour into containers and add your wick! LEt it set up for 24 hours.
Not hard at all. I just make thm for myself and friends and I have had to learn as I go but it ireally very simple!
Wax does have a flash point kind of like grease so that is why you use something to gauge your temperature. You can also do it in a double boiler with a candy thermometer but I bought a fry daddy for 20 bucks and that'a all I use it for.
Good Luck

I love candles even though they are not really allowed in my house because they are considered a fire hazard.

I like candles as decorative items and always have at least 2 in my living room on a set of candle holders I have. I was looking into how easy they are to make and I'd like to give it a go as it's cheaper than I thought to buy the materials.

i almost bought some the other day but didn't. my mom really likes to burn them.
she'll have the whole house smelling really good from all her candles. plus it makes it nice. turn off all the lights and just have the candles burning.
i like to burn them while i'm smoking lol I like incenses too. i don't have a partial scent or anything. i like the flower ones and musk ones.

Funny you mention the smoking thing. A lady once told me that burning a candle gets rid of the smoke. Eats it or something. I can't remember. She said when she worked in a bar/resturant that when they burned candles there the place wasn't near as smokey as when they didn't. Thanks for responding.
