Now it is like a fashion that we celebrate a day for everything and everyone like valentines day, fathers day, mothers day, woman's day, etc....
As a woman, I love to ask other fellow women as well as men friends, whether they believe that celebrating woman's day really contribute to honour women of their life or just a mere political outlook? Without a real pride and honour from heart, what is the use of celebrating this day?

Don't worry about this issue, Mythilik. Every man also has mother and their mother is a woman, the sense of respect about woman always "touched" at man's heart. Hate or love is different matter, that is why I used the word "touched" in my second sentence. Another thing is the word "celebrate", it means to observe (a day) or commemorate (an event) with ceremonies or festivities.
So, it totally depends on the way how we celebrate "Woman's Day" to reach the title of a real honor. Of course it must be celebrated in an honorable way, but how? Let us start it in one small family with own ideas, customize collectively from all family members.
You asked me "What is the use of celebrating this day?". Actually, it is a global message to respect woman for their contribution to the world of family, community and country. At least, it is a way of respect and encouragement.

ha ha ha...respecting woman, meaning admiring human kind, Mythilik. Man cannot live without women. It justly like water and oxygen, where water is H2O; every molecule of water consists of two parts of hydrogen and one part of oxygen. So what is hydrogen in this case?...hahaha...our offsprings!.

having a ‘woman’s day’ is cheap political gimmick and an excuse for some people to earn some money. Nothing really happens much throughout the year to ameliorate the deplorable condition of women in many societies. Many schemes are launched with much fanfare, a lot of money is promised and huge sums in donations make their way, but at the end of the day, the storyline hardly changes in favour of the woman.

I feel men and women together form the society in all countries throughout all the ages. There is no reason to dominate or underestimate or commoditize women, and again to celebrate Women's Day.
The entire concept is funny. Everyday should be treated as Men's + Women's day. Because everything is meaningless without the two categories together.

I have never heard of this holiday. It must be another one of those Hallmark holidays. Just invented to get people to buy cards and gifts. Have fun spending money on this one. I don't expect anyone will do anything for me on Woman's Day.

Seriously, I never heard of such days, until I came to western country.... In our place, even birthdays are not celebrated by most of the family.... In my family, we used to go to temple and do a prayer on family members birthdays... Thats it.... But we used to celebrate festivals.... Except that, nothing :-(

The celebration of a particular day for a particular category is meant to remind the world how important is that category to the world. Making it to success or failure is in our hands. Women should be respected because of their mental strongness and their contribution to their family.

maybe on this special day we are actually honoring women as the one who brings forth life to this world...and let's face it, being able to bear and deliver a child to this takes a lot of sacrifices and pains...and it really puts the life of the mother down the line...so by this unselfish act done by many women in the world, it is but proper to give them the honours...
