As the word speaks for itself.Its entering the data in a specified format,collecting the information,details,may be from a source or number of sources and placing the collected data in the desired format.It can be a simple copy,paste job.But you need to have a lot of patience though,as it can become boring sometimes.

Usually it will be such tasks as putting the information from a form into a spreadsheet. So, for example, you know those long insurance forms that you have to fill out, the information from those gets fed into a data programme and from there the insurer can calculate if you are a good risk or not. Typically it is this sort of work.
