do alcoholics deserve a second chance?

i know this will probably get some varied responses but i was an alcoholic for the best part of 20 years(sine teenage years) and recently i had organ failure and was in a coma for a week then obviously hospitalised for a time after that and although this may sound like soething all alcoholics say i truelly have started a new life and am recovering physically and mentally.do you believe all the years of my drunken decision making and behaviour should be forgiven or should i just be made an outcast?
