I went to the market today and prices had gone up again, My one can of dog food went from $1 to $1.12 in one week, my math says that's over 10percent. i think that Dog is going to start getting table scraps with her dry food instead of canned dog food. Don't these people know that we aren't buying as much because we can't afford it and by raising the prices we will be buying even less. OK my rant for the day

Where I live it is now getting scary. Our dollar has lost against the US dollar ten dollars. This means that it takes $86 of my country's dollars to buy US$1. It has gone down over ten dollars in a week and shows no signs of stopping. Milk has gone up by $12 per carton and my grand twins drink one quart a day between therm. Everything has gone sky high and we do not have coupons for food or vegetables. We also do not have unemployment benefits for people out of work, so what are they going to do when they are hungry? No jobs and no money coming in. Just this morning a shopkeeper was changing prices on stock and said that she thought that it would lead to rioting. They are rioting in Mexico and other countries. This world economic crisis is not going to go away and people all over the world are panicking. I am so trying to be pro active by planting vegetables etc. But there is still a limit as to how much we can cut down on. Our main goal is to keep the jobs we have and hopefully not join the unemployed. Excellent post.

Hi savypat. Can you do some window shopping? Or all the brands have increased their price? I do understand that in these hard times one tries to save up even on dog food. I don't blame you for doing that. I hope that prices do go down again but it seems that the fuel increase it is a good excuse to put prices up

In my experience prices almost never go down as low as they were before, I think they raise the prices for a couple of weeks so they can show lower prices after that. Walmart seems to thrive on lowering prices after raising them.

Yesterday I went to a supermarket and saw six tins of dog food cost £3.29 and then later I went in to town. I saw the same six tins for just £2.00. So it sees that it pays to shop around a bit. I know some pet owners buy whichever brand is on special offer. In general prices have gone much higher so that is a great idea. Good luck.

life is really getting too difficult nowadays. i can't really believe how prices just increase so fast. i think that it will going to affect a lot of us and hit us so hard in our lives. i definitely will going to save more now and will not just buy things without planning first. before i can still afford to buy those things that are for pleasure and not for necessity. but now i am just prioritizing the things that i need to buy first than the things that i wanted in life.

Every where prices regularly rise to the sky. Last year the price of gasoline went up twice. And what happened? All other prices had to follow suit. Who's shouldering the burden? We are. What actually caused the price of things to rise? Until now I have no knowledge of it.

I get that message loud and clear I just don't understand why they don't except maybe every company who's "big enough" is setting up for their own bail out! Look at the banks taking the money and holding it until the government buys up all the bad loans, then they'll shell it out to those who they can make a buck from. Oh and don't forget that the government=us! Well this is my rant response friend.... we are on the same page

Hey pat! I went to buy cat food over the weekend and I thought the very same thing! The cans of cat food were 55 cents a can! That is alot of money! I have two cats! I give them each a quarter of a can per day plus dry cat food. I still can't really afford it! But, I'd rather do without food then have them do without it! I don't know why the food keeps going up! It's bad enough our food keeps going up!

Unfortunatly this is the case all over the world! believe it or not, high food prices are going up everywhere. Here are a couple of suggestions for feeding your dog a healthier and budget friendly meal: Rice & cornmeal, both cheap and very nutritious. Makes for a good base. Meat or bones, and a good amount of a chopped up veggie, and your dog will have the meal of a lifetime. Healthier than all that processed stuff, and it makes dogs more docile to eat veggies. For an added dose of calcium, you can save egg shells, wash them out, dry, and crush them (finely), then add a bit to the food's meal once a week or two weeks. I know it takes some prep time, but it's not really that back, you can cook it all in just a few mins. hope your dog likes it!

Lol, I know everything is so expensive nowadays. I don't bother going to the market now. Why don't you try one of these cashback sites, at least we get something back. I tried quidsin, I know it is good for UK customers but not sure about US. Buy-one-get-one free offers are great too.

Gas goes up, food goes up. Gas goes down, food continues to go up. What's the deal? I still buy good food though. Even if it's just a few cents, the pleasure is worthwhile.

Hi Savypat, I feed my dog dried food only anyway but will mix it with gravy and he does get some of our leftovers also. He favourite treat is to chew on a whole carrot which is much cheaper than buying a bone also. The prices of everything are going up and what I have been trying to do for all the animals is too buy larger sacks of food which works out more economical in the long run and I am using shredded paper as bedding for the rabbits instead of straw but still buying their hay. Huggles. Ellie :D

I feel your pain, I have two cats and their food is increasing as well. I heard that many people are abandoning their pets because they can not afford to feed them. I will not do that, because if I have something to eat, I can manage to get something for my pets. They like tuna, and whenever I can find cheap tuna I will get it for them. When I cook chicken, I will make some for them too.

that is the way I feel also, if I eat my pets will eat also. If you are giving human food type tuna, make sure you rinse it well there is way to much salt in it for your cats. But I'm sure you already knew that.

Oh Lord don't get me started on supermarket prices. Every time I go I get more and more frustrated. It's pretty sad when I sometimes have to tell my kids that we can't afford to buy some kinds of fruit of all things.
