After i make a meal and we eat, i put the leftovers away in the fridge to eat later on during the week, weather for lunch or another dinner. I about fell over one day when my girl friend told me her ex-husband refused to eat any sort of leftovers. I was like what? Why would anyone want to throw away perfectly good food? I could see if it was a new recipe and it came out bad but perfectly good food. So, do you eat leftovers or throw them away?

We eat leftovers. Usually it is just me though. We are a family of 5 so usually there is only enough leftovers for one serving. So either my husband will take the leftovers to work if it is something he really likes or I will eat them for lunch the next day. I don't know why people would throw out leftovers. I guess some stuff just doesn't taste as good reheated.

Hmm, could be i suppose that some things do not taste so great reheated. But in todays day and age, it just boggles me why some would choose to throw it away.

Either my fiance or myself (or both, if there's lots) will eat leftovers for lunch the next day. I find it's just easier when I come home at noon to pop something in the microwave rather than make some whole other meal. If something was really terrible then the remains of it may get chucked but for the most part we don't like to waste food.

I try to avoid wasting as much as possible. I agree, its easier to pop it in the microwave and have a great meal faster than you could order fast food.

Well my family can eat left overs or go hungry. I do try to make them a little different if I have a large amount. Sometimes I plan too have left overs. some foods just taste better after they have had time to set and marinate for a day. Your friend either had to eat bad left overs or his folks had so much money growing up he never had to have them. He doesn't know what he is missing.

Oh i know it. I think some foods taste better the next day or when u eat them because they have had time to sit and get happier. Well, we do a left over night too for dinner if we have lots from the week.

Yes Samma, I agree with you on that. The flavors have had time to really get better so to speak.

I always keep the left overs in the fridge, when money was a little easier I have to say a lot just ended up in the bin but now that things are tighter I rarely throw anything and I havn't had one complaint from the family, fingers crossed it will stay that way. I know of people that would not dream of keeping a bowl of left over mash or half of a massive jacket potatoe but they taste no different the next day. If I was your friend I would simply say nothing and start dishing up re-invented left overs. :)x

I agree. I have done that many of times. Left over chicken, made up a chicken noodle soup, or chicken pot pie out of it. So many ways to be creative with some things. :)

I always prepare enough food so that we can have left overs for our lunchs. It is cheaper that way and these days we are doing everything that we can to save money. I pack left overs in my husbands lunch as well. He would rather have left overs than a sandwich

Cheaper is better and more tasty than a sandwhich or fast food all the time. We all can do some things better and differently to save some money these days. :)

I try to eat leftovers. I always save any leftover food after dinner so that we can eat it later. If there is a lot left, then I just freeze it so that it'll last for a long time, and then we take it out and have it for dinner some other night. If it's just a little bit, then I usually just stick it in the fridge, and then it can be lunch the next day. I just don't feel right throwing away extra food!

we eat leftovers. its good to have, especially on days when you are in a hurry or just don't feel like cooking. After a while I have learned to cook just the right amount of food for the family. but when we do have leftovers, it does not go to waste.

I can sometimes cook just the right amount but I usually always cook for an army at times. I have a family of 5. 3 growing boys who eat me out of house and home most days.

We hardly ever throw any food away. If we have alot of leftovers in the fridge then one night we have leftover night. My husband takes his lunch to work everyday so usually he takes what was left from the night before. With the cost of things now days I can't see how anybody can afford to throw away anything let alone food.

I hear ya. If we have alot of leftovers we will do a left over night or we call it a hodge podge dinner. It works and it gets eaten and you get your tupperware back.

Oh my gosh! A man who won't eat leftovers? What's the world coming to? LOL My fiance and I love leftovers! Especially things like lasagna. Sometimes, it tastes even better the next day, reheated in the microwave. :-) Plus, with the way the economy is and all the starving people in the world, I feel guilty throwing perfectly good food away.

Gnocci is a great way to use leftover mashed potatoes. Just mix in flour until you have a dough. Use just enough flour so its not sticky.
Take a small amount, a little smaller than a walnut, and make a ball. Push your thumb in it to make a dent to hold the sauce. Boil for a few minutes until they rise to the top. Don't over cook. Serve with tomato sauce or your favorite pasta sauce. If they come out hard it means you either over cooked or added to much flour. After a few tries you will learn exactly the right amount of flour.
Gnocci is really yummy. Mmmmmm

I agree, it costs too much money now a days. I hate to throw food away as well. But sometimes I forget it is in there so then have no choice because it now is a science experiment, lol. Ty for sharing. :)

if we didnt have left overs in the fridge, half of the week i would starve. when i come home late from work i just have to look in the fridge instead of waiting another hour and cooking another meal. we also have a dog so when the left overs havent been eaten we give them to him, hes a portable vaccuum cleaner.

I always save left overs. I usually also cook so I do have left overs. I work 5-7 days a week and usually I don't have the energy to cook every night, so for me it is more than convenient to have frozen food I can just microwave after a hectic day.
I used to be against eating left overs because I was scared of bacterial growth in the fridge :P But I read up on it later and now I'm just fine eating left overs :)

Good for you that you took the time to research that it is perfectly fine to eat leftovers. And as you said, it saves time and money with your busy schedule.

Of course I eat leftovers, why would I throw away good food. Usually I eat any meat the next day in sandwiches for lunch. A spoonful of vegetables is put in a ziplock bag and tossed in the freezer to be used for the next time I make soup stock. Remains of a whole roasted chicken are boiled down with herbs and veggies to make chicken stock, which I also freeze. Sometimes chicken meat is made into chicken stew and dumplings or a chicken pot pie. If I have a lot of cooked vegetables left over I boil a handful of pasta and make a vegetable salad. Delicious and so inexpensive! check out the prices at the deli counter! and then there is Spanish Rice made with fresh rice and all kinds of leftover meat, veggies, sausage and spices. The possibilities are endless.

So true, the possibilities are endless when it comes to left overs. At thanksgiving time, I freeze some turkey and the turkey carcass for when I want to make turkey noodle soup up. Anything kind of meat goes with pasta or rice as well so just do what sounds good to you and you will be surprised.

We always put them in the fridge. Sometimes there are a few foods that I just don't like leftover and I struggle to eat them again. However, we never start out planning to throw away food.
However, my mom had a friend who's husband never let them eat leftovers. If she had some she would try to find someone else who would eat them. We often ate them for her while I was growing up. I must say...its a good thing she was a good cook!

Oh I take home doggie bags. I am paying for it and I am taking home what I cannot finish. Only time I will not do this is if I am not going home straight away and will be gone from home for a while.

Hey swietekfam! I always eat leftovers! In fact I sometimes
make leftovers into a whole new meal! I will sometimes see
what's left in the refrigerator and see how I can put them
together and make them into something! I don't mean throw them
all together in one pot! When my boyfriend first moved in he
didn't want to eat leftovers either, but he quickly got over
that! Now he loves having food leftover so he can have them for
lunch or after work for another meal!

Hi Opal. It is fun to be creative and see something new you can whip up with a few ingredients from you fridge. I learned to do that as well, it saves time and most importantly money. Happy Creating!

I always eat leftovers. I do enjoy the tasted of a freshly cooked meal but you are right, there is nothing wrong with leftovers. Place it in the microwave for 2 minutes and let the eating beginning. My favourite is leftover cold pizza and a glass of milk; priceless!

We eat leftovers. What i do is, If it looks like I made too much food, I usually store half of it before we eat and then put the rest out for us to eat. Its only my hubby and me who eat, my kids are babies so they dont eat that much anyway. I usually end up with leftovers. Actually some food taste better the next day or a couple of says later, dont you think?

I agree.. Some foods do taste better the next day or two. I freeze things as well to do them as another meal or jazz it up a bit.
