Hardcopy or Softcopy?

So what do you prefer more as reading purpose? We can almost get all the reading materials on the computer as soft copy through internet or by other means. But I cannot read for a long time sitting in front computer. So most of the time I make printout of those copies or try to find those on the books. So I prefer hard copy. What do you use? Hard copy or soft copy.

I definitely go for hard copy books though softcopies will do specially when your always on the go. I have a hardcopy of my books at home where i do most of my studying while i store a soft copy in my palm. That way when i need info right away i just reach for my palm without having to bring heavy books

I agreed. Nowadays we are lucky because in case hardcopies are gone/damaged we can still print it back from the softcopies. But not for novels, i always have passion reading novels and fantasy books in a way of hardcopies.

Personally, I could deal with either. At least computer copies and digital copies would be a lot cheaper to buy and would be easier to transport or to write notes in. It would save a lot of trouble really, having to buy large expensive books that are easy for people to steal. Saving money on textbooks would be nice. However, sometimes it is nice to get away from the computer and just sit somewhere else with a hard copy of a book in your lap reading and making notes.

I prefer to have the softcopy of books. For some reason I find them better than the hardcopies. It might be because I can hold them easier and smaller than the hardcopy, though I do have a few hardcopies in my collection.

I would always prefer the old-fashioned hard copy of a book or document if I can get it. It just doesn;'t seem the same when you view it on a screen and I'm sure it's bad for the eyes and posture to sit for hours staring at a screen.

Yes you are absolutely right about posture. With hard copy you can comfortably sit and read for hours.

If it's a lot of pages, I prefer hard copy - sometimes reading the screen too long is tiring on the eyes! And if it is something I need to study or work with , then I would prefer to have the hard copy with me, so that I can highlight or scribble some points.

Highlighting is a useful technique to read a lot pages. I use the same technique during reading a lot of hard copies.

It is hard for me to really get into a book or story that I read on the computer. Articles and discussions are fine, but when I am reading something that has a lot more material, and more depth even, I prefer to be able to wander anywhere that seems comfortable to read.

hi partha. as you asked which one to prefer i always prefer hard copy for reading purposes as it is tiresome to stare constantly in front of a computer for reading. it is also advisable to take print outs of the reading materials instead of damaging the eyes by looking constantly on the monitor. but this goes only for reading. as per pictures are concerned i prefer soft copies or better still storing them in dvds. as for pictures they always tend to get damaged once you take a print out of it even on a photo paper thus losing memorable moments. so for the pictures digital soft copies are always preferable. they also look very nice if you have a screen with a good resolution support.

I prefer a hard copy so I can mark the important words or paragraphs. In addition, it hurts my eyes when I read in throught the computer.

Hi friend, I used to do what u do. We can get a lot of information in a computer, but it is very difficult to sit and read everything. So i used to get printout of whatever matters i want and i sit and read comfortably. Hard copy is very convenient for us to read. The reason is that, we have more time to sit and read than reading in a computer and we can read with relax in a hard copy. It won't affect our eyes as much as a soft copy. Thank you.

It depends on what i want to do really. If i want to solve questions i do that on paper(though the questions may be on soft sometimes). There are some text books that are better read on the hard than the soft so i study those too on paper. The major work i do on soft is like simulations, prossesses- like blood flow, heart beat and the like. Or for ploting of graphs and multiple calculations. More so, health-wise it is not good to sit at a screen for long hours. So i alternate.

Most of the time, I prefer reading on a hardcopy. Reading a softcopy on the computer can strain my eyes. Plus, that saves electricity (I think.. by not turning on your computer or some other device you use to read the softcopy). However, if it would require you to print, I think it's more environmentally friendly to not print to save on the paper (plus ink, too)

hardcopy. This is so it's more mobile for me. If it's my exam notes that is. I get to highlight and write notes and explanations here and there. It's also easier for me to remember. Softcopy requires my computer to be switched on. And in some cases, like in the middle of the night, i don't want to switch on my computer just to look at one or two lines during my memorization.

Hi parthasarathide~ I don't mind reading stories online for awhile. If there is something that is extremely long though I tend to also print it out and read it later on. I usually am better off reading it from the screen because I do have a tendency to let the other papers that I print pile up and then they never do get read!

I have different preferences for different situations. If I am reading a novel or magazine, I prefer a hard copy. If I were looking at journal articles or short papers for university purposes, I would prefer a soft copy. A soft copy better serves as a way to view things for a short period of time.

Always hard copy. Lit screens in general tend to hurt my eyes over extent time of reading. An hour is fine. But after that I need to take a break, while with hard copy I can finish studies without any breaks :) Although it's alot more convenient with softcopies.

In our school, most of the materials used are in softcopy. But just like you, i still prefer hardcopies for reading. Honestly, i can't really remember anything when i read it from the computer. I need to write it down, or print it in order for me to absorb what I am reading.
