Are you a hoarder like me?
I am an absolute pain for my mom since my childhood for I would not part with my stuffs, even a broken armed bald doll or a defunct minidiscman! It takes me ages to clear the clutters. Every time I wish to do it on weekly basis, I just cannot part with my stuffs, however defunct they are! And guess, what when I really have to, I get nostalgic and it takes me ages to sort, store and clear the clutter.
What about you?

Hi Mou
well, i am not that fussy about things, if some thing is damaged and of no use, trust me before i do anything my mom throw it away. and same happened with my wardrobe and shoes, i am looking for shirt or some trouser and then i came to know that Mom gave it to some one already. and now my wife is doing same
So i need not to worry about it,
take care

Hey mimpi! It's so nice to hear that there's someone worse
them me! I'm not quite as bad as you are! I have finally
broken my habit of keeping all my junk! When my boyfriend
moved in he made me clean out my apartment after 28 years
of living here! I was having the apartment painted so it was
time and I did it! I felt good sort of! I now have gotten
into the habit of not buying little nic nacs! It feels alot
better to not have so much junk all over and I do have a bit
more room! You should try it!

Two small cupboards, 3 boxes and inumberable pieces of paper, scraps and other collectibles, was my inventory list as of the stock check done a month back.
And then it took me a whole day just to go through them, sort them out, throw out the junk and then realise i found something which i could not find when i wanted to and then mixed it up again. Then i'd sit and daydream and remeber those days and why this was still here with me. Dinky cars still part of that collections and an old plastic playset. My nephew finds them too outdated.

You are right. No one really understands those fond memories and i do not even try explaining it to them. There was a old toy car given to me by my grandfather, which dissapeared a year ago, and i could not help but get upset as it had some very fond memories. The response i got was what are you collecting that junk for.
They do not understand. Nobody does.

Old plastic playsets....I still have my doctor set. They are in no way playable except for my undefined pleasure which no one would understand. I do not expect also, its b\very special, my wee little corner, my memories.
I pretty much go through the same plight as yours while cleaning up. They are not clutters but my lucky charms in many ways, but who would understand!

Both me and my wife were great hoarders. I would push something up into the attic just in case I needed it one day. My wife would hoard things that she felt reminded her of a past event. They all went up into the attic. Last year we had to clean it out because we were selling our house. It took days and days to get stuff down that we have never even looked at since we put them up there. With discipline, we threw most of it away, gave some away to charity and sold some on Ebay. It wasn't easy, but we have quit hoarding now. I think! :-) Derek

Nope, I don't keep those. We keep paper bags though from shopping and from friends. We like paper bags because they're nice. Some are very pretty that it's sad to throw them out. Plus we get to reuse it when giving gifts to others or when we just need to carry something in the mall, in the airport, in school, etc. We also collect plastic bags to use in the trash. That's about it...

Oh my gosh! I am the biggest pack rat of all time. I can find a reason to keep anything. You should see my closet. I bet I still have clothes in there from my childhood. I tell my husband all the time if he wants something cleaned out (a drawer, closet, etc), to please do it without me. Because if he asks me about any article, I will want to keep it. I used to think I had a hard time throwing things away (or giving away things) because we didn't have very much when I was growing up. But honestly, I don't know what it is that makes me that way. I just think that anything out of style will come back in style, anything too small I will lose the weight to wear, anything too big I will gain enough weight to wear.... And everything holds a memory that I just can't bear to depart with!! The last thing that I finally parted with was a bag of scrap material. I thought, "I don't need this. I never use this. I'll just throw it out." Guess what happened? After it was gone I needed some scraps that were in that bag! My kids are just like me, too.

You are so like me! I can relate to you totally. I just cannot part with my stuffs in fear of needing those some day and then there are others which have memories. so either way I would hoard it up!

I am more or less like you and I also find it difficult to clear the old and unused items. I also feel sometimes that I might require them later. If I change the pencil cell say of a torch.......I do not throw them away immediately, thinking that it might work again for some other device...........LOL! I know we should not hoard things like this, because there is always scarcity of space in our houses and keeping unused items for a long period, does not help us or say does not serve any useful purpose. We should immediately part with such things, when they become useless, so as not to make our store room full of these things.
Good Post!

I know what you mean because I have been there. I just cannot part with my old things but given that we have to mostly due to space problem I find it difficult to sort among the hordes!
Here's something that I wrote long back:

Yes, we need to be bit disciplined not to dump things every now and then. If we remain careless in this respect, it is we who suffer in the long run.
I've read your master-piece on AC and I also posted my comments at that time.

I hoard books, magazines and ...pens. I had at one time a collection of about 150 different types of ink pens and ball pens. My nephew managed to get his hands on the collection after I got married and lost all of them. After that I did not clutter anything because my kids were around to do the needful. But for the past few weeks I have been sneaking pens into my cupboard again!

So your kids have inherited it from you! Good thing they did! Some things are sweet when you are not the one who has to clean the clutters and have enough place to store it!

Heya^_^
I am definitely a hoarder, a packrat, a mole, whatever you may call it. I keep all of the wrappings on my Christmas gifts. Id be careful not to destroy the wrapping too much and after Ive taken out the gift inside, Ill try to reconstruct the wrapping as it was before I got the gift inside. I still have my very first rag doll. My Mom kept it, I played with it when I got a bit older, then Id just put in on one of my display cabinets. Most of my childhood toys are still in a cabinet somewhere. I also still have my elementary school books and notebooks.^_^
Believe me or not I also still have my childhood clothes/shirts and I still use them. One used to be just the right size but now its a bit short on the midriff.LOL Still covers everything up though.^_^
Anyway, I also keep everything and cleaning/clearing them up is a tedious task since I already have so many. In the end I only part with only a few things and still keep most of it.^_^

I am nostalgic to a point but every so often I go through things and get rid of stuff. A good way to keep the memories is to line them up, and take photos of them or scan them (if they are like tickets, etc.).
It just becomes more of a nightmare and it is much easier to have them all in a book or saved on CD so you can look back. Memories will either be there or not and I like living without too much clutter. It makes less stress in my life.

You are quite welcome. As I get older, I want to do less work!! LOL Therefore, I devise ways to make life easier and being organized always does that. You never have to go crazy looking for things. As my grandmother, repeatedly, "A place for everything, everything in it's place."

I have become better about getting rid of things I no longer use, over the years. I come from a long line of pack rats. I think it is an inherent gene or something. I used to save everything, and from the looks of my closets, I still do. *L*
I have taken everything out of that closet I don't know how many times, and still, it looks like a very small thrift store.
My garage looks like a bigger version of my closet.
It's not that I particularly want to keep any of it, I just don't have the energy or courage to go through it all and see what is actually there, and what needs to be gone. Seriously, it is a scary thought, and I go into a panic everytime I think about it!
Maybe I am a little claustrophobic?

Trust me, my closet is as good as yours Bo! lol..
I just cannot clear the clutter, fearing that how will i manage and how long it will take and i could never finish it the same day! And then there's that emotional hangover...

For me, I don't think there is anything I couldn't let go of, emotionally, in there. I just know I can't get it done in a day, and I don't want the stuff all over the bedroom when I get ready to go to bed at night.

I'm not a hoarder, mimpz, even when I was at my home country and when I see some things that I don't need it, I'd give to somebody right away, but to be honest many times I'd realize that I will need them in time and wished that I didn't give it. The only stuff I'm collecting at the moment is those plastic bags from the supermarket because I used it in the bin, lol. Maybe when we get to Australia, I will start to keep things because you'll never know when you need them.

I know what you mean Cjay. having seen my sister who has been living a life of nomads since marriage scares the idea of hoarding. She has gotten used to giving away things to others and also she is now less concerned about hoarding the stuffs that she should even. I think, life teaches people many things. I see myself no where near, but then I have been living in the same house since forever! I think, you would be more concerned when you get to settle down in a place for a longer time.
And BTW, plastics come in handy, and ask me before throwing them...

Hi, my name is Saintanne and I'm a hoarder. (You're supposed to say hello back to me in unison.)
I like collecting cards, office supplies that I barely used, paper bags especially the bigger ones I seem to have an affection for, underwear that I may never get to used again, reams of computer paper I could recycle, usable restaurant leftovers containers, condiments, recipes...

I am a hoarder of cables, every time i buy something that comes with a cable (mobile phone, Tv, camera etc) I will put the cable in a box and use one that i already have. So i have a box full of cables - especially for mobile phones. where I have not got the phone but still have the cable for the phone - even though it wont fit anything else I own--"Just in case"

Next time you start a question think of the consequences..... lol

Hi mimpi dear! I used to be a hoarder, never threw anything that is sentimental to me, even a used table napkin that my "crush" wrote on I kept it but when I got married, everything has changed. i became the organizer, the garbage collector and would wish to clean up the storage room anytime if I can. I am married to the worst hoarder I have ever met. He even hoards rusty nails which I can't understand why. lol..I think that I was beaten in my game and all I want now is to throw all his hoarded stuffs! lol..In My Dreams!
Take care and have a great day!

You know what, since you mentioned this, i think my father is the worst hoarder ever hoarding everything paper bits and any pin possible! that annoys me a lot! I think, we all live in the world where 'my stuff is memories and others' are junks.' And he must be feeling the same way i feel for his clutters!!
