Yes, it would be best to update your antivirus even if it miss to detect remove other virus. For usb mass storage, I think you need usb disk security for detecting autorun. It works great with avg, mcafee and bitdefender.

I use AVIRA antivirus the free version, and it automatically updates by itself so I dont have to update it, I think thats good because if I forget it will remind me or it will just update itself. if your interested in switching go to Cnet.com. all the latest free antivirus software's are there to download.

New viruses are added to the internet everyday. If your computer is connected to the internet, there is every possibility of new viruses getting into your system. Anti viruses updates contain the healing method for the newly detected viruses. The more updated your anti virus software is, more secure is your computer.
I usually update my anti virus software about every 15 days. Updating it daily keeps my internet connection engaged. Also, updates are released after intervals of few days, not everyday.

It is important to set your anti-virus to update automatically. It will update its virus definition file whenever there is an update becomes available. The new updates are installed very often when as soon they are created.
In case your anti virus doesn't update automatically, you should run update at least twice a week to keep yourself updated with up to date antivrus program

YES!
It is advisable to update your anti-virus daily. So that it can counter new viruses.
The more updated your anti-virus is,the more protected your system is.
Don't be too complacent with viruses, they can crash your system in an instant.

When I had a slower laptop I'd do it once a week. I guess it all boils down to your connection, if you have broadband I would leave the computer on all night and do all my updates, file purge, and defrag all night long. then it's ready to go in the morning. That's how i have it set up now and it works great. But if you can only hook up during the day time,I'd set it up to do I automatically while I was at lunch or at A time I knew I wouldn't be needing it! Hope this helps you! Have a good one! tdemex!

My antivirus updates everytime a new component is available for it
there's no need for me to manually update
but if you have an antivirus that doesn't do that you could make 2 updates a week
depending now how much threats you believe your computer can catch
