my cell phone, my LIFE!

Most people nowadays, especially teenagers, seem to find it rather difficult to live without their cell phones. With the frequent innovation of such technology, we somehow depend almost our whole lives on these tiny devices that contain important dates and events on our calendars, contact details of friends and family, email, photos, and other important documents that we need on hand everywhere we go...
The thing is, it has now become more than a need. Teenagers have started to skip meals just to save money to buy credits or to pay for their phone bills. Some set aside more important stuff to be able to afford the top-of-the-line mobile phone that has just come out in the market.
Don't you think these cell phones have taken over our lives? Are they now more important than our daily bread? Have you ever felt that you wanted to go back to the "good old times" when we can have peace and quiet at home or while we're on vacation without our cell phones ringing in our pockets or purses every 5 minutes?

Yes this is most DISADVANTAGE of Cellphone.
As example of mine - whenever i going on leave from office always boss or staff calling me and same tension of office running in my mind.
So normally when i not want to touch with my office i keep silence or switch off.

I know cellphones are essential for keeping in touch with family, friends and co-workers at any given time, but isn't there a time when you just want some peace and quiet so you can spend some relax time all by yourself? ^^

i don't depend much on cellphone..it only teaches me how to become a bit lazy but you know the fact cellphone is a great help to us....one of the big advantages of cellphone is the emergency call specially if one of your love one needs your help...so you may get in touch with him/her immediately...

I agree. I think that is the true purpose of cellphones - for us users to be able to contact somebody especially whenever there's an emergency without having to go through the inconvenience of finding a payphone.

Well,i have to admit my cellphone is a important thing to me.If i leave it someday home.I'll be so worried,it's a trouble. But i dont think i cannot live without cellphone. It's a little exaggerating.

Actually I don't think its exaggeration at all! ^^ A lot of people feel all uneasy whenever they leave their cellphones at home, knowing that their officemates, friends, or family might have to contact them anytime. In fact, I sometimes feel uncomfortable leaving my phone at home more than I would be if I left my wallet. Haha.

I absolutely agree. Just recently, I seen a friend whom I haven't seen in months and the whole entire time, she was on the phone and if not, it was ringing. It was really frustrating because we didn't get to spend much time together.
Times are really tough right now but even though I am a teenager, I believe that all teens should start out with prepaid phones. I learned that way, it teaches you to reserve your time on your phone for important calls rather than unimportant things.

Regarding prepaid phones, I also think its best for teenagers to start with that so they will learn to control the amount of time they use their phones for calls or texts. However, as I have mentioned in my discussion, some teenagers still aren't disciplined enough to reserve these for important matters. Some would rather save up their lunch money to purchase credits for their phones. And as for your friend, you said it! It really becomes frustrating. I even experience this with my dad, and I especially get irritated when people keep calling him about work while he's having lunch with us on a Sunday.

i think cell phone is a important think in life...it has many advantages and disadvantages...if we use in the constructive purpose it is of great use...we shouldn't money on cell phones..by making unwanted calls to friends or chat with them..

It is important.. I guess some people just tend to abuse it in some way. Everything in life must be kept in moderation, and we must have enough discipline to use it as needed. And I just wanna stress the point that we should not sacrifice more important things if the intended use of these cellphones are rather unnecessary. =) thanks for the rep. happy lotting..^^

I have a cell phone that goes everywhere with me and a laptop that I doubt I could live without but I do realize that sometimes these things can take over our lives at the expense of more important things like friends and family. I write from home so, as you can imagine, I am on the computer a lot and I became aware of the extent of how much I allow technology to take over my life when my little daughter walked up to me one day with a sad face while I was typing away and began to ask me when I would be getting off the computer to play with her and I told her to hush so I could answer my cell phone; by the time I finished the phone call she was in tears. I learned a lesson that day and, yes as much as I rely on my phone and PC I do wish for the good old days sometimes, just not often enough!

AS Bob Dylan wrote, Oh, the times are a changin.
It doesn't seem possible now to go back to the good old days as that is what these are to the children of the future.
When they get old they will talk about the good old days with their cell phones and how they used to call each other at lunch break when they both went to the same school.
I carry two cell phones with me all the time and I use them for much more than just making phone calls.
Crocket.

Yeah I totally agree with you.
I had a cell phone for the first time when I was about 16, and I raised up the bill up to $300.00 on my FIRST MONTH...I mean, texting, IM'ing, pic Msging, ringtones, wallpaper...anything you would expect a teen to do with their 1st phone right? :( (LOL!)
But now a days I don't really find a need for a cell phone, and I've noticed that teens would rather skip a meal than not use their phone. My little sister has had her Sidekick taken away numerous of times at school for using it during class, and I don't seem to understand why she finds the need to use it in class! I mean, aren't you going to see your friends in a matter of 20 min. in the hallways anyways?? /vent over lol
Sidekicks, Blackberrys, iPhones, G1's and much more...these phones are making these teens go crazy! I mean...who spends $300 on a phone??? Seriously.

I do have 5 cellphones in the house. Three for me, 1 for my husband, and 1 for my daughter. But i am not into buying loads because i am not much into texting. Just whenever I feel like texting or replying to my friends, that's the time i am loading my sim. There are promos too that I am receiving free loads because of overseas calls that i am receiving everyday. So, not really in need for me to buy loads.. hehehhhee.. I prefer to talk over the landline, so I'll be getting a straight answer rather than to wait for a response. When I am out of the house, that's the time I prefer for texting so I can use my loads to the fullest... lol^^

most of the teenagers nowadays are so crazy about their cellphone just to call or text or just get in touch with friends and lovers. but when you get to the point that you will just grow out of it and you will not be crazy about that. I think it is good whenever you have someone interesting that you to text or talk to over your cell phone. but I guess the technology nowadays keep on updating and upgrading each day that would pass by. new cell phone models, new features, new specs...

I honestly feel very disappointed on how fast models are being upgraded nowadays... Especially if you have saved up a lot of money to get a model that you really, really liked because of all its features that you know you can take advantage of, and then the next thing you know, your cellphone is already outdated. =( Although I know that the latest high-end models practically give you a large number of different electronics rolled into one little handy device that could make your life a whole lot easier, I've learned to control myself from buying them. As long as my cellphone serves its purpose - texting and calling, that is - I'm pretty much contented with it.

Most teenagers I know have their parents pay for their (ridiculously expensive) cell phone bills (and so it's the parents having to cut back on the necessities in order to pay for their child's bills).
Phones definitely HAVE taken over our lives, or at least mine. I just bought an iPhone, and before that I had a Sidekick2 - and you can literally do EVERYTHING on it. You can text, take phone calls, listen to music, watch videos & tv shows, get directions, write notes, schedule events, do math, go online, and sooo much more. It's ridiculous how much these phones are capable of! But also totally convenient. I mean, why by several separate electronics if you can do everything on one compact phone? We might as well take advantage of what amazing things technology has to offer us. :)
I agree with you on the simplicity thing, for sure (although I enjoy my technology). It's annoying when you are trying to spend quality time with a friend or family member - and ALL of their focus is on their phone (this ESPECIALLY goes with teenagers - who CANNOT stop texting! I know from experience). It definitely makes you feel rejected (which is never good).

I myself have been a victim of such an amazing creation. ^^ However I did feel that I lacked discipline in using it until I realized that I do have a life apart from my phone. I became abusive, I spent so much on my phone bill, I was texting and calling even when I was working. There was never a time then that you would see me without my cellphone in my hand. I guess everything is good as long as people have discipline in using things. And yes, I also find it terribly annoying to talk to people who can't stop texting!

nowadays, cell phones is kind of extra life for every people. but, many people is stuck in their cell phones every day. they don't socialize, read a book, play sport, etc. i think, when people have forgot about that kind of activity, they will more lazy than usually. so, i think when people got cell phones, they musn't use it for a long time.

I never have left the good ole times as far as cell phones go. I really never even had a desire for one. I do know what you mean. I watch my daughters and the money they spend on their phones...just to talk to people and text people....most of whom they see regularly anyway. I do see that they could be handy. I just recently got a track phone to keep with me as I travel out of town and late at night for my work. I don't use it just to chat so it is practical for me. ONe of my girls recently had her cell get shut off due to the fact she could not pay it. she went and got a trac phone and it is so costly for her...not worth it in my thinking.

For me, mobile phone is a must gadget. It's one of the most essential gadgets nowadays. I've had my first cellphone when I was 12 years old. It was a birthday gift from my aunt. I've wondered why she gave me that kind of gadget at a very young age. She briefly explained to me why. Your mobile phone can save your life. I mean, in case of emergency or if you're into trouble, you can simply dial the phone number of the hospital, police station, your family and your friend and ask for assistance.. mobile phones can't only be used to make phone calls and send text messages but it can also be used to take photos, send emails, etc..

One funny thing about science and their technology is that they solve problems by creating another. With the intention of solving our problems scientist have created almost all the problem existing today. When i was young all we had was send letters and wait for days befor we get reply. Yet we survived. Then we had time to do things that were creative. We spent our time doing things that will benefit our lifes. But now u don't need to send letters and children spend most of there time operating someone else invention(phone). If you look at it critically u'll c dt advance in tech has made us less effective in life and has actually increased poverty and joblessness. Where 10 people are used to working before, there is just one person there now with one sufisticated computer doing the work of the remainig 9. Instead of children to read there books and plan for future, they are busy calling friends and family and loved ones and they end up being poor.
Personally i don't let any tech rule me. I rule myself. I browse the internet only when i am less busy or when very nessary. I call or recieve calls when i feel like. Most time i off my set and i don't care if i am missing any important call.
Really it is how people of nowadays sees things that is causing the problem. The so called important calls are meant for the elderly not for kids. How can a 17yr old tel me he is expecting an important call? Or that there is an important programme he does not want to miss?.........IT QUIT UNFORTUNATE FOR THE YOUTH OF NOWADAYS!!!!!!Despite advance in tech we don't live long like the people of the olding days that is to tell u sth i wrong abt our way of life. Why won't a boy suffer from eye problem at the age of 50, when he has been staring at the screen of computers and tv and phone since he was 4yrs old? I it hurts me alot when i remember how rotten this world has become
