I really don't understand. I have a friend who is having computer difficulties. AGAIN!! This goes on every couple of weeks. And when this computer S-l-o-w-s down, crashes etc. my hubby gets a call. Then he goes and cleans up the ancient mess. This computer is 8+ years old. My hubby has told our friend REPEATEDLY that it is time to buy a new one. Money isn't an issue, so I don't get it.

I totally get it. I'm one of those that clings to ancient computers for as long as I'm allowed to. Hubby refuses to let our puters get more than 5 years old though, but I hate upgrading. Upgrades have never done anything positive for me or my computers. Now adays the only computers you can buy come with Vista. Hubby's puter has Vista. I won't get Vista to save my life. My current puter is only 2 years old, but I pray I never have to upgrade again!

I am planning to get another computer soon; one that doesn't take up the entire space of my cheap, Family Dollar desk lol. But when I get it, I am going to wipe it entirely, then install XP on the sucker. I may play around with Vista for a minute, but that is what I like, and there are too many problems with Vista anyway.

Honestly, my husband's vista isn't horrible now that he's gotten used to it. It does all the same things my computer does, and he has no problems with it really. I'm just not ready for an upgrade. As I said, I hate upgrading.

I don't get that either, I mean I still have an OOOOLLLLDD computer but I can't afford to get a new one right now. I wish I could have the money to be able to get a new one, well I charged a laptop onto my credit card, but now I kind of regret it.

I believe in buying a new computer every few years. I like new computers. I get all twitchy without them.

It is a factor of change. That person doesn't want to have to get used to a newer system. Also, considering they put Vista on most systems now days they have probably heard the bad stuff about it, so it has turned them off from it. Another factor is that if it is eight years old my guess is they have Windows 98 or Windows 2000/Nt, or Windows Me. Now, these three systems while alike in many areas, are quite different from Vista.

Maybe she likes the attention she gets from your great husband? Maybe if he refused to come over until she gets another one she will finally listen. I know how it is to have an old one I have one that is older then 8 I it was made in 1995 which makes it 14 years old it still works but it is slow and crashes alot.

well, my father also had a computer that had already more than 10 years old now and he doesn't want my brother to change it for him as well... i think it is because he had become so comfortable with that particular computer and doesn't want to bother to learn new things... also, my father doesn't use much of his computer... so may be your friend is the same type like my father... take care and have a nice day...

I think your friend just like maximized what she or he have spend having that computer and doesn't want to let go for now. It could be that she just waiting for it to die or totally crash before buying a new one. There are just people that would like to maximized what they have spend for. I just hope one day she will realized that computers doesn't last long and it needs constant upgrading. Hoping so....

Maybe it has sentimental value or he/she doesn't have budget to buy a new computer yet.. i've been using my laptop for three years and so far i've had no problems with it.. Yes, it's an old school laptop but i've got no plans of replacing it with a new one..

He doesnt want to adjust to new system, he is kind of person who likes to say in comfort zone. If so, just ask your husband to install deep freeze. Hopefully he wont call you hubby anymore. The software save the main configuration in operative system. Just googling and key in Deep Freeze.

well then it just seems to be complete laziness on your friends part. It may be a good idea to get a catalog that has computers and point out some good ones that he will be able to afford. Try and get the ball rolling for him.

Well, maybe your friend does not think it causes any influence on him using such a old computer. It just as some people can not understand why others like change a pair of different shoes per a day,but most people don't.It just a person's own habit.

If he really does not want to buy a new one and dont want to throw the already using computer means, he can upgrade his system with high RAM, 40 GM capactiy, only changing the monitor, or changing the operating system, etc. I think your hubby's friend does not want to change his computer means he may be having sentimental feeling.

Her husband is a cheapskate and says "the computer is fine, there is nothing wrong with it." So she may want to buy a new one, but stingy at her house does not want her to buy another one because he thinks computers are a waste of time. Maybe your husband should go over and talk to the old skin flint and tell him that he had better a new one because the repairs are costing more than getting a new one. On the other hand, your husband might look like a Greek or Nordic god --

Well, have you ever asked the friend why she doesn't get a new computer? Maybe the reason is deeper than you think. The computer itself may have sentimental value. Or the friend may just be stuck in their ways, resistant to change and doesn't want to learn a new computer. Maybe the friend has many things on the computer that she wants to keep, and doesn't know how a transfer would affect them. I would find out the reason she really won't get a new computer, and then try to reduce that fear. An alternative though is to tell your husband to tell your friend he can't fix it anymore, whether he can or not!
