Does it mean you don't like me ??

My star went from a 10 to a 9, does that mean someone on mylot rated me a negative? I don't know what I did. I don't remember saying anything mean to anyone....That's not the person I am! Or are you just jealous of me I hate knowing my star went down, because all I can think of is that someone here don't like me or they didn't like what I said about something and I really wish I knew what I said for someone to rate me not so good. I think mylot should tell you why your star went down. It's only fair isn't it? This is my reputation we are talking about here!!!

My star went down from 10 to 8 messageme...hope that makes you feel a bit better. lol. I guess it can't be avoided, we've come from different places here and we definitely perceive things in a different way. Maybe for you, it isn't offensive..but for someone else...it might be. Yeah, I kinda like that idea! Of you know, reasoning out first before you give a negative rate. That'll be good...so that we would be aware what we did that others didn't like. Cheer up messageme! I'm sure there are a lot of other myLotters here who likes you.

It just doesn't seem fair our star is dropped in ratings and we don't even get to know what we did wrong!

May I join the club? Mine has gone to an 8 (so far) too. Has it made a difference though? No because what's behind it is still the same as before. It has nothing much to do with reputation but a lot to do with people getting their kicks

It doesn't mean anything. I don't pay much attention to the star anymore. i did at first. But since I've been here awhile, and seen so many of the best writers with small numbered stars, I stopped looking at it. Someone may have rated you low for an answer, or some other reason. I wouldn't consider it as someone not liking you. I know mine goes up and down constantly. Sometimes I don't write much for an answer, and I'm sure that gets me rated negatively. Just keep writing, and doing your best, and don't pay attention to the star. Just write and enjoy the writing.

Hi snowcat.. First of all i thank you for your Strict comments on star. I just doing the same.. doing my posts and enjoying.. I had seen many talented guys with even 7 or 8 stars. Means they are not highly talented? and messageme, for you.. I too do the same.. whenever i saw a new user, first i will see their postings and then their ratings(as ratings denotes the reputation) I think that reputation doesn't carry the real reputation of one user. Some are overrated and some are underrated. better my lot can announce like this.. The number of postings as our reputation.. & the star ratings for our quality of post.. But even then, we have prob with star ratings from "Ego" users.. anyway, don't worry for your loss.. you'll get your star rating soon..

Thanks for the advice! The star is always the first thing I look at when I meet someone I don't know. I guess I have always looked at it, if your star has a low number it means you are a not so nice person. But lately it seems people are in here that are here just for the purpose of being mean to others, so yeah maybe I shouldn't look at the number in the star. It just made me wonder what I did wrong.

Oh! Dear! Please do not feel so perturbed or disappointed by change in your star rating. It happens with many of us and it has happened with me twice, when my blue star turned red i.e. I went from 10 to 9. You need not scratch your head for change in status of your star and your reputation, it may be due to many factors, not alone due to any negative rating(s) by any member. Sometimes, some of the older posts or objectionable posts get deleted, to which you would have responded, in that case, your ratings get effected. Please do not worry, if you continue in the same fashion and work with full honesty and dedication in your posts, you will regain your position. And the most important I must share with you that our ratings has no connection with our earnings, your earnings will remain intact, irrespective of your star rating. So please cheer up and smile. All the best. Deepak

Yeah, I don't know why that happens, I think there are some on here that might be jealous, and they just want to see something happen to you, especially if your a nice person and never get in trouble with anyone. I think they should tell you why your rating went down also..Have a good day

I think it just means that some people enjoy using the rating system to get back at people who's opinions they disagree with or discussions they dont like, I dont like messing with mylotters ratings thats why I never rate people negatively I only give positive ratings or I give none at all, because I dont like to do anything to make someones rating go down, and if I disagree I just dont rate.

Even if I don't agree with someone I still give them a positive rating 1. for taking the time to respond 2. For being nice. Now if someone is down right rude and what they say has nothing to do with the discussion and they are only their to be mean to people then I will rate them negative. Thank goodness I don't have to do that too often, I think I have only done it once. I don't like to mess with peoples stars either. I look at it as they deserve a positive for taking the time to be here.

Oh I hope this isn't the case! I've had some conflicting viewpoints to the past few discussions I've responded to.. It's totally not fair for people to do that, I mean, after all - the whole point of discussions is to hear and understand both sides of the argument, not just the one you mostly agree with, don't you think?

I made the mistake of talking in the political discussion that's why I dropped like a lead balloon. And I even tried for neutral. Oh well. Atleast I know what I did. I figure people will get to seeing my pretty face around here and start showing some love. I can hope, right? I guess I may have to curb my open answers to things... Nah, on second thought where would the fun be in that?

now that you mention it, I did respond to a discussion about Obama and it didn't agree with the person that started the discussion. Plus people have such different opinions about him. It wouldn't surprise me if that is where I got the negative from! Never thought of that. Thanks for the reminder Political ones can be very opinionated and have people with such strong feelings and if you don't agree with them then yeah I can see them rating badly!

Well, it would be dumb of someone to rate you negative just for not agreeing with them. I don't. I think it's a ok to give + to someone who makes there point well (even if I disagree), no comment on others, and a - for those who act like jerks. So if it was my politics you disagreed with... unless you acted like a jerk, it wasn't me.

Personally I sometimes think that this Star thing is over rated, and some people in here have used it as a Power trip. I know there are many in here who are not a "10", that I feel should be, and personally why are there people just because they disagree with someone go around rating them negative? Personally unless someone is Spamming the system in here, they do not deserve a Negative in here, and I feel sometimes that one is way over used for sure.

who knows. i'm sure alot of people don't like what i say as u can see my star is down to 7 & has been forever. i do think u should be informed as to why this happens but u aren't .first time it happened i sent mylot a message asking why but i never got an answer. if u don't know what u have done wrong u will probably keep doing it & not know u are. i learned a long time ago u can't please everyone & it's the same on mylot. don't worry about it. there is nothing u can do about it that i know of.

I try not to worry too much about the rates. Also not to get disappointed cause people are different, have different thoughts and opinions. And there are people here that rates you negatively if they don´t agree with you. This doesn´t mean you´re a bad person or did something bad. Just means that you are in a place with thousands of different minds. You know, don´t worry. Not even Jesus pleased everybody!

I don't think that your star went down because of negative rating. I think it might just be that you are not writing as many dicsussions, I think that I have been fluxuating a lot in my ratings but I try to keep up as much as I can. I hope that you are able to raise your rating again, I know I'll vote for you,LOL.

What the heck does this thing mean? I don't get it either! I'm pretty sure yesterday I didn't even have a star and now I have a star that has a "5" on it. So the higher the star, the better? And I don't think most people even pay attention to their stars or what stars other people have. :/

You probably didn't have a star yesterday. You don't get a star til you hit 100 posts and then when you get one it starts at 5. Your star is your reputation rating. I always look at it (other than those that just got their star) if you have a low rating, I take it as you are not a very nice person or you have said a lot of things people don't like. It don't take long for your star to go up if you just got it as long as you are nice to people and rate others and their discussions either postive or negative.

Hello there! Forgive my ignorance but I still don't understand how we get all these colorful stars next to our usernames so I guess it doesn't really matter if I get a 1 or 9 in there. Anyway, I am sorry that you are so disappointed about your star points. Don't worry about it. Maybe somebody just made a mistake or something.

It is a matter of different perceptions on an issue by different people. It is not that somebody hates you and intentionally gives a lesser rating to bring down the star rating. Star rating is not a comment on your reputation. Keep posting and stop taking this thing to your heart.

Based on my experience, it could be due to more than one reason. I experienced it twice. Each time after I gave my opinion on sensitive topics. It seems that there is a group of people who talk about democracy, freedom of expression, tranparency, and possibly other similar words, who do not practice what they preach. Someone giving an opinion which they dislike and immediately they give a negative rating to the post, and other posts too. Since there is more than one of them and they attack more than just that particular opinion, the total rating drops. I have experienced this on other sites too. Avoid paying attention to this. The more you worry, the less you can concentrate on giving your best. IF this happens then they have won on two fronts. all the best in your postings, rosdimy

I agree, that what you said could be the reason. I have realized it's not something I should worry about. There are many here who know me to the point I don't think they would consider my star rating going down is going to affect the caring person that I am. When I first seen it I was just dissapointed that I may have offended someone without even knowing it. After starting this post someone brought to my attention discussions I may have responded to that people didn't like my opinion. President. Enough said right? Not everyone has the same views on him and people probably didn't like my view. Thanks for your response!
