I ever use Symantec, AVG, Kaspersky and Avast.
I quit using Symantec when having a trojan attack that crashed my PC, I have to reinstall my Windows XP to recover it. Then I'm using AVG, but uninstalled it as it falsely detect some windows file as a virus. I switch to Kaspersky 2008, but this software is too much annoying while we executing programs or browsing the net.
My recent antivirus is Avast, eventhough it's not a user friendly and I still have a win32 trojan that crashed my PC again :( I think overall, Avast is better than my previous anti viruses.
What's your experience in using antivirus software ?

I used AVG and Avira Anti virus to protect my PC in my home. Suddenly, my PC became slower and slower, I can not stand with it. Then I went to the shop and ask them what happened to my computer. They said that the computer became slower because I wrongly installed more than one anti virus in one PC. What they did is unistall AVG and let my avira installed.Until now, I use free avira anti virus and update it every week. I think Avira is pretty good to detect viruses in my USB (otomatically).
I don't want to buy Karpersky because it's too sensitive. The alert is very noisy and make me unable to focus in my job.

But you are not supposed to use 2 anti-virus programs!
It will crash or corrupt your computer.

Yes, you shouldn't use 2 antivirus at the same time, it's just like having two same medication with different brands on your body. I mean, it will afflicted one to another, and it will slow your computer. But I'm glad that the problem was resolved, hope Avira will always work well on your PC :)

I have tried several free versions on my personal computer with different results. AVG is generally good but is still lacking in certain areas. Avast is better while Avira sometimes give out false positives. I am currently using the free version of Comodo Internet Security together with Avast.
My daughter's laptop came with pre-installed Norton. Many viruses made her laptop their home and slowed it down. Norton was uninstalled. AVG and Avast were successful in removing most of the viruses. Several stubborn viruses were removed with Portable ClamWin. It is slow, but deleted the offending codes.
all the best,

I use Norton Internet Security 2009. I am very happy with it. Even with a lot of people complaining about Norton, I've never had any problems with it, so that's what I've almost always ran for my security software. The 2009 version is a lot faster and uses less memory than previous versions as well, so I think it's even better than before. I have also used Avast in the past, and that worked very well also. The only one that I used that I had problems with was McAfee. McAfee is not a very good antivirus program and it constantly gets bad reviews.

I do agree that Norton has a high price when not on sale, but if you happen to have Staples stores where you live, they have it for free after rebate until the beginning of Sunday. That's where I got mine.

Hi Lusirafa,
Currently I am using the free personal version of AVG.
I have been using it for years and I do not get any virus attack, probably due to my careful choice of websites too.
It was not satisfactory earlier on as it kept turning out false positives. Though this has not happened for a while, I don't seem to like it as much (though my computer is still fine).
Hopeful a better free alternative will pop up soon.

Kaspersky, it is probably the best and easiest to integrate software. You basically install it and never look at it again. I used to work for Geek Squad so i know a thing or two about antivirus software, and I would say that Kaspersky is the best out there. It is not the cheapest though there are lots of almost equal in quality programs that are alot cheaper.

Currently I use AVG free antivirus. But I just feel it is sort of redundant to my computer. I am running Vista and it is already quite good in terms of security. It has windows defender to scan for spyware and so many layers of protection (in the cost of slow performance). What I experienced with AVG is that it doesnot detect automatically when there is a trojan attack. I still need to run with Yahoo!spy to detect the trojan.

I like Kaspersky anti virus. That's the anti virus that I have been using when I started to use Windows Vista x64. I could ask for anything else than this. It's not annoying and it's not hungry for resources so that a good thing if you don't have a very nice specs for your pc. It is a light software for your memory. I hate AVG because virus are still can get in to you pc. Well you can't blame AVG because it is a free anti virus. Avast is resources hungry and also goes with Symantec. This is only my opinion.
