I was just wondering if anyone else was diagnosed with this? I had my tubes tied in August of 2007, and about 4 months later I started noticing major differences in my cycles, so I talked with my doctor who assured me things would go back to normal with in 6 months of having them tied... Needless to say it didn't only got worse. So she finally diagnosed me with PTS... if there is anyone out there that has this, please tell me how do you cope? I am about to go nuts with everything, it's driving me batty..

I had my tubes done because I didn't want to have any more kids. I had been talking to people who had it done and the same thing, their cycles would improve after having it done.
I went ahead with it, hoping mine would do the same. It didn't. It got worse after 6 months later of having my tubes done. I started a diary and marked all the days I was bleeding. After 2 months since starting the diary, I went to the doctors to show the diary and told my doctor I was becoming depressed. I asked if I could get a hysterectomy done. My doctor gave me a referral. I got it done 15 months after having my tubes tied. I never looked back. I have been happy for 3 and half years.
This is only an option. Think about it carefully because it is a big decission and there is no turning back. If you have doubts, don't even go ahead with this option until you are 110% sure that you don't want to have any more kids for the rest of your life. It is your life and it is totally up to you with what you decide. Even talk it over with your doctors and see what they say, if you want. Remember, your body, your decission.
I was 32 when I made up my mind I didn't want to have any more kids. The day before my 33rd birthday, I had my tubes tied. What a wonderful birthday present. Lol. At 34, hysterectomy.

Hey Chookie, My husband and I have discussed having a hysterectomy because he hates to see me suffer threw my monthly mess. I've been to 3 doctors and so far none seem to think it's medically needed for our insurance to pick it up, and at the present time i can't afford it out of pocket.
I got my tubes tied because we knew we was done having kids, there was no way i could go threw another pregnancy due to medical conditions I get while pregnant. i wasn't putting my life on the line for another child...
thanks for taking the time to comment.

Shame that you were not in australia. I showed my doctor my diary and told her that I would cry every time I see the colour red. I was suffering depression from it. She said you shouldn't be suffering like this. It was so easy
The only thing I could suggest is to keep a diary of all that you go through regarding your cycle. Even write down, even how you feel. If you try and make it sound really bad some one would have to help you. After all, you do have your tubes done.
I think the doctors my be reluctant because of your age. If hysterectomy is what you want, then don't give up. I will support you all the way if you want moral support.

Post Tubal Syndrome (PTS) is hard to deal with.
I have hot flashes, cold sweats, clamminess, there's times when my heart just beats out of control, rapid and fast. I have horrible massive uncontrolable cycles. A few days before mine is to start, I get horrible cramps, some feel worse than contractions. The migraines kick in, and then once I do start my cycle, I would rather curl up and die than have to go threw that because it's miserable. Cramps are to the extreme, huge blood loss and pass a large amout of clots, not normal sized ones either. To control this, I must use an over night pad, and a super plus tampon threw the 10 to 12 days. It's miserable.
I wasn't informed of when I had my consultation for my tubal, or I'd given it alot of thought. Most women that i'd talked with had no problems with having their tubal done. The only way to reverse these symtoms is to have a tubal reservsal which most insurance companies (including mine) will not cover.
Other symtoms I've expericenced is dry itchy skin, to where i scratch so bad i make it bleed because there's no controling it. I have major muscle aches and pains sometimes so bad I can't hardly get up off the couch, then there's i guess what you'd call like stabbing under the skin, feels like theres someone taking an ice pick to your body and just stabbing away..

My sister in law got her tubes and experienced the same symtoms you just described to LuckyLadyD. It has changed alot about her her moods and all.And she also has a harder time losing weight also since she had her tubes tied. And her symtoms didn't get bettter either and it has been little over a year now.

No, wish things had gotten better. Not many people have heard of this because it's one of those things that are left out of telling women who are about to have their tubes tied that this could happen to them. I asked questions but apparently not the right ones because I didn't learn about this until months after hearing things will go back to normal and this and that, it took a while for a doctor to actually listen that something wasn't right. I am currently waiting out my time until the insurance company will cover for the sugery to have things taken out because I am done having children, another birth wouldn't be healthy for me, and that was why I opted to have my tubes tied at 26.
Thanks for commenting and showing concern, have a great weekend!

I had mine tied in Dec. 07' and I have to say that I have noticed the symptoms of PTS and have looked it up on my own. Just like you my doctors and nurses told me that things would even out, but here it is over a year later and things are NOT evening out. My cycles are whacked and at one point I even got a positive pregnancy test result after being 7 days late! I had the blood work done only to reveal that I was NOT pregnant just that my estrogen levels were all out of sorts. I don't go back to see my OB until June and I am definitely going to bring this up with him. For now I just try not to get TOO crazy when my "Aunt Flo" is due and deal the best way I can. BRANDY helps a lot! In a hot cup of tea, hmmm mmm! :)

I thought mine would go back to normal, I didn't have a bad one all threw my younger years, and even after my son, it was ok... but once I got my tubes tied, it hit. The hot flashes, the itchy skin, the migraines, mood swings, the mega blood clots, the heavy bleeding is so much to bear most months.
Yes, talk wtih your doctor, I talk to mine all the time but it's one of those things that PTS is something that many don't wanna diagnosis it because it all goes around the same as just normal PMS, it took me 4 doctors to finally label it.
