Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has made a promise to Mumbaites that henceforth all VIPs will be carried to their destination by helicopters after they arrive in the city. This will reduce the traffic jam on the city roads, which will not disturb the city dwellers’ routine rush and run. However, what about the cost aspect? How many helipads will have to be created? Secondly, what about the security cost during airlift? What do you feel about this?

Yes. The cost aspect is an issue. I think that in that old Reader´s Digest article they talked about using the roofs of buildings as helipads, but I don't imagine a business building with lots of different offices having place on its roof for more than half a dozen helicopters.

I think, there too apart from cost and feasibility, the major concern will be security. It is easy to locate and catch miscreants on road, but while flying, one or two firings are enough to destroy a helicopter. Especially, in a place like Mumbai, everything is possible.

I remember that many years before I went through a Reader's Digest from the WW2 years. There they talked about helicopters and said they would be the favourite transport in years to come. There was even a drawing of a city whose sky was full of helicopters. I thought it very funny. Perhaps now the time is coming when helicopters will be replacing taxis and remises.

Yah, today it's going to be a reality. But I am afraid about the cost part of it mainly. In these days of economic recession how will it go? That apart, there may be security issues and chances of sabotage. Don't you feel so?
