Man being suited for stopping illegals from coming onto his property

A Arizona Rancher is being sued by 16 illegal immigrants who he stoppped on his property who were using it to cross into this country illegally. They are asking for 32 million dollars. They accuse him of conspiring to violate their civil rights when he stopped them at gunpoint on his ranch on the U.S.-Mexico border. The rancher started rounding up illegals on his property in 1998 after a having his propetry damaged, his cows killed (which is his livihood), and his house broken into repeatedly by illegals that used his property as a crossing point. He detains them and then calls border agents to come and pick them up. Due to where his ranch is located it is a "choice location" for illegals to use when crossing into this country. So this rancher has had to deal with massive amounts of people doing damage to his property and business with no recourse. So what do you think about this? I do not think they have a case because "citizens arrests" are allowed in this country. We can arrest someone and detain them until the police arrive.

Oops, I just started a thread on the same issue. This guy is a hero who deserves a medal for defending this country and assisting our Border Patrol without asking for any compensation. How DARE this judge allow a $32 million dollar lawsuit against a man defending his property and his livestock? That judge needs to be removed from the bench.

That is ok. Great minds think alike ;) I know what you mean. He has the right to defend his property. He has a right to do a citizen arrest. I can not believe the case was excepted. Now the poor guy is going to have to spend money to defend himself. Hasn't he already had enough damage done to him. I am sure he has never been paid back for all the damage done on his ranch and livestock killed over the years. What about his rights? Sence when are the criminals the ones with all the rights?

Now that I think about it, if we're gonna play this cross-border lawsuit crap, this guy should be able to sue all the illegals that trespassed on his property. Get the Mexican authorities on the line. He should sue every single alien he's had deported for a combined total of $32 million plus legal expenses to recompense him for the trouble they've caused Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

Ah, man, you got to it before I did. I was going to post a thread on this. This entire incident makes me sick to my stomach with absolute fury. Since when has it been a civil right to sneak into the country and not get caught? They trespassed on his property, and while I'm not sure it's this particular group that did the damage, plenty of their ilk do. They have no right to be here illegally, and I find it laughable that they think they should have any civil rights. However, given the trend of pity towards illegals, I won't be surprised if the ruling is in their favor.

Poor guy! Doesn't it beat all that you can get sued by someone who was breaking into your property? I bet that poor man has rounded up more illegals than all the border patrol! Maybe they should hire him as a consultant. He should be careful though, some of those people might be armed and try to harm him.

That is just ridiculous. Why the hell should criminals be able to sue someone for those reasons? It really makes no sense. The lawyer certainly has no real hold on reality lol. Well I really hope the guy wins his case, illegal immigration is not cool. Plus it makes perfect sense why he would stop them at gunpoint since they could have been trying to kill his livestock again.

I think anyone has the right to defend their family, property and themselves with whatever means necessary. I once heard a story of a burglar who was suing the owner because the alarm on the house left him partially deaf!

Wow, this is really crazy! I was doing some research on this a couple of months ago and apparently it is really common for the illegal immigrants to force themselves into/take over people's homes. I have some family that live in Arizona, and after their house caught on fire and they had to leave, they had to have someone watching the house 24/7 because they said the illegal immigrants are like "vultures" and were waiting for the right moment to raid the house.

Personally I would think that the Rancher would win and that the illegals would not have any recourse to stand on in this situation as well. Because personally when someone is doing something illegal such as coming into the country illegally and even breaking into a person's home etc. this is uncalled for and deserves jail time. If the police are going against him it sounds like they could be being paid off to allow these people in as well.

They don't have a case I agree. Not only were they trying to come into the country illegally, but they were also trespassing on his private property. I don't blame him and I'd have likely done the same, whether legal for me to do so or not, but he was well within his rights. I hope those fools get deported and don't come back. I odn't mind immigrants, but Illegals are horrible and if they came on my property I'd probably shoot every one.

I congratulate him for doing that, my family would do the very same thing. If people are illegally coming into our country then we should be able to be our own militia in a way and get them out of here. I do not mind immigration, but if they are doing it the wrong way, and holding people up that are trying to do it the right way, then I am against that. I am sure a lot of people would be furious if the rancher got in trouble for doing that, I really do not think they have a case, and if they do, then I am not a citizen of the United States!

I say good for him for doing his part to stop these people from destroying his property and coming here illegally. I don't even know how he can be sued period! What judge would hear such a ludicrous case? Why is he not suing them for trespassing, vandalism, and damages? I think it is ridiculous how we are so worried about these illegals who are breaking the law, looking to come over here and get a free ride, and committing crimes in order to do it. I don't want people coming into this country who think it is okay to kill someone's livestock and break into someone's house!

If they're illegal how can they possibly have rights in our court system? How can they have any rights at all if they're illegal - the very definition states that they have already violated our laws?!
