When having a tossed or garden salad, which kind of dressing do you like the best? Do you always stick with that kind of dressing, or do you try something new regularly?
We're having salad with our soup and bread tonight, and as a dressing this week I chose "carmalized onion & bacon". A flavor the grocery store had and it sounded good.
1000 island is my favorite dressing, but I do like to change it up now and then, especially when we have salad frequently. Over the past month we've had French, Caesar, and Italian. I'm always interested in trying something out of the norm, but worried about whether or not the kids will like it. But at this point I have enough left over dressings from previous weeks that I can get anything I want this time, and if they don't like it they can have a different dressing.

We use Ranch dressing all the time. We use one name brand, but my husband decided to use a store brand and he says it tastes just like we have always used. I haven't tried it yet, so I don't know. My husband used to used absolutely nothing but Thousand Island, but hasn't used it in years. I used to never use anything, but got hooked on Ranch. We have salad 4 or 5 times a week. We love it. We had it last night and I'll fix some to go with dinner tonight.

We were having salad that often, but I couldn't keep up. With this many people, we'd go through salad fixings far too quickly, so now I'm down to only having salad on nights we have soup or pasta or something of that nature.

There are only the two of us, so it's not too bad, except for the tomatoes. I do like lots of things in my salad, but recently, it's been only lettuce and tomatoes. I usually have broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green pepper and my husband loves shredded cheese. I just forgot to get that at the grocery store other day although it was on my list!

I like all sorts of stuff in mine too, and I change it up a lot. Mushrooms, cheese (cubes or crumbles are best), hard boiled egg, sunflower seeds, garbanzo beans. You name it! But when I make salad for the whole family, I keep it down to just lettuce, tomatoe, and cucumber. Last week I did buy some black olives though because I was in the mood for them. I might go for some mushrooms next time for the heck of it.

hello katsmeow
was the carmalized onion and bacon salad dressing good? thanks for sharing. i have never heard of that kind of salad dressing before. i like to try all different kinds of salad dressings as well. my favorite salad dressing is bleu cheese dressing, followed by ranch and ranch salad dressing with bacon in it. then my last choice for a salad dressing would be italian. i do not care for thousand island salad dressing or do i like french dressing either. i have made my own salad dressings before using the package of salad dressing mix that you can purchase at the grocery stores. it is pretty good stuff too.
take care and have a beautiful evening.

The dressing was very good. I wasn't sure on the first bite, but it got better after that.

My absolute favorite dressing is Olive Garden's Italian dressing. It is the best. I also like Berry Vineagarette. If I have it though I like to add dried cranberries and slithered almonds. It just goes so perfectly together. Olive Garden's Italian Dressing is my number one pick though.

I love Italian, Caesar, and Vinaigrette dressings. I can't stand French or Russian dressing.

I like to try different kinds but I usually end up using Italian or some kind of vinaigrette. I really like raspberry vinaigrette on bitter tasting greens. The Greek stuff from Kraft is pretty good too. I like to use the three cheese ranch for dipping. French is also yummy. I would say my favorite type of salad is Caesar with all the trimmings - bacon, parmesan, croutons and a nice creamy Caesar dressing. Not to good for you but so so yummy!

Oh yes I love Caesar salad, but it all depends. Sometimes I'm craving a good Caesar, other times I'm craving a regular salad. I used to love the raspberry vinagrette when I was younger too, but I haven't tried it in years. I might get that next time.

I usually stick to italian dressing, but if I have to I will use ranch dressing. I have not tried that many other dressings, but ranch. I'm sure if I did others, I would find that I liked them. I stay too much in my comfort zone when it comes to food.

When I grew up we always had the same dressing on every salad. My mom would make it fresh just before we had the salad. It was always vinegar, water, salt, a pinch of sugar and a tiny amount of oil. The only variation were the herbs. Sometimes she would use chives, sometimes parsley and sometimes any other herb that was on hand.
I also make my own dressings but since I try and have a salad every day for either lunch or supper I like a bit of variety. I sometimes buy no fat Italian or Ranch with cucumber dressing. I also make a creamy dressing for cole slaw using Miracle Whip, vinegar, spices and herbs. Sometimes I just use a bit of fresh squeezed lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper and a pinch of sugar, whisk it all together in a small bowl and pour it over the salad just before serving it.

I usually stick to ranch whenever I have salad. It is something my whole family likes. My mother in law makes this italian dressing from a mix she buys at the store and it is really good too. I don't try to many different types of salad dressing. We don't make salad much here. Everyone gets tired of it too fast.

I always make my own salad dressing fresh each time we have salad, so I can change the taste each time if I fancy. I normally use pretty much the same ingredients, but I vary the quantities depending on how tart or oily I fancy it. I've got loads of oranges and lemons at the moment as they're in season, so I've been using lots of juice in my dressings instead of vinegar.

I like thousand island dressing a lot too. I got a little bored with it for a while then I tried Italian and blue cheese dressing, they are pretty good too.

I like thousand island dressing. usually when I eat macaroni or ceasar's salads, I asks for thousand island as a dressing. It blends well and add up to the good taste. I like salads a lot.

Though i don't have much idea about decorating the salads but from your words it seems like that the must be very tastey and attractive...mmmm great.lucky children of yours .they get according to their likings. but , here the case is so different my gf gives me whatever she wants to eat. whether i like it or not.have to eat dying of starvation is better than dying eating whatever she has...:(

I am a die hard Ranch dressing fan. Growing up I preferred 1000 Island. I think I could still eat 1000 Island, but I haven't in a very long time. (It's my husband's favorite, though). My daughters (twins) both prefer Blue Cheese. My son likes French. So there is quite a variety in my refrigerator.
