Do you Love or Hate Valentine's Day?

In general I love holidays. And I really enjoy planning days and coming up with ways to demonstrate to my wife that I am deeply in love with her, I cherish her, I don't take her for granted, she is the best thing that ever happened to me, & I am the luckiest man ever!
But Valentine's Day seems such a contrivance. I don't know when or where it started, but it is now a day that men are pressured, coerced, to buy something or spend money that is not necessary, just so we won't look bad or make our loved one look bad because we did not fork over the dough.
I know what I am going to do for my wife on Valentine's Day, and some of you would find it "sweet", but I am not as happy about the plan because it is tied to the commercial holiday.
So what do you call a scrooge/grinch like me? (please keep it clean, I don't want to blush!)

I wouldn't call you anything of the kind. You are being real and you are looking at motives and the whole comercialism of holidays today. I'm still happy with being remembered by putting away the dishes, and I think a card does the trick for celebrating the day for my husband. I might make my husband his favorite meal or take him out to lunch, but if I do; I do. If I don't, no big deal. Love is about feeling, emotion, and expression, not the amount of money spent on someone.

HI,
valentines day is celebrated after the St. valentine's.though everything must have started in a noble way to mark and remember the Saint. but our women and gift, cards companies have made it very commercial. this day is celebrated to show the affection of heart. but, wheere all these gift shop's and cards come to the picture?
And since people are getting a holiday for that then what more they want.
take your loved one's to a lovely restaurant for a candle light dinner...and present her a lovely red rose to show your love for her...because that's the cheapest and easy way to make big trouble ahead...:)

Was Valentine sainted because of his work with families or couples, or something connected to the way the day is celebrated today?

Saint showed his affection for the people who are in love in the roman empire.he used to do secret marriages to couples who are in love and want to marry each other. where the roman emporer Claudius-ii wanted his men to join army and not to start a family...

I don't love or hate it. I just treat it as one of my normal day. Eversince I was born it hasn't been special. It is like one of those days but the only difference is that you see the majority of people in the street are showing their affection , holding flowers and some of them wear read and greeting each other. I haven't been to a date during valentines day, I was always alone. I just went to work and go straight home,it never happened that I am with someon special and being sweet with him. I not feeling sorry for myself, I just accept it. Maybe its my destiny to be alone. However, I am happy with my family.

I don't love or hate the day itself, it is all the commercialism and hype that irritate me! I am glad you have your family to enjoy!

I loved Valentines day when I was single and when I was alone. I remember on that day I would always give my friends little cards and candy. But now that I am married, I still love Valentines Day, but I think people should celebrate Valentines Day more than just on February 14th. Thats what my husband and I do, we always express our love for one another besides Valentines Day. I am not those type of people that need something to be bought on Valentines Day, I always tell my husband that, but he will always buy me something. But expressing love doesn't mean you have to go out and buy something. Thats how I think Valentines Day should be celebrated and any other day for that fact.
I'm not sure how my husband and I will be celebrating Valentines Day, because I have to work, but I won't mind if I just come home and he cooked me a nice dinner. He always does that any way and I'll be happy either way.

lol
to tell you the truth i am single at present so Valentines Day seems not much special to me .but as a spectator i think it's a day for lovers it's lovers day,it's a day to celebrate their love history not a day that an incredible amount of money being spent on giving presents it's not thanks giving day .so in my eyes,on valentines day lovers go together to have a romantic dinner is more necessary than giving or receiving gifts.

Wow...you should just keep it nice and special. Make the dinner and add candles to make it romantic. Giving her a bouquet of flowers isn't so bad. I LOVE valentine's day. I love everything that comes with it, the flowers, the chocolates and or gift and of course the romantic meal. It just makes me feel so special, appreciated and loved.

i don't love nor hate valentine's day... i just be neutral... for me, valentine's day is just an ordinary day like any other day in the year... nothing really special and i don't really celebrate it... but i agree with you that valentine's day has been really commercialized by many businesses to make money which is really sad... you don't really need to spend lots of money to show someone that you love or care about the person... take care and have a nice day...

I like it but we really don't do much for it. Hubby and I spend the day together, like we do most every other day, sometimes I'll get some Valentine cookies for us but that's about it.

I neither love nor hate valentine's day. For me every day is a valentine's day. God has made us to love. He is manifested in us in the form of love. When we love a fellow human being, in fact we love the God within him or her. So, love all and hate none.

Well Iv never been heavily in to valentines day, because I dont have a significant other to share in the valentines day fun, but I defintly dont hate it, but sometimes it annoys me a little because I feel kind of left out and just a tiny bit lonely and seeing all those valentine's day commercials about love and gift and couples in stuff just makes me feel annoyed. but thats ok cuz at least I have lots of mylot valentines day friends.

I think of valentines day as another day. You should show people your love all the time not just once a year. I truely believe that it is a day made up for all the businesses to make good money. We don't exchange gifts or anything like that we just treat it like any other day.

I don't hate the Valentine's Day. After all, it's a holiday especially for lovers. It stands for the love and happiness. Although it seems that today this holiday becomes much more commercial. Sometimes we need some reasons to show our love to each other:)

i think it is a commercial holiday to make money and make people feel guilty if they do not get something for their loved one. it is silly because you do not need a holiday to let someone know you love them and in these hard economic times people cannot afford silly gifts when they cannot even pay their mortgages and bills.
