hello moneymommy i am so sorry to hear that after bathing your dog he still stinks. that isn't good. what kind of a smell does it smell like that is coming from your dog? lol thanks for sharing. did your dog get loose and go roll in something? Doughnut had gotten loose from our backyard last summer and when she came back home, oh my gosh! she had done rolled in something totally gross or somebody slimmed her with something gross. she got the bath with the hose outside on the back porch that afternoon and she wasn't a very happy camper about it either. maybe your dog just needs another bath. lol what kind of shampoo or soap did you use to bath your dog with? well i hope that you figure out what the odor is that is coming from your dog like that. take care and have a beautiful evening.

He just has that dog smell. I dont know why all the sudden he would start with the bad odor. Maybe we need to change shampoos.

ok, dogs really have that dog smell. however, if it was not that way before, it can be a sign that there is something wrong going on in its skin. if it is only a mild one, sulfur soap can effect a cure to this. if it is something which is quite not that easy to treat then, the veterinarian will have to be consulted on this matter. i can still remember when one of our dogs went through this problem. the vet injected something and then the problem was gone after a few days. good luck, friend. and may your problem be properly addressed very soon.

Are his teeth bad? Look at his diet, I give my dog digestive enzymes to help with digestion and she has no gas and very little body order. Look at his coast is it shiny or dry and dull ? Does he have good energy? Something is wrong and you have been alert enough to recognize that. You may need to get him to the Vet. A lot of people would just say he smells like a dog and let it go. Those dogs don't live very long. Good luck

Dry skin may be caused by lack of essential fatty acids, give him some soy oil with each meal start with a teaspoon unless he's a small dog. The fact that he is 5yrs old means his digestive system may not be working quite right.

this is a stange thing that has happened to your dog. there are some dogs which are smelly by nature. among these are the chow-chows. we used to have two and we had quite adjusted to their smelly nature for their lifetime. however, this shouldn't hold true to your dogs. how about trying to use sulphur soap? sulphur soap can effect some cure on the disturbances that takes place on the skin. scrub the dog's fur with the soap and then keep on massaging thoroughly for a few minutes. five minutes should be sufficient. then, apply some shampoo and proceed as you would normally bathe your dog. if this doesn't work, you will have to consult your veterinarian. i think that something is wrong with the dog's health, maybe it has developed some allergies and its becoming smelly lately is a call for help.

I have never heard of sulfur soap. Do they sell that at the pet stores? I will have to look into that.

It is a common problem for some dogs to get stinky no matter how much they are bathed. Check the ears if it is impacted, if not, you could go to your vet and ask for advice. I know there is this formula which you drop in their drink to reduce the odor of your dog.

The dog may have some kind of skin condition that is causing this odor. If it persists I would bring him to the vet just to have it checked.. does he scratch alot or anything?

Yes he does have very itchy skin. Alot of Schnauzer do develop skin conditions. I have been putting medicated shampoo on him. That seems to help the itch. But the smell is very new for him.

Then it is possible that his skin may have gotten a bacterial or yeast infection and that may be causing the odor. you might want to have him checked by a vet- he may need antibiotics. My roommates beagle mix had this kind of problem.

Morning moneymommy! Its funny but I have the same problem with my dog also. I did take him to the vet and he had an opinion on it...he better I paid for it...LOL! Anyways I have an older springer spaniel and he told me that his odor is coming from his ears and mouth...yuck! I now have to clean his mouth and ears a couple time a week. It doesn't eliminate the odor completely but it did help some. I also use a scented dog spray for his coat. Some of the odor may be from age. How old is your dog? Does he have some bad teeth? I guess the first step would be to determine if the odor is coming from a specific area and then maybe I can help more.

Hes 5 years old. Everything looks good on him. The only issue he has is dry itchy skin. I think I may have figured it out thanks! If its an odor coming from his mouth and hes biting on his skin wouldnt the odor stay on his coat? I think this may be the problem. What do you think?

It sounds like he may have developed some allergies. Alot of dogs suffer from that as well. When I inherited my dog after my mom passed he had a huge problem with licking and biting his fur and skin....allergies as the vet tells me. He recommending I put him on Science Diet for Sensitive Skin. I will say it has helped him alot. He still licks a bit...but all dogs do...but his skin is flakey anymore and he has a beautiful coat now. Then when I took him back to the vet he said he looked great and to keep up with the new food. You may want to try finding a food that will help with it. I am sure there are treats that also contain the vitamins you might need to help his skin and coat if you don't want to change foods on him. Good luck but I think you are on the right track for sure.

I give my dogs two baths in one. Two shampoos and rinses. I also let the shampoo stay on for awhile and go slower in the bathing process. I also use a conditioner and it sets on for awhile too. You may have better results with it and hope this helps!

I will try giving him some extra shampoos and maybe letting it stay on longer.

When ever there is a change with your pet, you should go to the vet to find out why. It could be a health issue. There is no other way to find out the cause and get it treated. My bigger dog never gets a bath and she doesn't smell.

Hi there, I too have smelly dogs! However I have found that bathing them is not enough - I also need to wash at the same time their bedding otherwise they get smelly almost instantly after a bath.
