Many people tend to neglect the "truth" that you can see in the bible. In fact even before people knew that the earth is round, it is already written in the bible. Many people do believe that the bible is true but they don't read it. Perhaps for many people it doesn't make sense, but think about it. Many passages written there could help you a lot in dealing with this life!!!

Hello Irishe,
As I am Jewish I do not read the christian testament, but I do read the Tanach which you would call the old testament. We do not consider it old. We consider it an ever growing Book of Life. It contains the story of our people as they struggled with the budding idea of Monotheism and how they fell and picked themselves up many times to once again follow the one true G'd!
It contains 613 Mitzvot which are commandments which we must follow in order to follow G'd's wishes. It contains the 10 commandments that christians know. It contains beautiful psalms which are songs or prayers to comfort us and admonish us. It contains proverbs to give us more ideas to help us through life.
It is the Book of Life!

Yep! It's amazing what you will find if you read the Bible front to back. Many "new" discoveries turn out to be quite old. Those people weren't as stupid as we thought they were!
Here's a couple of thing evolutionists try to keep a secret, considering that man wasn't supposed to be as advanced back then.
Air plane models! Yep, wooden "toys" representing our airplanes have been found in ancient ruins...woa!
Evidence for running hot and cold water has been found, not to mention the buildings that where built with block so huge our modern technology has no way of even budging because they where so heavy. The evolutionists are still pondering an explanation for these things.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention battery power. Yes, the rich had crude, but efficient forms battery power.
I've been studying these things for quite a while, and am quite impressed at how often the evolutionist are completely stumped for an answer to some of the things they find.
While some of these things where are not directly mentioned in the Bible, that doesn't mean they didn't exist, possibly because they didn't call a battery a battery, but something else. I once read about a trebuchet that king David built to shoot arrows in the bible. It was very advanced!

What? How does any of what you have mentioned have any possible relationship with the process of evolution? Evolution is a process that involves living things and you are talking about man made objects. I can't see the relationship.
You insist on using the term "evolutionist" and I don't know what that means. There is no such thing.

freethinkingagent you are probably correct but I still can't connect the dots and find the connection to the process of evolution.

I think he was trying to point out that "Ancient" man was way more advanced than we gave him credit for.

You will find similar scientific wisdoms in many ancient religious books and not just the bible. It just proves that our ancient forefathers were very much adept in science and astronomy and that somehow that knowledge was lost in darkness before being ‘rediscovered’ by scientists later in the middle ages.

Hi Irishe!
Many people believe different things- the bible may be your truth, but it isn't mine. I respect peoples faith, it is their right as a human being, but it is only a subjective truth, based on that persons life experiences etc. 'The Prophet' by Gibran Kahlil is IMHO a far more instructive book than the bible, give it a go, if you beleive in tolerance and understanding your fellow human.

I'm not being ridiculous, just honest. Truth is something you go looking for, but only you yourself could find it, for someone else to attain what you have, they have to take a journey like yours - but that is not absolute truth.saying something is fact - when nobody can prove or disprove it, is ridiculous.

So what you're saying is there is absolutely no absolute truth! That is what I said you said. Which sounds extremely stupid because saying there is 'absolutely no absolute truth' a.k.a. 'everyone's truth is different' is, you believe, 'an absolute truth.' You're contradicting yourself.

The Bible may speak the whole truth, but the actual meaning of the word in original language may be lost in translation. Sometimes the footnote of the Bible provides alternate word/translation. The interpretation of the Bible is further distorted. Different churches or even within the same group, the interpretation differs from pastor to pastor.

The tampering that has been done with the Bible is the fact that it was written in Aramaic and Hebrew and then translated into Greek and Latin and then into whatever other language was necessary and then it is further interpretated by whomever was teaching from it.
Even the christian testament has undergone the translation treatment. You cannot translate something into multiple languages X number of times without losing something in the translation.
That is the beauty of the Tanach (what you would call the old testament). We still read it in the Hebrew and Aramaic so we know that we have it right.

The Bible is completely true. Too many people try to twist bible verses to suit their lifestyle and feel less guilty and their sins and shortcomings.

aren't there some people, that because of the given dimensions of a round room in a description in the bible, insist that Pi = 3
even though that is definitely not the case, and at least one of the given dimensions of that room would have been wrong.
but yet they are insisting that schools should teach Pi = 3

The bible never said the Earth is round - it is described in the bible as a circle. There's a big difference between a spherical Earth and a circular Earth: one is 3 dimensional and the other isn't.
If anyone wishes to believe the allegories in the Bible as the absolute truth, they're welcome to. They aren't correct in their beliefs, but they can still believe them until the cows come home. I will agree, however, that for some people turning to the moral teachings in the bible can help if they feel they need moral guidance. Of course, that's only if they aren't looking for a way to deal with an unruly child, or the best way to punish a servant or slave.

Since one of God's commands was to not bear false witness, it's hard for me to believe that anything in the Bible would be false or even exaggerated. There are, however, some stories that some people might find to be fantastic and they might have a hard time believing them. I do believe what the Bible says, but what's more important is the fact that this book has the words of life. Whether you choose to believe every iota that's written in the Bible or not, this book teaches us how to live in harmony with God and man and what God expects from us. You'll never find a better text book for how to live here on earth with your fellow man and how to prepare for heaven with God. God pulls no punches. He tells us exactly what He expects, and if you want to know what He expects - read the Bible.

The entire Bible is written in such a way that it is meant to make people feel good. Even the scenes of Christs crucifixion are written in such a way that you do not feel guilty, but happy that he is doing that (for the salvation of your soul). The bible is not the whole truth, is my bottom line.

There are many good books out there that have passages that could help with dealing with this life... and they aren't out dated and built on peoples views of how things should be done.
It's been changed by all the re-writing and there are some seriously nasty things in it... like if my hubby listened to it and hit me with a stick the size of his thumb, I would hit him with something the size of my foot.
If the person reading the bible took it as lessons not laws then there would be some great things to be taken from it. But some still think it's ok to stone rape victims.
