Would you let a stranger use your cell phone?

I have never had a stranger ask me yet to use my cell phone. I'm sure if they did ask that I would let them use it for a few minutes. I did have a stranger offer me her cell phone last year. I was on vacation with my husband and I wanted to call home to check on our kids and we couldn't get reception with our cell phone. This kind woman let me use her phone to call home. I was so moved by her gesture. Would you let a stranger use your cell phone?

Yes sure why not if some good person in emergence needs to call using my cell I will be pleased to help him or her since it can happen to us some day so why not help others in hours of need

Yes it was. I even tried to give her money but she wouldn't take it.

Yes I believe that the gesture of the woman letting you use her phone to call home when you couldn't get reception was very nice. I have seen many times when people can't get out on their phones and really need to make a call, I have lent mine to many to use, one friend has long distance that she has to pay for and her family is a 1000 miles away and makes it very expensive for her to call, so when she comes over mine has unlimited long distance so I let her use mine. It is funny that we have to pay sometimes high prices for service that we can only use part of the time, I want service where ever I am, only place I have seen I can't use my phone is inside the doctors office I go to. My daughters done the same thing yesterday no reception, so it has to do with the building not the phone. We should all lend a kind gesture sometimes as we would like to have that same gesture done for us when we are in a bind.

Hello Shar19! I don't think I would ever take the risk of letting a stranger use my cell phone. It's so difficult to trust people nowadays. Perhaps, there are some factors I need to consider before letting someone else use my phone. Perhaps, if I see that the individual needs it badly, why not. But then again, much care must be exercised.

You're right about that. It is hard to trust people.

Hi Shar19 - I guess it would all depend on the whole situation... like, if this person looked trustworthy to me, if they needed it for an emergency or something like what the woman did for you when you & your husband were on vacation and you needed to check on your kids. I remember one time my son was in track & field at his old school and after a meet another child on his team needed to call home for his mom to pick him up so I let him use my phone. I didn't really know this child but my son did so I didn't mind. As I said, I guess it would just depend on the situation.

This is a good question. I don't think that I'll let a stranger use my phone, as nowadays people are not God fearing and they have the guts to do anything that will harm you, not to say I'm being negative. Probably the person would just run away with your phone or use it for scams. But, depending on situations and how the stranger is, maybe there's a very slim chance that i'll lend my phone. :)

I have in certain instances. I don't let them take it anywhere away from me. If someone is having trouble, can't use their phone, is waiting on someone, I will.

NO!! Don't use my phone!! I would hate to reject someone but I feel uncomfortable if someone was to use my phone for several reasons. If I get into such a situation, I would rather give them some coins and direct them to the nearest coin phone.

That's good too. If you can find a payphone.

It would depend on the stranger. I think I am fairly good at recognizing honest people and most people are honest. If they were in trouble, I would lend it to them. :-) Derek

Depending on the location I guess. I live in Calgary, I would NOT let a stranger use my phone as I'm, let's say, waiting for the bus, in a bar, and various other locations, UNLESS I knew them...but that would void the stranger part now wouldn't it? Ha ha. If someone knocked on my door and asked to use the phone, and I wasn't home alone, then yes I would let them. I mean, if I was back home in Nova Scotia, I would let strangers use my phone, MOST likely because the small town I lived in, I didn't know an untrust-worthy person there, and just so far, the majority of people in Calgary are NOT!

Hey there! I would if that person would use my phone in front of me. But if he/she ask if he/she can use it out side, for instance we're in a restaurant, no, I don't think so. My phone is very valuable to me. It has a lot of my important messages, remainders, files, etc., etc. so I have to keep my phone safe. Of course there are some exceptions like in your case I believe you can be trusted. You see people are unpredictable in situations. They can turn their back on you and run away with your phone. As for your situation that is a very kind woman who offered you to her phone so you can check on your kids back home. Have a nice day!

It depends on the situation, but most likely I would. I have in the past when a motorist was stranded on the side of the road and didn't have their cell phone with them. I have also had to ask a stranger to use their cell phone when I was broke down on the side of the road.

I neither have encountered such a situation, but I think it depends where I am at. If I'm in an exclusive hotel or resort where everyone there is elite and something like that, and I'd be sure the the person borrowing wouldn't run away with my phone, then perhaps I would. But, I don't know. Perhaps it would also be in their good nature to provide phones for the guests, right? I don't think I'd lend my phone, unless I'd call for them (if it's an emergency) but otherwise, I don't think so. I'm not trying to be prude, but you just can't hand out your phone (specially if it's an expensive one) to someone you don't know. Unless I'm using a very cheap one, then perhaps I would. Hehehehe... Better safe than sorry.

I have let a stranger use my phone before. They were trying to use the pay phone, but it was not working right. I let this lady use my phone to make a phone call. I know I would want someone to do the same for me if I needed to make a call.

Yes I will and actually did. I met a Filipina here in Denmark at a train station. She's arrived few days ago and was lost. She cant remember on which way she should go. It was dark already and she's almost teary eyed when she approached me. She said her sim card for the line here in Denmark accidentaly locked and needed a PUK code which evidently she did not know. She has to call her cousin ho where she's staying. As a Filipina, my instinct is of course to help her in anyway I can. I even offered her to stay at our place for the night then we will search her address on the net. Good thing she reached her cousin and was been picked up afterwards. I dont really mind as long as my gut feeling tells me that such person is sincere and telling the truth.

It depends. It would let he/she use my cell phone only it looks emergent.Letting strangers use your cell phone would be kind of risky coz he/she may get your number and bother you later with different excuses.

Honestly, i don't know what to do if a stranger would borrow my mobile phone.. because my hubby's sister was once a victim of this modus operandi.. one stranger came to her and asked if he can borrow her mobile phone because he needs to call up his mom.. she didn't refused.. okay, she lend it to him and to her surprise the stranger run away from her.. yay!
