Drawing, I find is personally more relaxing- working the layers of charcoal or graphite and watching the pure cleaniness of shadow and light emerging is like touching a soul. With out the color introduced the individual that is viewing the work literally put color, and shade that they want in.....

I really like how you describe drawing Charlene. I like to sit and draw , but
my drawings look like something a child drew . I love to oil paint and do it much better then drawing. Oil paint is more forgiving . You always have time to go back and change or fix things as it takes longer to dry. Both drawing and painting are
very relaxing. I have alot of respect for people who can draw or paint faces , to me they are very hard . I could never do them. I'm more into painting trees ,
lakes, and barns . I think someone brought up the price difference. Oil painting supplies can get very costly ..

I agree with both of you!
I have a couple charcoal drawings,
It's like total opposite of pencil drawing.
The challenge was really intriguing.
I'll have to post up one of the one's I've made.
And I've always done the oil paint by numbers as a kid, haha.
But even after those years, I'm still not sure if they've dried.
LOL

Beachstarz and Mamabeezy Hello to both of you!
Beachstarz- I've painted my share of Trees, lakes and barns! To me it was an act of tricking the viewers eye. No small feat to anyone who tackles an object that carries no eyes or frown lines.Light and shadow are the primary ingredients to good landscapes.
Mamabeezy- paint by numbers or otherwise ENJOY! The idea is to have fun first!

I like both for different purposes, and both can look amazing when done to their full potential. If I had to choose, however, I like painting better because I love experimenting with color and texture and various other effects that can't really be done with the more simple medium of plain pencil. The complexity that can be achieved intrigues me. I do agree that it is probably much more challenging than drawing but that is also part of the fun of it for me as well... I am not that great at it but I'm learning...

I like both very much, so it is not an easy choice. I guess it depends on my mood. I usually draw a kind of fantasy pictures, sometimes I use a bit of colour, but most of the times I only use my pencil. When I start I never know what I am going draw, I just start and see what happens, and that is one of the things I like the most about drawing. When I am painting I like to experiment and to play with the colours. Sometimes I forget everything around me when I start painting.

Personally, i like painting better. But i didnt get there without starting off drawing. The only the i like drawing better than painting for is the supplies are alot cheaper.

I would paint as well but I'd rather not have to give up either medium :)

I love drawing more than painting probably because I have only ever done 1 painting and hundreds of drawings. My first painting was an oil painting of Sophia Loren, although I am fairly happy with the outcome, oil is difficult to work with and takes ages to dry.Give me a good set of pencils and some paper and I can create something I like with much less fuss than a painting. I would love to master the rudiments of painting with oil though because when done well it can help an artist create stunningly realistic work.

well it really depends on what kind of painting regular brush and paint just don't do it for me, i like them and all but i cant seem to get the same style as with a pencil and paper. But you hand me a can of spray paint I'm stuck till my art is complete the way it throws the paint and color, drawing just couldn't and wouldn't give me that same feeling
