I want to get your view on this. My Mom and Aunt NEED their religion; they enjoy going to mass, it pulls the through tough time and they run to it when they have a problem. Constantly praying, going to mass, etc.
I don't feel the desire to have a set religion and am okay with being spiritual and they don't understand that. When I have tough times I rely on my inner strength to pull through it and will reach out for help if I need it, but to other people, not to religion. I feel very connected to the Earth and everything around me. I meditate and find inner peace.
What is you view on this? Why do you think some people need a religion and others are okay with just being spiritual?

Everyone has their security blanket. If you're a parent, you know what I mean by this. Every kid has something they run to when they feel scared (besides their parents). Sometimes it's an actual blanket, or maybe it's a habit like thumb sucking - whatever it is, it's there when they need it to make them feel better. That's pretty much what religion is. It's a security blanket for people who want to be sheltered from the harshness of reality, if only for a moment. It's something people feel they can lean on or depend on.
There are several kinds of security blankets for people, and everyone needs one. Religion is only one of the many ways to deal with reality. It's just a matter of personal preference. Some prefer the supernatural, others don't.

I'm not a huge fan of "religion" in general. I think though that for some they need the security of something tried and true. I'm not going to judge if that makes someone more spiritual then another though. That is for each person to decide. If your mom and aunt are comfortable attending mass all of the time, then that is something they should do because it is important to them.

Most of my family members they think that they need religion, they really don't, but they think that they do, but I do not think I need it at all, and thus, I have no religion.

i think some people just dont think they are strong enough to handle things "alone" so they use religion (whether or not religion is real etc) as a pacifier to get them through it.. a coping mechanism..
it drives me nuts that some people feel if they miss a week of church they are at more "risk" to sin because to me that is saying that if they dont feel watched and kept tabs on then they have absolutely no control over themselves and will just go wild.. how pathetic to think of yourself in that way ya know??
same with the people that are obsessed with the world ending and the rapture.. they seem to need to feel that they are going through whatever hard times they are going through for a reason so that they will be rewarded in the end.. and that maybe the people that have it easy that are "sinful" wont be as well off come d-day.. they need to keep themselves afraid to keep their faith which i find also sad..
all of what i said probably sounds rude and horrible but just an observation from growing up in a highly religious environment..

Some people need religion because some people need salvation for those people who do not believed in religion, well they their own way on how to be saved..your faith is within your religion..your spiritual growth will grow when you attached yourself into religion.

I think that religion is part of humankind's childhood. We need a good father or mother who can fix everything that goes wrong or who can comfort us when it can't be fixed. Religion does that for some people. Others depend on their own inner strength or on the strength found in their relationships to get them past these challenges. Still others use a combination of both religion and their networks of relationships. I reckon that as humanity moves beyond this childhood phase, the need for religion will become less and the need for strong relationships will become stronger. That transition, I think, will make such ideas as the "universal soul" more commonly accepted. My two cents.

Religion is not what we need, but God is! This life that runs out of our control all the time needs direction, direction from someone who will have to necessarily know our past, present and future and God is mighty and wise enough to guide/direct us and so, we need God and not religion. The practice of religiousity for some may lead to godliness but not always. But life is about living with God, living with ourself and living with others around us in peace and harmony. Don't you think so?

Faith and religion is personal... some people need the structure of their religious practices. They use it to help them through. It guides them through daily actions. Maybe it's what gives them their strength to make it through.
Other people can remain faithful to their faith with less structure. Maybe you are right, that it's an inner strength. Or maybe it's just that in all things they are of an independent or solitaire mind set.
