I always wanted to be a vetinarian. I think most children do. My youngest daughter wants to be one now. My oldest..a doctor. Who knows what we will become while as children we have these things we want to become. What did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was a little boy, I always wanted to be a pilot. Part of it was due to my father. He was an aircraft engineer. And all those exciting stories he told me of his overseas assignment, made me want to be one. Plus, having airwolf and blue thunder playing on TV at that time, it reinforced my decision. But due to physical limitations, I am not qualified to be one. A big blow to me actually. Sigh... so when I grew older and got exposed to more computers, I decided to become a system administrator. Guess what? I am one now.

Good for you! It's tough when medical issues come up. My family has a strong military background and my dad had a injury when he was a child that caused surgery on his elbow. He was not accepted because of it. It was tough for him not to follow tradition. Thanks for the response.

all i ever wanted to be was grown up and on my own. I can't recall anything ever being more important than that to me. I didn't care what I did for work or anything beyond finding something that would help me support myself and later on ...my children. I didn't consider material gain...I wanted to make my way on my own and I guess I've succeeded in that. I'm far from rich but I am on my own and independent. I'm happy with it...wish I earned a bit more to make it less of a challenge but on the whole, I do ok. I like my life and don't have regrets.

Good for you sid! A lot of birds don't want to leave the nest. I'm like you though. I like my privacy and independence. It can be tough sometimes and we can all use a little more money but I agree it's worth it to feel satisfied. Thanks for the response.

My older daughter has expressed an interest in your line of work too. They offer a cosmotology class at her highschool as an elective. Her electives are all related to the medical field, but I told her she could take it next year as one of them.

I always wanted to become either a teacher or a dentist. I never became any of them due to the financial status and problems we had that time. I sure hoped I did get at least one of them, but for sure being a teacher is far easier to achieve now that I have my MBA, but the dentist dream would continue to be a dream. Sigh.

Hi Jen! When I was young I wanted to be a nurse. I had started to take medical courses when I was in college, briefly. I only went for 1 year and then quit. I did end up working in the medical field as a medical secretary and medical surgical coordinator and I ran a doctors office but never did get to be a nurse! I loved working in the medical field alot! But, unfortuanately I spent more years working as a legal secretary which almost caused me to lose my mind!

hello jenintn when i was in high school years ago, i had always wanted to go on to college to be an art teacher. but i didn't. i went on from high school and got my first job working as a secretary. i chose the office path. lol i always was really involved in art class through the years that i went to school. my Mom still has lots of pictures and drawings and different kinds of art work that i did when that i was in school. it is always fun to dig out all of the things like that that somebody has put up, and sit and look at them by yourself or even share it with friends. and that is what that i should have been as well was a vetinarian, i love all different kinds of animals. lol take care and have a beautiful day today!

I've not had any classes or instruction but I have always liked to draw and don't do to bad. I met someone that painted regularly and thought it may be something I'd like to try. I adore it now. I learn more and more all the time. Thanks for responding and take care.

At first I wanted to become a teacher. Danish is the local language in my country, and I was especially interested in becoming a Danish teacher, because I like reading and writing. I thought that it would be fun to teach the children to write. After a while I changed my mind and I decided that I wanted to become a librarian instead of a teacher (because I loved books and reading). Some time went by and then I changed my opinion again and decided that I would like to become a journalist. Today I am not a teacher, a librarian or a jounalist, but I still like to read and write

I wanted to be a bank manager when I was young! And I stuck with that in my head for a good number of years! No, I did not become a bank manager in the end as I realised banking would not be my thing... At one point I did want to be a child-minder too. I know, it's funny when you look back. My little nephew who is only 3 years old insists he wants to be a bus driver, only part-time though!

Hey there JenInTN! I wanted to be a pilot for as long as I can remember. I'm actually looking at commercial flight schools in our area, and intend to take lessons...when I do get the money to do so. For now, It's still a dream, hopefully in the future it becomes a reality.

I wanted to work on the railroad as a brakeman or conductor.. Or work the tracks, or work over seeing railroad safety somehow... But.. Somehow down the line I developed psychic ability that is so strong.. I can not cross or come into contact with railroad equipment without recieving information from it.. the worse is at the railroad crossings... So I can not drive cause I can not drive across the tracks... ... So then I wanted to have my own Chatroom and Forum network.. that was moderated like About.com... But had different rules for each chat and allowed the freedom and open topic movement like yahoo.com .... Other than the dream of leading my own social network.. I don't know what I am gonna do in life. I can not usually read on demand like other psychics it comes and goes.. sometimes nicely other times slapping me in the face... So... I am still searching for that job.. I am trying my hand at writing but my book sales are going to slow... - DNatureofDTrain

I wanted to be almost everything. I wanted to be a doctor or a nurse for awhile. Then I wanted to be a vet. I thought those would be really great professions to get into. I also wanted to be a teacher. I loved to play school and make my students work on worksheets. I loved trying to teach them things, it was fun. I fell into teaching. The other ones, well I felt like those were just too hard for me. Don't get me wrong, teaching is hard too. It's definitely not easy and it's really stressful but I enjoy it.

Well, to be frank I never gave any thought to this important habit as I grew to be a young man and now I am a non- vegetarian though my wife is a hard core vegetarian. As I am a non veg I often suffer from stomach disorder while my bitter( oops, 'better' ) half has not any. Therefore now I am giving a serious thought to turn a vegetarian.
