I can drink tap water in my home country. Sometimes when traveling it is better to drink bottled water. It can be dangerous in some countries where getting a disease would be a possibility. If the water supply is really bad I wouldn't even use it for brushing my teeth.
Is it safe to drink the tap water where you live?
Have you ever been somewhere you couldn't drink the tap water?

Hi maximax8. It is definitely safe here in Singapore, as we always drink water straight from the tap. I've been to a lot of places where it is not particularly a good idea to drink water from the tap. I always ask the locals (if someone can actually understand what I'm asking them), if they drink water from the tap. Most will say yes, but then again I'm not willing to take the chance, so it's off to 711 and a gallon of bottled water ;o)

I live in the U.S. and the tap water here is "technically" safe to drink, at least that's what they say. It has been filtered, I guess, and some water in the U.S. is also floridated too, whic is supposed to be good for your teeth. How safe it really is, I don't know. We use one of those Brita water pitchers that has another filter on it that we replace every few months. I brush my teeth with regular tap water and cook with it too, especially if it will be boiled before use. We only began using the Brita pitcher about 6 months ago when my mom bought us one. I think it tastes sooo much better! I hate drinking it straight from my faucet now after trying it this way. Hopefully, it is better for us too, but who knows.

I live in West Texas and we do not drink the water. The city water is said to be safe but it tastes horrible and most of the well water in the area has been contaminated by the oilfield. The only thing I do with tap water is wash with it (dishes, and showers) I buy water by the 5 gallon bottles and I do not even let my dogs drink from the tap. To add to that I have relativly safe water compared to other parts of the area where they tell you not to let your children drink from the tap because it will make them very sick.
I love where I live but I no longer drink water anywhere that has not been filtered.

tap water is generally very good here and safe to drink. Researchers have found that water coolers may be far worse. There are insidents though from time to time. A few years ago a germ got in the water in a larger city here and several hundreds are still struggeling with neurologial disease.
Some places I have travelled to have had really bad water. It may be safe for some, but for visitors that are not used to the bacteria commonly found there it is not safe to use for drinking, nor brushing ones teeth in.

Hello maximax8!
I do not trust the tap water here in our country. I really am afraid of drinking water directly from the faucet. For one, some areas are not really that clean. When some places are in question especially when it comes to hygiene, I would rather have bottled water.

Yeah it is safe to drink here, but I don't I usually buy bottled water and only use the tap water for brushing my teeth, having my bath, and cooking. Like you I don't trust the tap water everywhere I go...some places the water smells awful I won't even bathe with it...

Yes it is safe to drink out tap water here but then it is always advisable to boil it first before drinking, but at home we do have a water dispenser that boils the water first which makes it safe for drinking...

No, you wouldn't want to drink tap water here in Mexico. Everyone drinks bottled purified water. You also have to watch when someone gives you a drink with ice , and make sure the ice is from purified water . One evening a neighbor gave my husband and friend sodas with ice that wasn't purified , well you can imagine what they were up all night doing .. it wasn't pretty! lol

I rarely drink tap water but where i live in the UK when i do drink tap water its absolutely fine not an ounce of dirtyness or anything, it comes out of the tap crystal clear, and very cold and its so refreshing, its even better than when you put things in the fridge.

We drink it here. It is safe. I have never gotten sick from it. Never been anyplace I couldn't. If I traveled more, I'd be drinking bottled for safety.

It is pretty much safe here. I have lived here for eight years, and as far as I know, I haven't suffered any ill effects from the water...

In my country we were told not to drink tapped water from early childhood. For limited resources, the supply system was not designed to that standard.
When I went overseas the first time, I was told overseas you can drink tapped water, so I did in germany. But every time I went to the US, if I drank tapped water, whether in the east or in the west, always resulting in troubles. I will never venture to drink tapped water anywhere from then on.

From my experience of living in different cities, I can say that it depends from place to place. I am an Indian and have lived in 3 cities so far for a minimum of 3 years in each.
In my first city, Patna, we had done a boring into the soil to get the drinking water via motor and it was pure as anything. You could drink as much as you want without getting ill.
Then, I moved to Delhi and here the water under the soil is not suitable for drinking. It contains a lot of salt so the authorities here purify them before supplying them to our home.
