Calling All Prayers

I'll try to make this short. And there is a couple questions at the end. My dad just took my mom to the hospital. Earlier this evening she passed out, had a short seizure, and threw up. She had done this years ago, doctor gave a reason that made sense at time, and said it could happen again. Well she's gotten sicker this time, more things are happening than throwing up, but she has had no more seizures. I'm worried. What happened tonight has only occurred when over days she had the flu. This came on in a span of three hours. Anyone have something similar with your family to this effect? Her doctor is a good doctor. I think this is something different than the last time. Please pray. I'm at home, he told me to keep myself busy, NOT call my sister (she's 2 hours away and she'd worry), and if he needed me he'd call me.

My dad just brought her home. She had some things "off" in her blood work, so they want her to make an appointment with her regular doctor. They filled her up with IV fluids to rehydrate her, and gave her anti-nausea medication. They said for her not to EVER get up in the next few days without telling my dad or myself. We are supposed to go with her whenever she has to get somewhere, even the bathroom. I think that means I'll be staying here a couple days. Which I don't mind if I can help.

No, not vertigo. But that isn't a fun condition either I'm sure.

Oh... that's great! I don't know if I'm but I think your mom has a vertigo. I know because I had it before. Whatever the case maybe, we are still praying for her past recovery. Godspeed...

Okay thanks. I just called him on his cell phone. He said he'd call me when he knew something. They were putting an IV in her when I called. I know I was supposed to wait for him to call, but it's hard not knowing.

PS--I think I may have told this somewhere along the line before somewhere at MyLot land...but it was on a hot Monday, June night in 2005 that my mother was taking a bath late at night. Now I always used to check in on her to make sure she was all right as she had a habit of falling asleep while taking a bath. Well this time it was okay, but she was having problems getting out of the tub...I tried to help her but even though she was petite and didn't weight much I just couldn't lift her out...so since I knew my neighbor was a night owl...dashed out and rang her bell----I had to wait a bit, but by the time she and I came back into my apt and into my bathroom my mother was out cold...I yelled out at her..nothing, slapped her on the face..nothing...so called 911..probably was a mini stroke...but odd how things turned out...if it hadn't been for that incident we would never have found out, with all the tests she was to have while in the hospital that she had esophageal cancer

Hi ambie~ Just try to stay calm. Your dad did the right thing. Your mom will be alright. She is where she needs to be. They will do all the testing that they need to do to find out what the cause of the seizures are. All you can do is sit tight and pray. I will pray that she is ok too. They will find out what is wrong after they run the proper tests. Now stay calm and try to get some rest yourself. If you need to talk pm me. I will be here on and off. Now it might take some time but she is at the hospital where they can monitor her so she will be in good hands.

When I had the flu a few weeks ago the same thing happened to me....I didn't pass out but thought I was going to while sitting on the commode! I broke into a sweat and water was running down my body so hard I couldn't pull my clothes back on....I thought I was having a heart attack or something....so maybe it's the results of the flu! Hopefully it is....and she'll be back on the road to recovery soon! I'll say a quick prayer for her!

I had that happen to me once when I had the flu, like you described. But the ER doc said it wasn't the flu. So today we called her regular doctor, and we are waiting on them to call back and tell us when they can see her.

HI,my family and I never have this kind of sickness. But I will pray for your mom and I wish she will be better sometimes soon. How old is she? sometimes she might ate something wrong and make her throw up, but about passed out I have no idea why. What did the doctor say so far now? But it is good to keep yourself busy by using Mylot. I know your mind is not here but dont worry god will be with her and help her gets through this. Dont worry too much, think something possible and it will bring you good news. Good luck and dont forget to update with us.

I need to post an update. I've been so busy taking care of her, then I got the flu. I'm trying to catch up on all my mylot discussions. I'm late in answering SO many of them. But she is better, much better.

Sorry to hear it came back. I remember being there for you during another family illness Ambie. Once again you've got support from me. I hope your mom can get threw this. As for your discussion question, no one in the family has gone through something like this to my knowledge. The closest example I can draw from is mom but that was a stress related collapse. Flu wasn't involved and neither was fever.

Wow Ambie! How scarey, and I hope she will be better soon! Too bad you don't remember what the doctor said last time, it would certainly ease a bit of the worry and frustration over what is happening now. Do you remember if she had the flu last time as well? I'm just wondering if it's a medication interaction or something. Please keep us posted, and I will keep both of you in my prayers for a speedy recovery!

She hardly takes any medicine anymore. About a year ago her memory was awful. Come to find out it was medication she was on. So she only is on two right now and she hasn't had a bad reaction to them. What they said last time I think is not what happened last night. We're going to get her in to her regular doctor and then I think she will have my mom go to a neurologist. To share my mom's medical history would take too long, but it's a complicated history, and hopefully this time it will be an easy answer.

My mom had a very low tolerance to medications too. Almost everything she was on had to be cut in half, otherwise she would have reactions to them. It's not fun. Even when my mom was in the hospital, with ample notes in her charts, she was frequently 'accidentally' overmedicated- just by receiving standard doses.

I will be praying for you and your mom. I know what it is like to be scared like that! My dad was riding a mule a few years ago and something scared it and it slammed dad into a tree and kicked him in the head. He came home with blood all over his face and acting confused. He seemed to be "awake" but didn't know what happened. A little while later he didn't even remember riding the mule and didn't remember how he got home. Then he started having seizures and weird things like that. The doctor confirmed he had a concussion, but there wasn't much he could do about it. So we where all really scared and thought we might loose him! But after a few days he started getting better, and he's fine now. He can't smell though! apparently his smelling sense got messed up! I know this isn't much like your situation since at least we had an explanation and you don't, but...all the same, perhaps it will be encouraging to you to know we pulled through after a big scare. I hope your mom pulls through all right and the doctors are able to help her! God bless!

Amber, I said a prayer for you and your family that He will restore all of you..that all will be well. There are all different kinds of seizures. I beleve there are 500 different kinds. I knew a woman who that happened to. It only happened to her once or twice and the doctor had no idea why. I have epilepsy so I do have seizures. Did the doctor do tests for epilepsy? The flu may have been a coincidence. Depends on what other things are happening. Is she taking meds of any kind? Did she hit her head in the last month?
