It depends on the publication and spreading among the people. I think right now firefox is still the most popular browser. Recently, I am having a problem with firefox and I try to install opera.. Wow, I am surprised with the new elegant look and it is much faster than the last opera that I used. I recommend to one of my friends and she is happy with opera too.

You can use it on Windows and Linux. What I have discovered in Opera is, Warning before going on malicious sites, really nice RSS reader, mail account, magic stick for auto completing forms, nice download(transfer) organizer and you can customize your look however you want.

I don't think so. Internet Explorer is still much popular than Opera. Most users would prefer using Internet Explorer since it is most often their computers' default web browser. Opera needs to gain more popularity before it can defeat other browsers when it comes to usage.

I have been an Opera user since version 5. There were many things I liked about Opera. They included a small footprint, very fast speed, tabbed browsing (yes, they had it long before Firefox), and a better memory management. Those ntroduced to Opera did not turn back. A big issue then was its incompatibility with certain web sites. But then nobody visits all websites. What converted my friends were its speed and the fact that it could be used on low end computers.
Opera has improved and become even better. True, Firefox has add-ins. But I can live without them. Opera handles tabs better than Firefox. As someone who like to have many active tabs open at the same time this is a big plus point. Most websites now work well on Opera.
So how come Firefox managed to upstage Opera? It is free and Opera was not. Opera is now free but many users are already used to Firefox. Opera has a lot to do to gain more users. Given the right strategy and user support I believe Opera can become more popular than it is now. As it is we have Opera for mobiles, and indication of the trust it has gained. This indirectly exposes Opera to more users.
In summary it is possible for Opera to become more popular. As for being the most widely used browser it will not be in the near future.
all the best,
