Sticking your head in the sand will cure the ecomony?

I know many of the anti Obamas think the life we know is ending because a republican is not running the show and now feel free to run rampant and scream the any attempt the current administration is making will fail, well I am sorry if you think doing nothing will change things. Or maybe you have a million dollars hid away in a slush fund somewhere? Take you head out and look at this video that has been running on PBS http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/meltdown/view/ You know what, the world economy could fall apart and then what would you do? I know go into a bunker and wait it out, you have it stocked with food and guns knowing this was coming as soon as a Dem took over. Do not call me crazy, I hear this crazy stuff all the time from customers of my brother in law's gun store. And these survivalists and their supporters are right here on mylot. It is going to take a very long time to fix this mess and jumping on the new president because he has not fixed it already is NUTS! Some here would prefer we turn to anarchy because this would give credence to their hatred of the president. Wake up, the ecomony was failing long before and BUSH had his head in the sand. When Banks fail we can and will hit another depression.

I think it's crazy how everybody blames everything on the president. One man did not create the economic crisis and one man isn't going to be able to fix it. When Obama was campaigning he didn't say yes I can he sad yes we can. A lot of people voted for him but for some reason they didn't really get the message. The economic stimulus can work if people are willing to learn from their past mistakes and do things that benefit everybody and not just themselves. So far it doesn't seem as if things have gotten bad enough for people to do that yet.

I am glad you get it. But it is sad that many do not. Only time will tell. We all need to change, give up our credit cards, learn to wait for things instead of needing instant gratification. As much as I did not like Bush, I can not blame it on one man, this is a worldwide problem. We are not alone we are citizens of the world and need to see what happen in one place on earth effects us all.

Good luck trying to get people to stop criticizing and start helping. :-) That was my rally-cry for the past 8 years. People were intent that yelling, cursing, insulting, pointing the finger at, and wanting to impeach Bush would make the world's troubles disappear. The more things change... I don't know anything about the head in the sand stuff, but I will take your word for it. People I know around my area are genuinely scared that America attempting to spend its way out of a financial problem will worsen the problem. However, as worried as we are, we hope and pray and beg and plead that America will bounce back. When it comes down to it, most people (not the loonies, obviously) put aside their political affiliation and hope for America's best. A little criticism now and again never hurt anybody. :-) I just hope people don't go overboard and resort to racial slurs and things of that nature. I don't want that stuff around me or in my country.

it will take more than four years to turn the ecomony around, let's just help that Americans can work together to do it.

when the head of the former soviet union is telling Obama that socialism doesn't work and to not go down that road - maybe he's talking from experience?

Today Obama refused to go along with a governtment take over of two floundering banks Citigroup and Bank America. If he were even remotely socialist ( which he is not) he would have jumped at the chance. Helping businesses get back on their feet is not a form of any socialism I ever studied in college or graduate school.

The problem is that the people who complain the most (not all but most of them) are either people who sit on their a$$es and do nothing, absolutely nothing to help anyone, and I personally know some of them who do not even vote, or are part of the problem. Take, for example, the environment. They will complain about the cost of this, the air, the water, yada, yada, yada, yet they will not recycle, not stop using harsh chemicals for their gardening, cleaning, will not turn off their lights, stop using gas guzzling autos, or at least try to curtail their use, etc. Now that is just one of many examples. It reminds me of the armchair athletes who could not even compete with a fiver year old in a sport who yell at the players and tell them how bad they play, yada, yada, yada. It makes me sick! It goes back to the Serenity Prayer basics that if you can make a change, be a part of it, if you cannot, then shut up. This man, Obama, is the first president that I have ever seen who started working the day he won to get his programs running. He has the best interests of the US at heart and will I ever agree with everything any president will do? NO!! I will never agree with ANYONE 100%. To put yourself out there, in this type of job, to try and fix the mess that last admin has left, it an incredibly, enormous task. Even so, all the presidents, good or bad, are still good Americans and men and all the crap that is going around to try and find bad in this guy is failing. They cannot find that he cheated on stuff (including his wife), and how many presidents came to the office with a clear name? It is few and far between. I dare anyone out there to try to do what he is trying to do, even on a local level. I am friends with local politicians who have the same type of problems on a local level who say that they cannot even imagine the job of being president and that like Lincoln, who took over a country being torn apart, he has so much on his plate, yet he carries it with conviction and grace. He refuses to be anything but a gentleman but yet he is staunch on doing all that he can to fix the problems. The problems took years to happen and will not take months to fix. He may not even be able to get it all fixed in four years but he is moving at warp speed to get things moving. No one, no matter what you say, can convince me otherwise, so do your best but it will fall on deaf ears. I know better.

I like your assesment of things. I know people who are the same as you described. They complain all the time but do nothing to help themeselves are other people. It has been said before, It took a long time to create the situtaion that we are in so it will take a while to get us out. Obama is trying and really that is all you can do. Research and try to find the best solution and try to put it to action. You never know what will work until you try. We know that was has gone on in the pass 8 years hasn't worked so we need to do something else. Those who oppose what he is trying to do, there state governors can just refuse the money they are getting, some are saying that they might do that, lets see if they win relection.

Well let's see, Bush was an oil barron and he started a war over oil and to impress his daddy, NOT WOMD. Reagan, hm Iran- Contra affair. I could go on. The nonsense about his birth certificate, is just that, nonsense, the government saw it you and judged him a natural born citizen, and if it were really an issue he would never made it to Congress. I bet any person in government being human has some skeletons even the smallest most insignifigant type that someone could take issue with. I am not showing you my birth certificate either are you going to throw me out of the country?. People are nitpicking and I KNOW some are racists period whher they admit it or not, some are just paranoid and some are just mad because a republican did not get in. A close friend of mine was torn about who to vote for and why? Because as he said," I was afraid he would just fill the cabinet with people of his own race". In general he is not a racist in any other area of his life, but this paranoia just overcame him. And if I looked into every human beings background on earth, maybe with the exception of Mother Theresa, I am sure I would find something questionable. It is time to get over this and work towards fixing the problem instead of looking for things to complain about .

I definitely agree with your overall statement; however, I don't think President Obama entered his job with a "clear" name. It's simply that the public refused to hold him accountable for his questionable decisions in the past, thus causing them to disappear. A lot of Obama criticisms were passed off as nothing more than right-wing slander. And regardless of how highly anyone holds Obama - or to how low a standard even - there were things in his past that were instantly overlooked that have plagued the political careers of a few Presidents and impeded the progress of many policians in general. While Obama was running for President, every individual criticism and questioning of his past behavior fell on "deaf ears" from people who simply refused to believe, question or listen. I do agree that his job is incredibly difficult and that he is meeting the task head-on with grace and conviction in his beliefs. I also agree that he has an idea for what he believes to be a better America and will do whatever's necessary to get that across. However, I also believe that the majority of Obama supporters are completely infatuated with the man on a Beatles level of fandemonium love. There are many out there who will bash and criticize and claim they can do a better job. Everyone knows that's a lie and it's just pointless to argue over it. But there are literally millions of people who look at Obama right now and say, "Not only has he NEVER done wrong, but he CAN'T do wrong." Any man should be judged fairly, and Obama dodged more than a few bullets on his way to office that have previously hit many a-politician.

I hope that all the money that's getting thrown at this economic mess does work. My husband works in construction (plumber) and his business has dwindled to practically nothing. I honestly figured that since we live outside New Orleans that we would have tons of work for years with the rebuilding effort. Boy I was wrong. How many defaults will these companies withstand? Many of them put themselves into this mess in the first place. Also, another beef with me, oil companies (any oil company just pick one) who makes billions of dollars of profit each year while they were charging us poor saps $4.00+ a gallon for gas, what's up with that? But the lobbyists get there hands on politicians so nothing is ever really done. They parade them up in front of a panel and they sing and dance then it's over. The trickle down effect is staggering and that I hope this stimulus fixes. It's a vicious circle that I think is getting fueled even more by the media so I don't watch national news anymore. I do worry that once this money will get into their hands its going to be abused by politicians doing favors for whoever contributed the most to their campaign and my children will still be paying for this when they grow up. Let's hope that won't happen but you are talking about POLITICIANS and no matter what party they're with they'll stick it to the little man! In fact, its a shame that Obama has to have a meeting of mayors and tell them to not waste this money. I think that is a sad state of affairs that he even had to say that to these people at all.
