My wife is pregnant and she is very upset because of her hairfall. Is it because of pregnancy? What can be done to stop hairloss and to improve hairgrowth? Any suggestions?

My daughter (25 years old, single, not pregnant) was having a tremendous amount of hair loss. We found a doctor that tested her hormones and found the estrogen to be extremely higher than normal along with testosterone. She has been on a program to bring the estrogen levels down to normal and her hair is returning. Your wife's doctor should be able to work with her and explain elevated levels of estrogen during pregnancy if that is the problem. I had hair loss after my babies were born but that turned around as my hormones became rebalanced. A book that has been helpful to understand a little more about hormones is "Hormones, Health, and Happiness" by Dr. Steven F. Hotze. This is a general overall book and does not necessarily address pregnancy. His website is http://www.hotzehwc.com/The doctor that has helped my daughter also has a website. It is www.wycoffwellness.com As always, there are a lot of reasons for hair loss and there are a lot of remedies and treatments. Pregnancy is a time to be extremely cautious.

Yes, the book is available on line. Also if you go into the website: www.wycoffwellness.com you will find that Dr. Wycoff is on the radio every Saturday morning. Sometimes he gives a copy of the book away if you call the radio station while he is on and join in the discussion. His show is on every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (United States East Coast Time). You will have to go through his website in order get the radio information if you are not in the mid-Michigan area but I believe you can also go through his website to get a phone number to call when he is on and listen to him from there. Dr. Wycoff was Chief of Staff of a large hospital and decided to open a wellness clinic that deals with medicine from a different approach. You also can try emailing him with your questions. He is a very kind knowledgeable man who treats a person with high respect when answering questions. My daughter started going to his office last spring and her hair is growing back fully. There is also a good natural shampoo that is all herb based that may help, but I would not recommend it for anyone who is pregnant or nursing as I do not know how the herbs can affect those conditions.

Hi parvezjs :) My sister lost quite a bit of hair during her pregnancy, although it is said that it's more common to lose hair following delivery of the baby. In any case, any time a woman's estrogen levels are changed, it can have an effect on the hair (such as stopping birth control pills or other hormonal imbalances). There are some very practical things your wife can do in terms of her diet, vitamins, etc. I found a webpage that you might be interested to read because it offers some suggestions: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/hairloss.html Oh, and your wife could also mention the hair loss to her doctor at her next visit - he or she might have some recommendations too! :) Best wishes to both of you!

It can be normal with pregnancy. Does she take her pre-natall vitamins? If not, she may want to, to help her body maintain the vitamins it needs. The baby will take what it needs from the mother, the mother needs to maintain for her health too.

Take Vitamin B Complex daily (100 or 200% recommended daily allowance) and ensure it has biotin in it.
