Last Wed. my friend called and asked if I wanted to do lunch with her...we were also going to do a little shopping. She told me she had to go to Walmart and return something. She had bought several things on clearance and when she got home some red and pink tissue paper that was in with the Valentines clearanc was full price. Well we started by going to JoAnn's fabrics. Once again the Valentines clearance things were supposed to be 70% off...there was some puff paint in with the clearance things.....we get to the counter and the puff paint was not on sale!! Yesterday we went to Walmart because she found these cool scrapbooks in a cart back by the fabric. And they were just what I was looking for...so we ran out and I picked up three....two rang up at the sale price...one that was a different color was twice as much! I told them to keep it....so it seems they are mixing non sale items in with the sale items....so keep an eye on what you are buying and the price they ring up at!

I always watch the price as it is rung up. Can't afford not to these days!
Alot of stores like Target and Kohls and such, have those scanners throughout the store and I always use that ot scan my stuff before I go to the register. Half the time there is no price and the other half of the time...just cause it is on that shelf, doesn't mean it is at that price. So I just check before I go to the reg. cause once there, the clerks get mad if you stop them for a price discrepency. And the people behind you do to. NOt that I really care what either of them think, this is my hard earned money- I will spend it as I see fit, but for the sake of myself getting through the check out faster.. I just check the prices myself.
And should something slip through...if I don't want to pay that price, I just tell them to take it back/off. IF the store can't price things properly (thanks to this scan thing instead of the good old fashioned price tag!) then they can just take the lumps as they come. I have always hated this scan thing since it came out!

I had them take the expensive one off....I wasn't mad but very confused as to why it said clearance then I was charged almost twice the price!! Just because it was a different color? It's hard in our walmart store to find a scanner! The only one we found didn't work! Today she went out again and returned the expensive one she bought on Friday and it was ten dollars on friday night....thirteen on Sat...and today they aren't even on the shelf!! Go figure! Mass confusion!

Yeah, Walmart is the worst on that... I have asked clerks that were scanning things to scan something for me. Heck, Let them be mad...I want to know the price. It just seemst that they are trying to make you pay a higher price. Bait and Switch is being revisited!!!

I wonder if it was the store doing it or another customer. I have seen things like that before too. It is a good thing you caught it at the register this last time and did not have to deal with returning it. Returning things can be such a mess sometimes and some stores will not accept returns of clearance items.

Hey jill! I don't know if they do that on purpose or it is
just an accident! But, you are right that you always have to
watch! If something is just a bit different like you said,
something is a different color then it can be a different price!
It is either a trick or the person putting up the display just
doesn't know! So it is better to be safe and just watch everything
that they ring up! Thanks for the tip!

When that happens to me, and I actually catch it at the register, I let them know about it, and normally, I get the item at the sale price. If I am in a hurry, I just tell them to keep it. Normally, if it is in the sale bin, it is supposed to be the sale price, but they fail to put the sale price in the computer.
I was at Walmart the other day looking at those plastic dresser things for my kids' rooms. I didn't end up getting them bcause they had three different prices on the same shelf. All the itemd on the shelf were exactly the same thing. I brought it to the attention of an employee and she just shrugged her shoulders about it. I probably could have gotten them at the cheapest price, bt I didn't have enought time on my hands to go through all the hassle.
Yes, I agree that we all need to pay special attention when we are shopping, as well as when we are at the register and things are bein rung up.

I always try to watch each item as it's being rung up and catch the mistake right then and there rather than having to deal with it later from the receipt.
The system is the problem. There is the normal price on the shelves, then there is the sale price either on the shelf or on stickers on individual items, and then of course there is what is in the computer.
When you get to the register and the item is scanned then what's in the computer is what it is going to ring up regardless of any sale. There are too many items, and too many sales for cashiers to keep up with every one of them and catch the registers mistakes so it's up to us to catch them.
I'm not saying that stores don't accurately update their computers on purpose but it is an ongoing all the time mistake that usually seems to work in the stores favor. You're enticed to buy something on sale, and if you don't notice the mistake, you've still bought it and they have more of your money, so there really isn't a lot of incentive to be aggresive about stopping or fixing the errors.

It sounds like you were on the look-out so that you didn't pay more than you should have for the scrapbook. I sure hope the stores aren't purposely placing non-sale merchandise with the sale merchandise. Although I must admit, that's a pretty sneaky way to sell items they might not otherwise sell. I'll definitely keep my eyes open and pay more attention when they are ringing up my purchases.

You always have to look and watch them...stuff like that is always happening even when it's stuff not on clearance. I have gone to buy a couple of things in the past and had them ring up more then what was listed for them. sometimes they fixed it and give me it for the sale price and other times it was a matter or it being marked wrong... so you always have to keep an eye on things while your shopping.

I made them give me the sale price as that is what they had adverised. I got laid-off for a day here a day there. So I can't get any help yet. Still have a job I hope. So yes watch the so called sales. Your friend onlydia. I know I have not been on in awhile. I just didn't have it in me. Take care

yes i understand very well about walmart they are good for that sort of thing and the price scanners that they used to have throughout the store dont work either i always want to check the price of an item because they cant seem to put anything where it is supposed to be and what happened to putting the prices on the merchandise. i rembemer that when i was a child and now i get so angry.

I always check my sales receipt from Wal-Mart. They are terrible about doing this. Sometims i think it is peopl just mixing things up but then I bought a clearanced handbag the other day that had the tag right on it that it was $6 and it rang up for $14.99. I got it for clearance price after calling it to the cashiers attention but it makes me angry to know that people don't pay attention sometimes and get ripped off! I must say Wal-Mart is th worst for this.

Thanks for this tip. I purchased my few US $ at a price of $88.48 in my currency for one US dollar so I have to spend them sparingly next week.

I too have run into this. Especially at Walmart! I'm not sure if the stockers are not paying attention to what they're doing, don't know what they're doing, or just don't care. I try and pay attention at the checkout counter when they are ringing up items. If by chance I don't catch it at the checkout I double check my receipt when I get home. I check off each item as I unpack it. I check for price, damage to the item that I didn't catch in the store etc. I always make sure I try on non returnable items such as swim suits in the store. After spending $40 on a swim suit one summer and finding out it was too big when I got it home I always make a point of trying them on! With the economy the way it is now I think it's more important than ever to watch every penny coming in and out. I've been laid off so many times over the last few years it's not funny. I even moved to a different state because the job market was better only to be laid off once again right before Christmas! (Why do they always have to lay a person off right before a big holiday and ruin it?) I also do the same in grocery stores where I'm using coupons etc. I want to make sure I get credit for those coupons I so carefully clip and save!

Thanks for the warning. I am surprised the bigger companies like Walmart would do this sort of thing. I can get lost in their craft section for a very long time. Like to see what's new. I will pay close attention next time I buy yarn or plastic canvas at Walmart. I'm not much of a shopper so my shopping days are very limited.
