Ordinary or Air Conditioned bus?...

For those of us who do not own a vehicle for travelling... we use the bus as our mode of transportation when going to the city or nearby and far off provinces... and more often than not... some bus travel can last between 2 hours to 24 hours... so there are travellers who prefer to ride the air conditioned bus just to escape the heat, dust, and whatever unpleasant smell the journey will bring... but others... like me prefer the ordinary bus... mainly because the smell inside air conditioned bus make me dizzy and a long ride will eventually make me want to puke... Now... we all know that the fare difference between the two is quite large... like the Pampanga-Manila Route ordinary bus only cost like 56 php (around $1.25)... while the air conditioned counterpart cost 126 php (around $2.75)... So what kind of bus do you ride... are you the budget and dizzy conscious type who prefer the ordinary buy... or the comfort conscious who would rather spend a lot and ride the air conditioned bus...

i'm not the picky type when it comes to buses. i ride the first bus that comes my way that would take me to my destination. traffic is bad here in manila so an air conditioned bus is preferred over an ordinary one. however, if i travel at night and there is no traffic at all, i take an ordinary bus. also, i'm sure you noticed that ordinary buses travel at the speed of light, zooming and zipping across the road to reach your destination faster!!! lol! as for provincial trips, i prefer air conditioned buses especially when traveling during the day. the heat and dust can be too much to bear. when i go to baguio, i always take an air conditioned bus and i travel at night so i can catch some sleep. you might want to try that when you travel. about getting dizzy, you might want to pop a pill or two of anti-vertigo pills, it may help you out with your dizziness. hope this helps. happy traveling!!! cheers!!!

Just travelled at 2 in the morning to accompany my husband to the airport... and we took the airconditioned bus... it was a pleasant ride because it was not hot... and less pollution... other than that... no traffic too... i wish that is always the case... i hate taking medicine... so an anti-vertigo pill is a no no for me... Thanks for the response...

Well if I would travel to my province I would prefer airconditioned buses. I have to travel 8 hours to rech my destination so it is just imperative that I have to make my trip as comfortable as possible. Being in a hot and humid place ordinary buses is just not a comfortable choice to make. Even here in the metropolis unless the availability of Aircon buses is scarce would I decide to ride ordinary buses around the city. Going around the city would in this kind of climate is just not practical.

Well, if only i don't get dizzy... i would also prefer to ride air conditioned buses... but since i do get dizzy... i don't want to feel like i want to puke the whole day... so i would rather just take the heat and humidity... Thanks for the response...

i will take the air conditioned bus, i will pay extra for less stress, i must admit that both can still be stressful... what will all the traffic and pollution and noise if you work in manila area and you will have to travel for at least an hour, going to work, i suggest take the air conditioned one, the air along edsa shall take away all the effects of your shampoo, colognes and what have you's to stay smelling nice... if you are on a budget, try the ordinary bus going home, if you are ready for the stress that will surely build up during rush hour...

well..we don't exactly have a choice-the buses around here neither the heat or the air conditioning work.the few that do,the driver has the cold up so high you just want to get off the bus.i would say i prefer the non chilled for that reason. i'd rather be a little warm than freezing.

I guess it never gets really hot where you live... in my case... if only i don't get dizzy inside air conditioned buses... i would surely prefer them rather than the ordinary type... the heat and humidity in my country can be unbearable at times... Thanks for the response...

Hi, friend. Generally, I prefer taking the ordinary bus when going to the province specially if I'm taking the trip alone. I must admit that I'm a budget-conscious individual. But often, when I'm with my spouse and our daughter, we would take the airconditioned bus because I'd want to avoid pollution. But on my short regular trips going to the office during weekdays, I have no option on whether to take ordinary or airconditioned mode of transportation simply because I have to take an fx taxi. This is the only public transport which goes directly through the workplace or the street where our office is located. It surely takes much of my allowance but I have no other choice. On some occasions though, I would get up early in the morning and take a jeepney ride going to the office. This does not go straight to my workplace and I have to ride off in SSS-Pasig. From there, I would walk the rest of the way not only to save money but also as a form of physical exercise. 'Til next discussion, friend. Regards.

Oh my... taking the taxi to and from work can take a lot from your budget... the company you work for should give you transportation allowance or service to fetch the employees everyday... that is the case here in my area... there is usually a bus or jeep that fetch company employees... Thanks for the response...

Like you, I ride the ordinary bus mainly because I cant afford the a/c types. Also, for short distances within the city, the ordinary buses are OK for us, we are used to them by now. Back in the 70’s and 80’s my city Kolkata had no a/c bus…all we had were the state run and private buses which were hot and congested and overcrowded and very fickle in their frequency. However, we have grown up using them and I believe its better to be tough and be prepared for everything in life. Now, we are have many a/c buses which are fast and sleek and very comfortable but very expensive too. These are used mainly by the executives of MNCs who are richly paid by their companies. For me, the old crowded bus is OK. Even in long distance journeys, I am used to the normal bus.

Here in my country... i have seen businessmen ride ordinary buses... especially when they have no choice because of the rush hour... well, we all need to sacrifice something just to get to where we need to go... Thanks for the response...

It depends on the situation for me. When I was still going to school, I'd prefer to ride on an air conditioned bus than an ordinary one since, as you have mentioned, I wouldn't like to experience the heat of travel. If I did ride an ordinary bus going to school, I might as well would like to take another bath. Going home from school, I really prefer to go use an ordinary bus since, by the time I get home, I could take a bath and more often than not, when I ride ordinary buses, my travel is more faster.. (^_^ )

I really don't understand why... but even with very far destinations... we only have the jeepney... and buses are concentrated to travelling through the NLEX only... so the bus is only for travelling from the province to the city... but within the province...

I too used to get dizzy during bus rides but, most often on air conditioned ones than the ordinary ones.. Tricycles and jeepneys? Well, wouldn't that mean that the destinations that you have to go aren't that far if tricycles and jeeps are the only things available?

Hi there aseretdd! I rarely take the bus whether traveling within a certain area or to and from nearby or far provinces. I do not feel comfortable. But yeah, there were times when I do not have any choice and so I would take the bus. Like there were instances I travelled abroad and the most practical means of going around town is a bus. Of course, I would take the air-conditioned buses. I don't think I could survive travelling within Metro Manila in an ordinary bus. I think you know what I mean.

I know what you mean about Metro Manila... i go there twice a week... and to avoid all the traffic and smog... i take the MRT from North Avenue to Ayala... that lessens the stress of traveling to that city... Thanks for the response...

I prepare to ride aircon bus if it is a long travel. I experience a long travel 4 years ago, traveling from Davao City to Manila riding Philtranco bus. Well, it's comfortable if you ride through aircaon bus to keep away from too much heat and unwanted odor from the passengers. I felt relax when i used to ride aircon bus than an ordinary bus. I am pron to sweat that is why aircon bus is best for me. If no other means of transportation, of course i don't have choice except riding ordinary bus.

Actually, I would take any bus that is available. But if given a choice: If I am alone, I would prefer the ordinary bus. It's cheaper and I don't care about too much comfort. But if I am with someone especially my girlfriend, I would prefer the aircon bus because I want her to feel comfortable.

Hello aseretdd! I am not really choosy whether what bus I will ride to. What important to me is that I can go to the destination I want to go. I agree with you that there's a really big difference between the air conditioned and non - air bus aside from the spelling..lol But kidding aside, if we are really going to be practical I would say to non - air. It's still the same actually. If you don't want to be dusted, close the window..hehehehe..

Yes, the best thing to do inside an ordinary bus is to just close the window... that is something we can never do in an airconditioned bus... just in case we need to breath real air... Thanks for the response...

If in Metro Manila, I prefer riding air-conditioned buses than ordinary ones specially during day time. But if I am rushing and at night time, I would take ride ordinary buses. Yes guys, the ordinary travels faster than their air-conditioned counter parts. As for long distance or provincial travels, I try to avoid ordinary buses as much as possible. They stop every time they thought there's a passenger and they stay long on a town proper, junctions, or any place waiting for more to be jam-packed inside the vehicle. On provincial routes, air-conditioned buses travels faster because they have a specific travel time from one station to another. It's true it is much expensive to travel by air-conditioned than ordinary buses but it's worth it if you are traveling outside Metro Manila.

Good thing vehicles are not allowed to stop at the NLEX... so drivers of ordinary busses have no choice but to just drive to the destination... but i don't understand why the tend to stay long on junction stops... that can be very annoying for passengers... Thanks for the response...

Well, one "conductor" told me that they are just trying to maximize their take-home pay for each trip. That is mostly the case if a bus company compensates its workers solely by commission. Oops... thanks for the BR.

During the time i stayed here, well most buses they have were all ordinary. I really wanted to go into an air con bus since it is dusty here and health wise, i would really prefer to go for AC buses. Regarding a long trip or travel, i still prefer to get an AC it is much convenient, and comfortable for me than taking the ordinary bus. Sometimes, me and hubby prefer to go to a sleeper type of bus, this is also AC bus where in you can sleep since they have beds instead of seats for passengers. But the problem is we get so nausea. The price of fare of an AC bus really expensive than an ordinary bus. But of course, there is an advantage taking an AC from an ordinary bus.

Hello aseretdd, Oh, it has been a long time since the last time I took a bus. It depends on the weather and the crowd actually. If it is too hot or too crowded, I prefer to take an air conditioned bus. If it is not, I don't mind to take the non air conditioned ones - whichever comes first. The most important is that, I can reach home faster. If it is a long journey, I prefer to take the air conditioned bus too.

I get the air conditioned bus all the time. The only time I rode an air conditioned bus from the province to Manila was when I was in college and all the buses that passed by were full. I had to get to school because I was running late on schedule so I jumped into an ordinary bus - I got a headache because of the air from the window and we can't really put the windows down because then it'd be steaming hot inside and we'd all boil. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

In my city, the higher fared bus are for the air conditioned and besides in better conditions. In extreme weather conditions in winter and in summer, I prefer the air conditioned buses. In spring and authumn, open air is much better, as air conditioning sacrifising the fresh air, when providing heating or cooling. And the price difference is another consideration, though relatively minute.

personally, i prefer the air conditioned buses if ever i would go around the metro. They are much more comfortable and the fare difference from the regular buses are'nt that dramatic.surely a few pesos wouldn't hurt if you would arrive at your destination not to haggard but fresh.

For some Filipinos who earn the minimum wage... the fare difference is already a big deal... so even if they want to use the airconditioned bus... they would still use the ordinary one just so they can save a few pesos... I'm not the type of person who travel far to ride on a bus, but for me I prefer air-conditioned bus if I'm traveling more than 50 kilometers, maybe town to another town. But if you're a student who have a class on weekdays then I think all of us will prefer to ride in an ordinary bus for a common reason, to save money.

I fully understand why... since an airconditioned bus is far more expensive than the ordinary one... and students usually have a tight budget... but for sure when you are already working and earning your own money... you will be able to ride the airconditioned bus anytime you want... Thanks for the response...
