Are you accident prone in the kitchen?

I'm a very accident prone person in the kitchen.
You might say I'm a kitchen clutz.
For several years, I had to ban myself from using
knives or sharp objects in the kitchen cause I was
always cutting myself by accident. A little nick here.
A little chip there. I was losing skin right and left.
And, then I went through a phase where I burned
my hand on the toaster by accident almost daily.
So, I had to stop using my toaster oven.
(Same thing happened with my iron, but that's another story.
Needless to say, I rarely iron anymore.)
I've had three or four really bad slip and fall
accidents in the kitchen, especially when my refrigerator
defrosts water onto the floor.
About three years ago, I hit a water puddle on my kitchen floor
and fell sideways onto my arm. It hurt so bad that I thought I'd broken
the arm for awhile.
Last week, I was cutting onions and squirted onion juice into my eye!
I think someone is sending me signs that it's time to give up cooking!
Are you clumsy in the kitchen?

There are times I have been in a hurry. So I have been less than careful in the kitchen. I even stabbed a baked potato once. Right into my hand. Once forgot the oven mitt and burned my fingers reaching for the cookie sheet! That was a real brain FART

I am extremely clumsy just in general. Which makes me being in the kitchen pretty dangerous. I hurt myself all the time but only once bad enough to go to the ER! lol. I had 4 stiches in my palm right under my pointer. Knife went almost through, that was aout a year ago. Damaged my nerves. My pointer finger will never fully heal.
About 3 months after that incident I was frying chicken in the skillet and the chicken slipped out of the tongs when I was flipping it, splashing hot oil all over both my legs, face, and arm. I was in a heap of pain. Took about 2 weeks for all the burns to go away but wasn't bad enough for medical attention.
I constantly burn my hand on the oven or some other silly thing. My boyfriend honestly didn't let me use knifes for almost 2 months after the stiches and forbid me to cook for 3 days because he's terrified im gonna get seriously injured! LOL

Hmmmm... it sounds like you're making excuses not to have to cook. I'm doing a lot of these things... not daily, but occasionally now, but I don't avoid the kitchen. I rather learn from the lesson not to do it again!!! lol. I've only ever slipped once in a kitchen and I bashed my head on a door handle, not to mention hurting my butt, leg, back and elbow, so now, I go barefoot into the kitchen, which seems to help some.
I sympathise with you, but these are day-to-day accidents which normally can't be avoided a first time, but once bitten, twice shy, I say! lol. Brightest Blessings my friend.

Oh..You have real bad luck in your kitchen huh...I am not clumsy in the kitchen..I am scared of burning so I use extra precautions and I make myself aware of what I am doing. I try my best to be alert and careful in what I do. There are times though that things happen ..accidents..and we just can't help it. You just have to be extra careful as I see it. Place a mat in front of the refrigerator when you defrost so it will suck most of the water in. Make sure you have safety gadgets in your kitchen. Be sure to use pot holders when handling hot stuffs. Be alert when handling sharp objects and be alert when you're in the kitchen. Good luck and be always safe

Not me! I am always very careful while in the kitchen, especially if I am cooking. And I am more likely to spot the water on the floor and get it cleaned up before someone else slips
Yeppers, sounds like Someone is trying to tell you that the kitchen is not the place for you!

I used to be, but after decades I am ok with routines in the kitchen. The skills are accumulated, safety always kept in mind with key focus. Knife, fire and oil are things critical to injury. Order and tidiness could be improved if you have conscious sense of timely sorting and cleaning.
One thing I would remind is with the cutting board and cleaning cloths, they must be washed with detergents every day to get rid of germs.

I am not a klutz in the kitchen, or in any other room...although I don't have any balance, and would not want to try and carry a plate or a full glass too far....I just stay out of the kitchen, because I really don't like cooking. My husband, on the other hand (a bit of a klutz in every other room except the kitchen) loves to cook, so he takes care of all the food preparation in our home.

no,surprisingly, except for a couple of oven burns.
but my mom's real bad.she's always dropping things and i finally had to make her use plastic dishware before she cut herself.i was always finding pieces of glass or porcelain on the floor (or rather,my foot found it),and she wouldn't admit to breaking it.

Wow, beautyqueen, it's a wonder you even allow yourself in the kitchen anymore. Thankfully, I am not a kitchen clutz. I do have the occasional finger slice here and there but not often enough to call it a problem. It is probably more of a function of me being a simple, just get it done kind of cook. My sister is a gourmet cook and if I used some of the machines, gadgets and fancy knives that she uses, who knows how many fingers I would have remaining.

I am so sorry to hear you cannot even make toast without burning yourself. Be careful!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not a kitchen accident prone. I love to cook and over the years that I have been cooking, I learned the techniques on how to hold the knives properly, how to fry and other safety cooking precautions.

I've burned myself once or twice, I can't remember ever cutting myself with a knife... although I did slice my finger pretty bad on the sink drain once! I've never slipped in the kitchen, so no, I don't think I'm accident prone, not at all.

Once I was slicing an onion
and my daughter came up to ask a question.
I looked over at her and my hand didn't stop slicing.
The knife cut right into my thumb.
I still have a scar.
Distractions are my biggest enemy in the kitchen.
That's why I ban everyone from the kitchen while
I'm cooking.
Hubby is always happy with that decision.
He gets to watch TV while I cook.
I would prefer it that way.
I'm a control freak when it comes to food.
I like food prepared my way or no way at all.

I'm fine with distractions, but in this house, you know... it sort of comes with the territory. I'm good at tuning out the children, or listening while my attention is on something else.

I wouldn't say that I'm exactly accident prone in the kitchen. Yes, I've gotten burned a time or two (who hasn't?) and I break a cup or bowl now and then, but I have to say that I haven't had any major mishaps or injuries over the years. Maybe it's because I spend as little time as possible in the kitchen!

Years ago I cut my hand badly on a knife I'd put in the dishwasher, blade up so that it would get clean. I learned my lesson from that. The one lesson I can't seem to learn, however, is to keep my arm off the edge of electric skillets. I still do that once in awhile. One time I had three separate scars going up my arm from the fry pan. Otherwise, no, I'm not too klutzy. You sound like you need to be careful!

I'm not that accident prone in the kitchen. I'm not sure if it's because I just don't cook all that often, at least often enough that it would make me more likely to hurt myself or what. However, there have been instances where I have cut myself in the kitchen or have burned myself. However, it doesn't happen all that often. It's rare but it does occur.

Oh wow! I tend to burn myself. I can be taking something out of the oven and I will burn my wrist or the top of my hand. I also have a tendency to do a number on myself when it comes to the toaster oven. I worked fast food when I was in high school and still have a few burn scars from that. Oh, and about 7 or 8 years ago I was taking some food out of the microwave to drain the water off of it and I scalded my right hand.
So yes, I am accident prone in the kitchen. lol

Once about 11 years ago when I was working at TGIFridays i cut my thumbnail off while chopping some lettuce. It hurt so bad I passed out. I haven't cut myself with a kitchen knife since. I burned myself very badly a couple of times once at TGIFridays with some hot butter and once at a place called Pig Heavan with lamb fat. The lamb fat hurt worse but the butter left a much bigger blister. I still have scars from both burns. Do you watch much late night TV? there are lots of kitchen gadgets yo can buy that eliminate the need to use a knife. You can also try pampered chef. I've never hurt myself cooking at home. Probably because I'm under less pressure.
