It Can't Hurt You If You Don't Believe...

A while back I watched a movie called Skeleton Key and there was a particular part in it that has been on my mind. In the movie the two girls are talking about Hoodoo (similar in some ways to Voodoo) and the one girl tells the other “It can’t hurt you if you don’t believe”.
It’s gotten me to think about other aspects of ppl’s lives. Ppl talk about evil and the devil and how it can influence your life if you let it…but wouldn’t the same thing apply…if you don’t believe in the evil or the devil then wouldn’t it take the power out of them? I’m not saying denying there is a devil but denying that he could influence your life in any way. If you refuse to give them any power to influence your life then they would become nothing.
I’m not sure if that makes sense or not…after all I’m running about 4 hours short of sleep this morning and am longing to head back to bed…but it does kind of make sense to me.
What are your thoughts?

Yes, a positive outlook does wonders. It is much harder for something to infiltrate your circle if you are not asking them in. Just like garlic at the door to diswade vampires.

Sorry but I can't answer this one on account my thoughts have already gone to bed without me. I'm running over 24 hrs. short of sleep this morning. Soon as I came home from work, my brain went to bed while my body came here.

There are certain things like Voodoo that won't work if you don't believe in them but then you have to take into account that the person performing the act has such an intense hatred of you that their negative energy really could impact you. But for the most part, it can't hurt you if you don't believe in it.
Evil, on the other hand, is what the devil is and evil is definitely real. It can affect you whether you believe in it or not so the way to combat it is to deny it entry into your life. This is harder than it seems, darn near impossible! Even watching the evening news and getting word of the misery spread by evil affects your positive outlook. You just have to do your best to spread goodness and combat the evil. I kinda of got off the original point, but this is how I think.

twoey, I've heard several preacher say the same thing. It is possible to resist evil just by refusing to embrace it!!! However, the devil is a sneaky demon who will sneak in unless you are vigil in your efforts!!! So, yes, your thinking makes sense to me!!!

yes I agree if you don't believe that stuff it won't hurt you, it is just a bunch of magic, and crap like that, can only scare you if you let it.

You have hit on something that I have heard several ministers say. When we allow the enemy or devil to enter our minds and make us jealous, anxious, worried, etc we are letting him win. By keeping our mind set that God is in charge and tells us not to listen to our own fears we are defeating the enemy. He can not get into our mindset if we don't let it happen. I guess it comes down to beliefs, teaching and training.

as someone that practices magic, in my experience, the belief isn't necessary for the desired effect.
people can be affected without any real effort if you make them think you've done something (could be good, could be bad) just from the power of their own thinking, but you can also affect people without them knowing you're doing it, whether they believe or not.

the power of suggestion!
they dont always have to believe in what you said you did they just have to believe that you did it LOL

not if they don't know you've done it.
one recent working I did for a friend who runs a business. she had a run of good things happen after this, and recognised my energy attached to these good things.
I hadn't told her I'd done it.
they don't have to believe in it.
they don't even have to know you've done it.
yes, you can use the power of suggestion, and get good results just by convincing someone you're doing something, even if you're not.
sometimes with the real thing, knowing it's happening can be enough to dissipate it. so in the case of certain acts by less experienced people, you knowing makes it less effective, not more.

Well, yes If you dont believe in the devil. then when bad things happen to you. you dont really just start to think its the devil because the devil isnt anything to you..
therefore youve not paid him much mind to even think for once it was the devil...your mond automatically blames somthing else.

Well, pity taxes don't disappear if we don't believe in them! Seriously, my Mum is very superstitious, and I've always wondered if we didn't know the superstitions in the first place and did the 'thing' - for example, walking under ladders - would the bad luck happen anyway? Many people believe our mind is so strong we can actually heal our bodies if we believe enough - and bring good things to us. I'm not sure - but I do know a positive attitude is certainly a good thing to have, and even if we can't stop bad things happening, we can certainly have control over the way we handle them when they DO happen.

I love this movie! And yes, I do believe that the human mind is powerful enough to dictate what happens to us. I've always thought that things happen in our life, but it's how we preceive them to happen is the difference. If she think it comes from an outside source or power then yes, we will make ourselves feel it's weight.

I both agree and disagree with that
I agree because you can choose not to let some things affect you in negative ways
but there are other things that will have a negative effect on you no matter how hard you try to not let them
its what you do after they effect you that defines who you are and what you are made of
Sorry if that didnt make much sense i seem to be running on the same lack of sleep as you LOL

I think that life is what you make out of it. Your beliefs can shape your way of thinking. I agree with you that sometimes, if you do not believe in something, that something cannot really hurt you.

Hi twoey68! I guess, I share a different belief. Whether I will deny evil or devil power over me, I know he will always find ways to deceive me. He is far more wiser than me and he has lived more than a thousand years making him the master of deception and schemes. That is why, whether I will deny his influence on me or refuse his way, I need God to fight the evil battle with me for I can never do it alone. With God's Grace and Protection, he can not touch me. Just my personal thoughts dear friend!
Take care and blessings to you dear!

I expressed my feelings about this kind of thing when someone asked me my thoughts about Friday the 13th and I explained that where I come from, Italy 13 is actually a lucky number so it is a matter of perception. If you believe that 13 is unlucky it probably will be and vice versa.
I don't think we should underestimate the power of the mind.
I am far out enough to believe that if enough people channelled enough love, evil would not stand a chance.

Having researched Satanism and the occult I'd like to give you something to think about:
You think if you don't believe it can't hurt you right? Well don't be so sure.
Magick just like Voodoo has two elements 1. the energy the giver of the spell puts into the ritual(Channeling it towards you) and the receiver.
Now apply a little psychlogy:
Lets say I decide to place a curse on you. I perform the necessary ritual, and then walk up to stating that I have cursed you. You will deny any belief in it, and will move on with your life, yet in your subconscious I have now planted a seed and with every little thing goibg wrong in your life you will think of my curse, and thus giving it power. This way it can add up to a tremendous power with devastating effects(I have seen this happen in real life).
On the other hand because you deny any belief you will not take any precautions against the energy unleashed on you by my curse thus making yourself even more vulnerable.
Now the one that does belief will take every precaution and thus have actualy less of a chance of getting hit by my curse.
If you can get it, try to get a copy of Anton Szandor Lavey's Satanic Bible. It explains matters like this in great detail(Better then I ever could).
It's interesting reading.

A few years ago ,I read something which said"Do not take some tricks or insults seriously.Just put it this way.If you don't accept a gift,it still belongs to the person who wants to give it to you."Likewise, when you don't accpt or believe devil things like Voodoo,it has nothing to do with you.So you thought sounds right to me too.
