What do you think about mandatory premise ID's for your farms?

Here in Wisconsin the Department of Agriculture requires livestock farms to be registered with a premises ID, with the location of the farm, what kind of animals are owned (not how many) and the owners name. Many people agree this is a good idea, however there are many people up in arms about it. The reasoning behind this "ID" is that if an infectious disease breaks out concerning a certain breed of animal they can quickly identify the surrounding farms with those animals so the disease can be contained and eliminated. I think this is a good idea especially if a disease such as Avian Influenza, Pseudo Rabies, Brucellosis or Tuberclousis would turn up in an animal that had been sent to auction. It could be traced back to the original farm and the surrounding farms could be checked for it, which could save many animals and a massive breakout of the disease. Many people here feel it is just another way for the government to control them. What are your thoughts on this?

I'm with the folks who do NOT want this type of control. The government is destroying our rights. More slowly in the past, but now they are going to be ripping our God given rights away, as fast as they can. The latest method is "carbon tax" They have well over 100 new taxes related to this that will be in effect soon. Don't give away your rights and the rights of our children and grandchildren so easy. This animal ID also includes future micro chipping every farm animal. These will be able to be followed by satellite. Do you really want a government agency watching you close enough to know if you take a critter off your farm to a show? And being ticketed and fined if you don't fill out paperwork to report the transport of that animal...this is not good for anyone except to put lots more money into the contractor who will do the physical work. And it gives "big brother" another way to look into our homes.

I never have heard of this, myself, but I believe it would be a good idea, should any of these diseases develop in our area, which is Alabama.
