I tried Ubuntu on my laptop. I have a bad experience because I accidentally formatted my computer and after installing Ubuntu, I can't connect to the internet because no driver is found. So, I reformat my computer and change back to Windows XP. I think that Windows XP is still better. Ubuntu is good because of no virus and operate on low resource. The interface is good. The problem is hard to find driver for hardware. Have you tried Ubuntu? What is your idea about it?

Hi, I think that you get the wrong version of ubuntu installer. There are 64bit and 32bit versions available. So, it would work if you get the correct one for your computer.

Hi, have no idea what is Ubuntu? I am not using anything like that. I use firefox and my computer is Mac, so I have no idea if that Ubuntu you are talking about is compatible with MAC. There are some programs that are not compatible with firefox.

I loved Ubuntu, but had the same problem you did - I couldn't connect to the internet with it. Part of this was because I was using wireless internet, and it really hated my wireless card (the card had a Broadcom chipset). Ultimately, the lack of a wireless internet connection was unacceptable, and I had to switch to a different flavor of Linux. I switched over to PCLinuxOS, which worked very well for me until the untimely demise of that particular desktop PC (which was unrelated to PCLinux being installed on it). I didn't have any internet connection issues with that distribution of Linux, although I would have liked to keep Ubuntu because it worked a lot better with my Wacom tablet.

I think that we cannot connect to the internet might be due to no driver.

I hear its this amazing operating system, but I myself have not tried it. I would like to know some of the pros and cons on it also. Hopefully someone on here will have a bit more insight on the matter.

I also ever have a bad experience when trying to install PCLinuxOS on my PC, all of my data in my hd drive was lost... but that's all is purely my fault, I choose wrong artition to install PCLinuxOS, but I don't want to give up, several month i try and it works... 3 month after that bad day i success installing PCLinuxOS dual boot with WinXP on my PC... So when several month ago i tried to install Ubuntu 8.10, I don't have any problem, even it's easier to install Ubuntu because Ubuntu detect my hdd free space automatically and install them to the free space, so i have dual boot WinXP and Ubuntu... In my opinion, Ubuntu is a great distribution because it's interface is beautiful and have many useful applications...

Maybe the Ubuntu I get is the older version, that it why it has a lot of problems. I think I will not try it anymore.
