Is Facebook taking over your life?

February 23, 2009 9:23am CST
Facebook was started in 2004 by Marc Zuckerberg, a Harvard Graduate. 5 years later, there are over 50 000 000 users. Facebook has become an addiction for a lot of people, a new medical condition has even been made FAD ( Facebook addiction disorder) Facebook, has a huge influence on us now, but the question is: Is facebook taking over YOUR life? can you not stop going on it to check out random information ( for no apparent reason)?

I first joined facebook in 2007! At first yes, I used to spend many hours there, for commenting on and watching photos, joining groups and writing on walls! Also at first I used to add all those applications and quizzes and could get addicted to many of them!:p But at first, I had my very own circle of friends in facebook! I didn't like adding people that I didn't know as I didn't like people who don't know me to have access to my photos and everything...Ok, this is my personal point of view, I know that many people enjoy meeting other people on facebook..But, a little after that facebook in my network became so overcrowded and I had friend requests from people that I did know but our relations were not that close, but also I couldn't ignore the request! So I added everyone of them...and after that I lost my interest on facebook! And so did my friends! SO know, I still have it but I log in only if I see a request or a comment sent in my email...I cannot say that I am glad for not using facebook that much anymore, as I lost contacts with some people I used to talk more often, but I really don't feel like using facebook more than I already do anymore

I personally hate Facebook, It's a terrible waste of time. I do have account, and it's great for checking out pictures and what not, but other then that it's SOOOOO BORRINNGGG. I refuse to let it take over my life, but you make a good point. A lot of people are addicted to it, and some go on it JUST for the applications. I go on it because it is a great way to keep up with friends and family, but that's about it.

a new medical condition has even been made FAD ( Facebook addiction disorder) ROFLMFAO there is NO such medical condition! I have a Facebook account and love it...I ahve gotten in touch with dozens of friends from my long ago past that I would have otherwise not been able to find (or them me)...does it rule my life though? No not even close..

Sometimes I feel like that. Most of my friends on facebook live far away and there is no way I would know what they're doing unless I wanted to e-mail them every day which I can't because they and I all have lives. Facebook eliminates that issue because I can just check their status update. Since I joined a few months ago, I think the longest I ever haven't checked facebook is 3 days, but it's usually every day. Then again that's not so a-typical. There are lots of sites I visit every day, like here.

I do get on Facebook a lot, but mainly to keep in contact with friends and coworkers. I have a couple of applications that need me to check up on them every day, but I can change the level to easy and get away with not checking them for days. I say I am addicted, but I could live without it if I had to. Its just something I do for fun and to see whats going on with my friends when we don't have time to fill each other in on all of the details of our lives.
